Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
I have to wonder if we are having an unusual spate of shootings or if it’s just that the media has now decided it’s a story worth covering.
Given the number of gun deaths in this country annually, I’m guessing it’s the latter.
1KHOU TV is reporting 3 shot: http://www.khou.com/news/Reports-of-shooting-at-Lone-Star-College-in-North-Harris-County-187912461.html
2That and the unprecedented number of firearms that have been purchased since Sandy Hook, to say nothing of the fear that Obama has been “coming for our guns” since 2009. The hysterical reaction to the possibility of new gun laws is sure to seed violence and accidents for the foreseeable future.
3Slightly more up-to-date report from KPRC: http://www.click2houston.com/news/Pct-4-Multiple-people-shot-at-Lone-Star-College/-/1735978/18233132/-/rsq5ey/-/index.html. Both are saying multiple shooters suspected. Number of injured not confirmed, but the tweet you show is higher than either of the news reports, which only mention people shot.
I doubt this has anything to do with gun laws or new gun ownership. This is just someone being “evil, mean, and bad, and nasty.”
I grew up in SE Houston and didn’t even know we had a community college up that way. The only one I was aware of was San Jacinto Junior College out 225.
4What a great opportunity for Governor Rick Perry, Congressman, Louie Gomert and State Representative Steve Toth to issue the following statement: “This incident is an obvious conspiracy by the gun-haters who deliberately put dangerous weapons into the hands of a mentally ill individual. We loyal NRA members believe that those who would take away our Second Amendment rights will stop at nothing to persecute the millions of patriotic Americans who believe that firearms ownership is vital to protect themselves and their families.”
5Ya’ll turn on channel 13. It’s at WW Thorne and Aldine Westfield in the Aldine area, not Conroe.
6Perry et al. don’t need any help coming up with conspiracy theories that blame those who favor gun control.
Y’all know about the New Mexico shooting, right? Angry teenage boy takes guns that are loose in the house, kills his mother, his younger brother (who was sleeping in bed with his mother, two younger sisters, and his father when the father came home early in the morning from work. Then planned to go to Wal-Mart and shoot Wal-Mart security and customers, but in the meantime called his girlfriend, told her the family had been killed in a car wreck, and she talked him into going to church. Father was a preacher. Large family with Biblical names. Lots of guns in the house, not secured; father taught the boy to shoot.

But hey, let’s blame violent video games. That’s what the police are thinking of–that, and the kid’s 3 years younger girlfriend.
7I hope all employees and customers of TWMDBS, their families and friends also, are all okay. I’ll keep a good thought for y’all and for the victims.
8And when somebody manages to get a really big caliber weapon into the state of the union message and opens fire, the NRA will blame that on the libs, right? I know what I said was beyond horrible but thats whats been happening ever since this psycho bunch took over the NRA.
9Yes, it is the new normal according to Tom Tomorrow.
“Barring some seismic realignment in this country, the gun control debate is all but settled–and your side (NRA) won. The occasional horrific civilian massacre is just the price the rest of us have to pay. Over and over again, apparently.”

This is the cartoon he published right after Gabby Giffords got shot in Tucson. It keeps coming back.
10Makes me gld I no longer work at a university.
11What I heard on the national news is two students decided to shoot it out, and the injured people were caught in the crossfire.
12So…the brilliant Texas lege’s want to allow conceled or even open carry in the classroom? What a bunch of idiots.
Well. isn’t this just ducky. The Lone Star College System offers a “Second Amendment Academy” at the North Harris campus where today’s shootings occurred.
http://www.lonestar.edu/second-amendment-academy.htm
I wonder if either of these two nimrods being detained attended the “Academy”, and, if so, whether they passed or failed the weapons training. Is this what passes for higher education in Texas these days?
13Yep, we’re all a lot safer when everyone’s packing. Let’s get a confirmation of that from the wounded janitor.
Maybe we should have duelling grounds, they way they used to, even though it was illegal then. Let the gun-toters just shoot up each other.
14Actually, one of the things I fnd unnerving about this “new normal” is the way the news media goes yelping after each new shiny disaster without finishing the 5 Ws from the current story, finds someone who is not authorized to give information, gets something inaccurate that they put out over the wire ASAP, starts cleaning up the mess with updates and retractions, and then goes yelping off after a new shiny disaster! It’s no wonder people never know what’s going on, most of them never get to the retractions and corrections!
15Last night the NBC News reporter on scene in Houston noted that this was the fifth school shooting this year — 5 in 22 days. What an awful stat. New normal?
16I haven’t heard anyone around Austin talking about the fact that the Texas Legislature made serious funding cuts in the mental health program for the state, last time around. I’d really love for Texas to not make us famous by shootings.
