I Love You, Louisiana.
Oh, y’all, thank God for Louisiana because, Honey, they make the Texas Legislature look good.
Earlier this week, two members of the Louisiana legislature got into a fist fight over at a downtown Baton Rouge bar. Oddly enough, or maybe not so damn oddly at all, they are both Republicans. They were arguing over a bill pending in the legislature.
They say they are good friends and things “just got out of control,” and they started punching each other. They didn’t mention it, but I imagine Jose Cuervo helped.
Bishop said the fight was over a bill to alter the make-up of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority Board. Chabert’s bill, Senate Bill 433, would grant voting power to two legislative members on the executive-branch board, which Bishop changed through amendment.
“Bottom line is that it was about that we were going to do something that I deemed unethical in letting the legislative process step over the executive process, and I was not ever going to put my committee members in that position,” Bishop said.
Yeah, putting members of the legislature on an executive-branch board probably isn’t a good idea, and I back that up by pointing out, Holy crap, they got into a damn fist fight at a bar. It’s probably not a great idea to put any two members of the legislature in the same room.
Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards probably shook his damn head before saying …”It doesn’t exactly reflect well on the House or Senate or state government, but I think it’s something we can all get past.”
(Heavy sigh) White boys. What ‘cha gonna do?
Thanks to Mark for the heads up.
I rather suspect that the precipitating “Bill” was the bar tab.
1I have family in LA. These two would qualify as local “entertainment”.
2Ya think! These people are crazy, I’m praying for your son. He is fighting the good fight.
