It Isn’t Carve in Stone. Oops.
Okay, so when you carve something in stone, maybe it’s good to have a proofreader.
For some unknown reason, the Ten Commandments were installed on the grounds of the Oklahoma State Capitol. Maybe they’ve been misbehaving again. I dunno.
What I do know is that they still can’t spell.
Sabbeth? Really?
Really, Oklahoma?
Thanks to MB for the heads up.
Don’t forget “maidseruant”.
1…and then the final neighbors that should be neighbor’s.
2Gosh, that education stuff isn’t very effective, so we should probably defund it a little more.
3I noticed they didn’t number the commandments. Considering their spelling, they probably didn’t want to take a chance on getting arithmetic involved in itemizing all of those many, that really long, list of commandments.
4There’s a bunch of people with the last name Sabbeth; I’m jealous, they get their own holy day and it’s even written in stone.
5I counted and it was correct – eleventy-seven.

Rick in post#4 on the lack of numbers….
“they probably didn’t want to take a chance on getting arithmetic involved in itemizing”
Come on – arithmetic is SCIENCE! can’t be havin’ none of that!
8I continue to be awed by the ignorance of people who are making graven images of a moral code, a tenet of which is “Thy shall NOT make . . . graven images.” The depth of the ignorance is only matched by . . . Well, nothing.
9The only reason people in Oklahoma learn how to read is so they’ll know where to sign on the lease for their trailer.
10OK, OK, I looked in and immediately thought of Mel Brooks–but some other of Juanita’s acolytes (!) beat me to the punch!
11At least they didn’t leave out some of the “nots.”
12Nope, no establishment of religion there, none at all. They established their idiocy, but they have to learn to spell if they want to establish religion.
13maidseruant? in the last one.
14“Maybe they’ve been misbehaving again.”
I dunno – it is where Tom Coburn is from……

You know what’s scary. They did have a proofreader.
16May as well point out, since some people think this belongs on state capitol grounds, that only three of those commandments are laws in this country: don’t kill, don’t steal, and don’t bear false witness against your neighbor (i.e. don’t lie to the judicial system). Find me a country or society that doesn’t have those laws. They are universal; nothing “Christian” or Judeo-Christian about them. The rest are not laws and our laws are not based on them.
17Moses came down the mountain with good news and bad news. “The good news is I talked Him down to just ten; the bad news is that one about adultery is still in there.”
