It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like … What the Hell!

December 08, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I live southwest of Houston.  It was 83 degrees here two days ago.

This morning:

This picture was taken through my living room window because I am not going out in that stuff. I don’t even know what it is. Looks cold to me.

By the way, we went into Houston last night to hear Joe Biden speak on his book tour.  If you get a chance to go when it comes to your city – do it. He’s funny, smart, self-aware, and tells a good story.

  1. Happy Holidays! And to a really, really successful New Year in TX.

  2. Well I can tell you what that stuff is not and that’s powdered sugar. We have yet to see a flake in So. Iowa.

  3. GO OUT! Snow has a smell, sounds are different. Yes, it’s cold if you roll around naked in it so wear shoes that have a bit of tread and let it snow. I live in the northeast for a reason.

  4. Ma’am, I live in New Jersey. We’re expecting our first snowfall tomorrow. That we haven’t gotten snow already is a little confusing, but not nearly so confusing as Houston getting snow first.

  5. SomedayGirl says:

My mom and I were there too, Susan. He said a couple of times he was referring to Obama as Barack rather than Mr. President because he wanted to be sure there was no confusion. Everyone around me was saying, “No one will ever mistake Donald Trump for Barack Obama.”

  6. Elizabeth2 says:

You’ve had more snow there this year than we have in Boston (though we’re supposed to get a few inches tomorrow). Mari is right. Go out and play in it.

  7. Jane & PKM says:

On the bright side apparently hell has just frozen over indicating there’s a better than 80% chance Texas will get rid of Teddie Crooze.

    7
  8. That’s the stuff that caused me to leave Colorado after many years. Tied a snow shovel to the roof of my car and headed south. When someone asked “What’s that?” I knew I had found a home.

  10. Larry from Colorado says:

Is that ash from the California fires?
    🙂

  11. Long will be remembered the struggle of those that survived “The Great Blizzard of ’17”. For those that didn’t look out the window till after 11:00 am, you missed it.

    11
  12. Hey Nor’easters,
We’re in for it tomorrow. And maybe Tuesday. Got tea, cocoa and stacked wood. Thanks be to heavens for retirement!
(And yeah it’s different, but not at all fun. Especially the shoveling and chilblains part.)

    12
  13. Is there an admission fee?

    13
  14. From one of your resident Minnesotans, we would call that Summer.

    14
  15. Coprolite says:

Here in the far north it rained yesterday and doing the same today. Normally is would be in the teens and maybe below zero. The roads are a mess with freezing rain. A good day to stay home and make a pot of soup.

  16. slipstream says:

And just think — you could be living in Ventura County, California, near the beautiful Pacific Ocean beaches, with nothing but sunshine, warm breezes, and an endless string of carefree days.

    16
  17. Here in the D.C. burbs we have been feeling kind of neglected. And that feeling just might continue. If the stuff starts before 7 AM we can look forward to it ending at 11 AM. And it will be minuscule in depth, whereas Salisbury, over in the Eastern Shore part of Maryland is predicted to give 5 to 8 inches. They have a university over there. They can and do get snow that we never see because they are so close to open water, just like Prince Edward Island or Nova Scotia in Canada. Do I sound wistful? Who wouldn’t! A world all of a sudden wearing white and looking all innocent and heavenly good. Its a change from hearing about Trent Franks asking his women staffers to bear his child by surrogacy!

  18. That Other Jean says:

It was in the high 60’s here in Central MD a couple of days ago. Tonight, we’re expecting 2 to 4 inches of that stuff you got, Susan. But there were trucks out pre-treating roads today. They’ll be salted tonight, and passable even by my VW beetle before noon tomorrow, assuming we get snow at all. The weather folks are wrong as often as they’re right. Of course, we might get a blizzard; then all bets are off.

    18
  19. We have had a few of those mornings, today included.
I like these mornings. Melts by 11am.
And you dont have to shovel.
    I hate shoveling snow.

    19
  20. Up here on the West Coast of NY we got our first half foot of that lovely stuff yesterday. It kept me from making it to my dental appointment. I was heartbroken.

    20
  21. Looks like my place, except, of course, I live in Eastern Washington state, so it’s supposed to. Sorry for the shock; can’t stand the stuff myself.

  22. two crows says:

I know from my time up north [Kansas City, MO] that snow is beautiful! If you don’t have to do something drastic like shovel. But if you can stand at the window with a cup of hot chocolate, it’s breathtaking. Even making a snow angel can be fun and uplifting — then come back in and grab that hot chocolate, stand by the window and admire your artwork.

I’m in Florida now and the folks who’ve been here for forever constantly regale us newbies about the blizzard of nineteen seventy something. They say it clogged traffic for over an hour. An inch deep they say it was — and took almost an hour to melt. Horrors!

Florida hasn’t had snow since. My kinda place to live — even if we DO have pRick Scott who will be term-limited out next year and who, I’m praying, we have better sense than to send to the Senate.

  23. Opinionated Hussy says:

ROFL….as I look out at 9″ of the stuff, and more falling (had to shovel a path to let the dog outside this morning for his early morning ablutions). Tractor’s down, so I’m unsure how I’ll get out when we get another 2″ tonight. Wonder if I can pack the driveway down enough with snowshoes?

Upside: no mosquitoes, fleas, or ticks in the summertime….

    Looks like a Netflix day!
