I’m Not Guilty. I Am Absolutely Not Guilty. Wait. Wait. What Am I Charged With?

August 23, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

You’re gonna think this is from The Onion.

It ain’t.

It’s genuine certain powerful truth.  Rick Perry can’t remember what crimes he got his butt indicted for.

No, seriously.

rickperrypaytoplayPerry was a little unclear when explaining what felony charges were issued against him.”I’ve been indicted by that same body now for I think two counts, one of bribery, which I’m not a lawyer, so I don’t really understand the details here,” Perry said of the grand jury that indicted him.

A grand jury indicted Perry last week on two felony counts — abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public official — over a 2013 veto threat.

It’s not that complicated.

1. Abuse of official capacity

2. Coercion of a public official

3. Thank goodness, there’s nothing for him to forget here.

There’s no bribery charge.

But this might be a hint that we should look for one.  He probably did that, too.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

  1. Things are going to explode during the trial. He could end up with even more charges against him. I think he knows that and he’s just trying to 2step around it.

    1
  2. He can’t even keep his felony charges straight. And this is supposed to be a presidential candidate?
You’re right, J.J., you might as well add bribery as number 3 right now, since he’s gone and shot off his mouth again.
His lawyers must be tearing their hair out. Oh this is going to be such fun.

  3. RepubAnon says:

If Rick Perry can’t even understand the felony charges filed against him, he’s unfit for any public office requiring a basic understanding of anything more complex than working in a government cafeteria in a job where his only responsibility is to say “fries with that?”

Seriously – look at the issues a President would face: the Middle East, China’s expansionary policies in the South China Sea, Russia’s actions toward its neighbors, trade negotiations… if he’s too stupid to ask his lawyers to give him an explanation of the charges against him, and/or too obtuse to understand what they told him, how could he function as President? Outsource the hard stuff to Dick Cheney?

  4. What a himbo! Or mimbo, if you prefer.

  5. that’s why intelligent people say “I can’t discuss the ongoing…..yada yada”. can’t Texas find a smarter idiot!

    5
  6. Ralph Wiggam says:

I’m not a lawyer either, but if I had been indicted on 2 felony counts and faced up to 99 years in prison, I’d figure it out.

I believe it is customary at arraignments for the Judge to ask the accused if they understand the charges against them. That’s the part Perry skipped.

    6
  7. Sanborne Addison says:

My thought, too. He thought he got indicted for bribery because he did it.

The video should definitely become a Dem ad for the general. If the Republicans should be brilliant enough to give him their nod for the primary.

  9. Marion (formerly known as MM) says:

All of us here are smart enough to figure out and remember what 2 felony counts we’re indicted on should that happen.

Perry, not so much. The stupidity and arrogance are on full display. As usual.

  10. Marge Wood says:

This reminds me of once when I was mad at our son at age 9. He said, “Why are you mad at me?” I said “You KNOW why I’m mad at you.” He said, “Was it because I (—-)?” I said no. He asked a few other times, “Welll, was it because I (—–)?” He told me all sorts of stuff I hadn’t known about. We ended up laughing. But he wasn’t running for President.

    Perrian slip.

    Oops.

  12. e platypus onion says:

This idjit’s lawyer is prolly telling him to keep his pie hole shut and Perry insists on digging the hole deeper and deeper. His lawyers have an out. They have an incompetent client and can ask the judge to withdraw.

    12
  13. @LiS: With or without a garter belt? 😉

    13
  14. Good Heavens…. Is he going for a “defense…… due to mental defect or deficiency, ” or whatever? d The “whatever” would include “stupidity” but… I don’t think that’s a legal defense.

    14
  15. Marge Wood says:

How about this classic from all six year olds: “I didn’t do it and I won’t do it again.” Would that work?

    15
  16. e platypus onion says:

You got it,Marge Wood. Just ask Perry if he knows why he is being punished and see what all he confesses to.

    16
  17. Polite Kool Marxist says:

    1. bribery, OOPs 2. bribery, OOPs 3. no? OOPs

Prosecution needs to add on a bribery charge. Seems they have a confession on that count. If not a full confession, definitely intent on the two counts of the current indictment.

    17
  18. If Perry doesn’t understand what he did was not only wrong but also against the law, and he doesn’t know what charges have been filed against him and what they mean, maybe politics shouldn’t be his line of work. Because politicians seem to deal in laws fairly often, how could he avoid knowing about them this long?

    18
  19. The fact that Perry was indicted for abusing the powers of his office tells me that he’d behave the same way if he were ever POTUS. A little bit of power seems to go to his head. As POTUS, he’d have considerably more power than he has as governor, and I think if anyone told him he couldn’t do a particular thing, he wouldn’t listen, even if it came from a member of his WH Counsel.

  20. JAKvirginia says:

I learned this some time ago. It has served me well.

“If you listen to someone long enough, they will tell you who they are.”

Rick Perry just told us all about himself. Were you listening?

    20
  21. Corinne Sabo says:

Is he afraid a bribery charge is next? Which one?

    21
  22. e platypus onion says:

I believe bribery may have been one of the four original charges and the GJ returned indictments on only two.Perry is so arrogant he wopuld proudly wear a t-shirt that says I Am Stoopid.

    22
  23. I think if I was the special prosecutor I’d be asking my investigators what we might have missed on the bribery case. Cause according to Governor pRick, something was.

    23
  24. Angelo_Frank says:

I bet the Perry PAC is busy trying to figure out how to contaminate the jury pool for the upcoming trial. They will inundate the airwaves with ads so that the only qualified jurors would be found in Teralingua or Marathon.

    24
  25. Angelo_Frank says:

AUSTIN — An attorney for Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Friday that he will ask a judge to dismiss criminal charges alleging that the possible 2016 presidential candidate abused his power with a veto last summer.

    25
  26. You know, the Republican judge who appointed the Republican special prosecutor and the grand jury members are going to be pissed as all getout if charges are dismissed.

And “because he abused his power with a veto”–the way Perry keeps trying to spin it–is not the damn point. He abused his power by threatening. If he’d just vetoed the funding and kept his mouth shut about why, no problem. We’d all know it was because stuff he and Abbott had done was under investigation, but it was his right to veto the funding. If he’d just said “I think she ought to resign,” and left it at that, not threatened…no problem. Freedom of speech would have covered him there.

But threatening to defund if she didn’t resign…THAT was the kicker.

And meanwhile he’s threatened members of the grand jury and they aren’t happy with him about that.

    26
  27. Mary Reynolds (BloodyMary) says:

Perry is busy congratulating himself on turning this hot mess into an advantage in his wacko run for POTUS nomination. He has been in power so long that he considers any and all of his actions above the law. Don’t know which route the Texas Taliban will take—convincing the judge to dismiss or lubricating the Jury (maybe both) but as a 60 year activist in Texas I can see that Slick Rick is confident that his fixers have it all under control. Lord help us…..I hope I’m wrong!

    27
  28. UmptyDump says:

Perry is in New Hampshire this weekend and supporters are handing out T-shirts printed with his mug shot. Insane. And those who would wear one of those have to be insane as well.

    28
  29. Marcia in CO says:

Perry t-shirts with his mug shot on it should have “I R StOOpid” under the picture!!

    29
  30. stormkite says:

Reports are that after he threatened the DA and then cut funding, he offered to reverse the veto and restore funding if she resigned (and even give her another slightly lower-ranking job in the office subordinate to one of his cronies.)

That probably counts as attempted bribery.

  31. Kris Williams says:

One thing is for sure, if his lips move, “oops” ain’t far behind!
