I Knew I Shouldn’t Have Walked Away From the Computer For Five Hours. I Knew That Was Too Long For Ted Cruz to Stay Out Of Crazyville.

Okay, if Ted Cruz looked familiar on Sunday evening as he lead a small mob of folks with confederate flags all over Washington, DeeCee ….

It’s because he was wearing Rick Perry’s “I am not gay” jacket.

That jacket has become famous as the Texas lyin’ politician jacket.

When Texas politicians want to spur hate behavior, that’s their official jacket.  And it worked tonight!

Good Lord, Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin with folks who hit the dead solid perfect center of a word Zinguy Wally sent me some time back —

Agnotology

Agnotology is the study of culturally induced ignorance.

Look it up.

Amen.

  1. I didn’t think there would be anybody I could despise more than Sarah Palin, but Ted Cruz has topped her in that regard. Unfortunately.

And the jacket looks like it’s too big on Cruz. Maybe that’s because, like the Grinch, his heart is two sizes too small.

I think it’s a personal problem, but something about people waving damn confederate flags around makes me want to go load my rifle and start singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic!! I’d shoot that seditious ba$tard Cruz in a heartbeat!

    2
  3. AIP Palin and Calgary Cruz . . . .
I went into fits of hysterical laughter when Palin said they’d make sure vets weren’t used as political pawns. Projection and cluelessness they name is Sarah.

    3
  4. Agnotology – “nailed it!”

    4
  5. Ah, the CSA flag– the favored flag of those who attack America. Originally used by defenders of slavery who caused great damage to their own states.

Also wry amusement in veteran-defending by chickenhawks who would run like hell if asked to serve in the military themselves. Palin included, and Cruz even more so.

    5
  6. All they needed was the chicken hawk poster boy Ted Nugent up there playing his guitar and winking at a 16 year-old.

  7. Another apt word: “anoesis.”

  8. I’m just checking, cause it’s been a seriously long, long day at the hospital…but didn’t the Confederacy lose the war? So wouldn’t that mean the Confederate flag should sort of just not “be” any more?
And don’t those people that go around parading that flag know that the Confederacy was defeated? I mean, like a long time ago. And there have actually been a few more wars since then, and such.

As I said, it’s late, I’m tired, it was a long day and sometimes I get to wandering about things that should have been dead and buried a long time ago.
As to the jacket…and that God-awful quote by ol’ what’s-his-bucket-OOPS? Isn’t he embarrassed by himself? He sure should be.

  9. e platypus onion says:

“Let me ask a simple question.” said Cruz. Like he had a choice or his audience could understand complicated stuff like breathing on their own. Snowdrift Snoozie sucked all the air out of the mall because that’s all she is good for.

    9
  10. Kath the Scrappy says:

Ah jeepers, Cruz and Perry sure love themselves that Brokeback jacket! Back to the closet guys.

On another note JJ, just want to make sure you catch this link. I love Thom Hartmann, he picks up on all sorts of dirty deals going on behind the scenes! And this seems like a particularly dirty deal they’re /ALEC trying.

“ALEC wants back in the shadows”

  11. Ralph Wiggam says:

Ya know how some dogs like to roll in things that smell bad? I don’t understand it, but it is just like the dogs who carry the Confederate battle flag. They know it stinks, but they want to make sure you have to smell it anyway.

And yes, the Confederacy did lose the war and those who carry the battle flag are just confirming that they are losers too. But you knew that.

And the dude in the picture is carrying flags from two different countries. Clearly he is a confused loser.

    11
  12. Catherine D. says:

Is that jacket issued to Texas politicians upon election?

    12
  13. When do we call it TREASON?
They are trying to destroy the government of the United States.
Destroy and affect the world with their policies.

They are worse then the Taliban because they are citizens of the US.
Cruz should be recalled by the good citizens of Texas.

    13
  14. The Confederate flag is a nice touch.

If not “treason” is what they are doing, at least “sedition”?

If the Democrats give in……. one inch to these crazies, I’m tearing up my voter registration.

Sweet Jesus … what a way to start a Monday morning!!

