It’s Time I Go, Elon.

Hey, I just deactivated my Twitter account of 12 years. You can too! Here’s how:

1. Open Twitter
2. Tap the navigation menu icon , then tap Settings and privacy.
2. Tap Your account, then tap Deactivate your account.
3. Don’t bother reading the account deactivation information, just tap Deactivate.
4. Enter your Twitter password when prompted and tap Deactivate.
5. Confirm that you want to proceed by tapping Yes, deactivate.

You can then remove the Twitter icon from your desktop, and go in peace.

Be social and share!

  1. I deactivated my Twit account 3 days ago and went over to Mastodon. It’s like Twitter but nicer and there are no ads. There are different servers that you can sign up for, it’s all free. If you decide to get on Mastodon, my advice is to sign up for different servers because sometimes they will have issues. Also, everyone who was on Twitter is migrating to Mastodon. Go check it out.

  2. Thanks.
    Thinking about doing the same.

  3. It’ll be interesting to see how Melon Husk monetizes a platform consisting of trolls and ads for assault rifles…

  4. Keep in mind that if you delete your account, your username will be available for anyone else to use. So someone could claim your username and keep posting as if they were you.

If you have used Twitter frequently in the past and have people that follow you, it would be better to just stop using the account but not delete it.

  5. And don’t be tempted to log back in for the next 30 days or it will be reactivated. You can, however, look at other people’s tweets if you see one linked, as long as you don’t respond in any way with likes or comments. It will be permanent after that.

trump invited back. It is unusual to see a rat rebaording a sinking ship.

  7. Don’t do it. Just idle your account.

As for TFG, I will be looking to see how long it takes for A) TFG to violate the EULA of Twitter, then B) for Twitter to shut off his account again. So he will be “treated the same as anyone else.”

The other thing to celebrate is this will pretty much drive a stake through the heard to Truth Social. There is no significant traffic there other than posts by and for Him. Devin Nunes will cry moar so is that bad?

For those interested in Mastadon, a good place to start is https://fedi.tips/ or go to the basic explanation at
    https://fedi.tips/mastodon-and-the-fediverse-beginners-start-here/

Be aware that it is a different model than twitter’s; it is a decentralized approach where you can sign up with a group you’re interested in, but it interoperates with other groups in a seamless fashion.

Also beware that right now Mastodon is getting hammered with many people fleeing twitter and signing up. Some Mastodon instances were not designed for scalability, but that is being ironed out rapdily.

You can sign up at https://joinmastodon.org/, and see a list of servers at https://joinmastodon.org/servers . It doesn’t really matter which you sign up with, you can access all of the fediverse from one.

As for the scaling of Mastodon: the number of users is up by 519% this month, and the number of servers has increased by 109%. It’s like some event has prompted a stampede. The sort of scene every 1950’s Western movie had to show at some point. In any case, don’t let my warning about scalability keep anyone from joining; it’s been manageable so far and should not be visible to ordinary users. I’m aware of it only because some ex-students asked me to look into it.

I’ve thought about creating a Mastodon instance (AKA server or provider) for the World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, but don’t want to add to our gracious hostess’s headaches. We could keep the membership of that server limited by requiring approval for joining. In any case, I’ll keep looking to see if there’s any benefit beyond what JJ has created here.

TFFG will feel right at home on the Musk rat’s ship which I hope in fact is sinking. A $44 billion folly and a money hole. Kind of like truth social.

  13. I never twitted, and now never will. I barely tolerate Messenger and Whatsapp even less. I prefer email but know precious few who will converse on it, and no one who will respond to physical letters.

    Oh yeah, I’m old. I don’t care.