  16. So Little Rickie WOke up yesterday and realized where he LEft his jacket “Ruh-Ro,” Of course now I have to get that horrible image of Rickie and Teddy in bed together out of my head…..
Yes, Yelling Impeachment and for “Obama to put down the “Quran” is right up there with Classy Protests – and I read the following comment on Paul Krugmans Piece today in the times by Joseph Huben from Upstate NY”
“Leon Panetta said yesterday that elected officials have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic and that the extremists are in violation of that oath. The 14th Amendment states that those in rebellion may not serve in Congress. Clearly Ted Cruz and the rest of the Tea Party have distanced themselves sufficiently in their desire to harm the country in order to end the Affordable Care Act as to represent a clear and present danger to our country. One solution would be to remove them all from office.” Hummmm, now wouldn’t that be special?

    17
  17. Marge Wood says:

TREASON! TREASON! and the embarrassed vets sent out a message that they thought Cruz and Palin were gonna (non-politically) HELP them, not politicize the event.
And I know it don’t rhyme but COUP just might fit in there somewhere. Anyone for making up a song about TREASON and COUP? My blood boils but somehow I think that getting and staying mad needs to be real focused on BEING PEACE MAKERS. Honey, it is dang hard work. Hmm.
I remember an event I went to once where a big line of TEXANS FOR PEACE formed a line between the Tea Party and Everyone Else so nobody could get in a fight.

    18
  18. Marge Wood says:

I also remember the first time I ever saw the Tea Party at work. I calmly went over to one of Cong. Lloyd Doggett’s public town meetings by a grocery store. I was late, of course, and when I got there, saw a huge mob pushing its way into the grocery store. The manager came out and made them leave. Lloyd Doggett’s aides were walking around with clipboards, getting questions and comments from non-mob folks. Doggett had left already since the mob wasn’t letting him talk. In the future he had very tightly organized meetings, with security. That was my first impression of the Tea Party.

    19
  19. More frightening and incredibly concerning than the jacket and the confederate flag is the oath keepers flag

    http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2013/07/25/oath-keepers-rally-reveals-radical-politics-of-group/

there is no humor in this group.

    20
  20. Tedster and Sock Puppet. Mussolini and Evita Peron. Nuff said.

    21
  21. It appears that the North did lose the Civil War. We had to keep the South.

(There are many, many good people in the South, but not enough to elect sane representatives.)

    22
  22. Blind ideology is no way to run a country, but that’s all the Tea Party and extreme conservatives have. Look at their ideas logically and with an eye toward consequences, and it all crumbles.

    23
  23. You know, nothing says “We’re not really racists.” like waving a Confederate Battle flag.

Just for giggles google “the racists roots of the Libertarian Party” and for bonus points Koch and “John Birch Society”. Hint Daddy Koch helped found the Birchers. All that prattle about personal responsibility is based on a foundation of bigotry, patriarchy, and old white privilege cause really they “earned” it and every one weak, sick, poor, or lame is that way because they are lazy and inherently inferior.

    24
  24. And one more thing….. People I talk to jut do not understand how deeply the whole “states rights” issue is the Holy Grail to people who still call the Civil War the War of Northern Aggression. I think most people must lack any knowledge of history or intellectual curiosity. I Also think they confuse the Libertarian loathing of all Federal government as some kind of social liberalism. It is not. They care not a bit if the State and Local government wants to regulate you, theoretically they would support the reinstitution of slavery if it was instituted at a state level.

  25. Angelo_Frank says:

It’s nice to know that Ted Cruz is associated with the treasonous ‘Oath Keepers’. That bunch is really dangerous to this country.

    26
  26. Please be sure to wish Carnival Cruz a happy Thanksgiving. http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/canada/thanksgiving-day

Thanksgiving Day is national public holiday in Canada. Many people have the day off work and all schools and post offices are closed. Many stores and other businesses and organizations are also closed. Public transport services may run to a reduced timetable or may not run at all.

    27
  27. Okie-Dokie says:

Rachel Maddow nailed that visual of the man with the Confederate flag and the USMC banner on her show. Didn’t the USMC fight against the Confederacy? That sums the “Tea Party” and their thinking.

    28
  28. @Kyle — boy, all those things that happen on Canadian Thanksgiving Day sounds just like our government shutdown.

@LynnN — Love your line about the North having to keep the South. Keep ’em coming. Docs say I need to laugh whenever possible.

JJ — thanks for this site. it feels like home — an oasis in an otherwise scary inhospitable world.

    29
  29. How appropriate that a snake is pictured on the flag flying above Cruz’ head!
