I Have No Words

I know the NRA tells me that it’s too soon for me to talk about guns, because, you know, I’m reacting from emotion.  I am surely talking about gun today but it’s not about what happened today, it’s about what happened at the last mass shooting, and the one before that, and the one before that, and the one before ….

There is no reason for anyone to own an assault weapon.

  1. It’s way too soon to talk about gun control but it was okay to start screaming about banning Muslims from this country before the shots even stopped echoing.

Of course, the fact that the shooter was born in this country does put a bit of a crimp in that story, but they’ll figure out a way to get around that.

From the number of people killed in such a brief time, I wonder if he used a large capacity magazine as well. But we’re not allowed to talk about banning them either because they have other uses besides killing large numbers of people in a short amount of time. Like using them for… ummm…

Animals like Patrick are complicit in these killings, using their fauxknee brand of Kristianity to judge others when their imaginary god tells them not to judge. At present I can’t imagine a horrible enough death for people of Patrick’s ilk. I’m working on it.

    Dan Patrick supports terrorism.

That mf$0b has been a boil on the butt of humanity since the day he arrived on the planet.

And Drumpf proudly proclaims that the NRA has endorsed him.
We have to get to a place where that endorsement is the kiss of death for the candidate, since it has been for so many innocent Americans

  6. Sickened by another mass killing, and sick of having to be sickened. There will be no passage of any gun control. If someone can blow away twenty first-graders and nothing is done, nothing will ever be done. But that doesn’t mean we should stop denouncing the madness of letting it happen again and again.

Rhea, although he will be roundly criticized for both speaking too soon and not speaking soon enough by the usual crowd of snacilbupeR, I await the words of our President and the man most sickened by gun violence. He’s had to console the nation after Sandy Hook, Charleston and too many mass murders due to assault weapons. I hope President Obama ‘takes the gloves off’ and places the responsibility on the NRA and their nacilbupeR lap dogs.

Politicize? That accusation by the NRA and snacilbupeR is almost sufficient to force me to break the Momma rules. But I won’t. Instead I’ll turn that snacilbupeR projection gem back on them. Really. The party that thrives on “they’re coming to take your guns away,” Jade Helm conspiracy theories and a ton of the stuff that built the mountain Jon Stewart mocked needs to be held to account for the ridiculous fears they spout to motivate their base. It ain’t happened, it will never happen. Obama didn’t come for your guns. Hilz will not come for your guns. But yes, we the sane American people will limit your access to assault weapons and excessive multiple round magazines. Keep it up ammosexuals and this voter will reconsider your “need” for a six shooter and limit you to the muzzle loader of the time of the 2nd Amendment you love to misquote.

  10. WA Skeptic says:

    Regulate that f***in’ militia NOW.

Nobody needs a military assault rifle unless you’re in the military.

    10
  11. There are too many bible trashing churches in Florida teaching people the same kind of hate that drove Omar. Religion and guns need to be well regulated.

    11
  12. Columbine, Sandyhook, San Bernadino, and Orlando – all the shooters used AR15’s. You don’t need an assault weapon to shoot Bambi and if you do you have no business hunting! These are military grade weapons designed to kill and they should never be in the hands of civilians.

    12
  13. Just read a report, the police officers and paramedics are in the building amidst the carnage and the cell phones of dead are constantly ringing as loved ones try to locate the dead. Dear God, we don’t pay these people enough. My heart is breaking.

How is it that assault weapons like AR-15s are supposedly protected under the Second Amendment, but hand grenades are not? Both are mass personnel killing devices.

    15
  16. Sandridge says:

    Deb @at 12:25 pm,
What a sad image, I reacted as JAKv, and I don’t have any particular affinity to the whole ‘scene/lifestyle’ involved (I saw enough of it commuting late nights down Westheimer through Montrose long ago, weird stuff to a country guy, ick factor, etc.).

I did once assist at many accident scenes (mostly before cellphones), the blood and guts stays with you…
    .
On guns, we’ll just have to disagree…but I, and most owners, treat them responsibly, and reasonably.

    16
  17. I agree, no one needs an assault weapon. We have enough idiots with guns and the problem is getting bigger. Guns do not solve problems!

    17

  19. I have always been curious about why all the so called “christians” always quote the old testament instead of the New testament.
Granted both are products of, and appeal to, the delusional but the teachings of the New testament are suppose to be of love and inclusiveness whereas the old was of a vengeful magic man in the sky.
If they are “christians” let them cite the 7 Beatitudes not the 10 commandments.
If they are really of the Jewish delusion, v. the christian delusion or pick your flovor of fantasies, then quote the testamnet that purports to promote your choosen cults beliefs.
but to pick and choose while claiming adherence to a specific mythical teaching of delusional cultism is cogniyive distonence

    19
  20. @Sandridge I respect hunters and the need to cull the herd. Having lived in a few rural towns over the years I have av healthy appreciation for venison in many forms and for the hunters who shared it with me. I suppose I draw the line at AR15s and the multiple mags that go with them. I’ve always believed that you don’t need a semi automatic etc to go after Bambi, fact is there won’t be much left of Bambi if you do. I don’t object to hunting rifles, I know you can still folks with them but they just don’t cause the 50+ person mass carnage. Australia made the decision to call a hault to these things and suicides are down mass shooting are close to non – existence.

Any way, I think we can all agree that folks on the terrorist watch list shouldn’t get guns, I think we can also probably agree that perpetrators of domestic violence in particular and violent crimes in general ought not to have such weapons. I strongly suspect we all agree on the need for improving mental healthcare.

There is room for reasonable people to disagree on approaches to the issue but we have to do something. Florida alone has had 15 mass shootings since the start of the year. I only wish our gutless Congress would do something.

    20
  21. @ Sandridge–

I respect the “most” gun owners who “treat them responsibly and reasonably,” and I support your right to own them–just as I support the “most” drivers who use their vehicles “responsibly and reasonably,” but we all drive under careful restrictions to help protect us from the ones who don’t. It’s an imperfect system, but it’s better than nothing. We need at least something to protect us from the irresponsible and unreasonable few.

As regards your experiences around Montrose and Westheimer, I’ll tell you what I told my sister who opined that “I just don’t like to think about the way they have sex”: I don’t want to think about the way you have sex, either, so if you’ll keep your sex life to yourself and they keep theirs to themselves, I think we’ll all get along just fine. I don’t hang around bars where I don’t want to watch sleezy men picking up sleezy women, and I don’t hang around bars where men pick up other men. Works pretty well for me.

There is no NEED for anyone to own an assault weapon. There is just desire. To those who say we cannot get rid of all of them, I say well, NO we cannot especially if we do not try.

  23. Susan on the Left Coast says:

Florida’s Gov. Rich Scott is refusing to admit that the right wing’s stochastic talking points inspired in yet another act of violence against the very people they target from behind a microphone, on chamber floors and whilst pounding pulpits.

Am so proud Obama ordered flags flown at half staff around the world.

    23
  24. Polite Kool Marxist says:

AliceBeth, bingo! The snacibupeR ‘rationale’ for no gun safety legislation is that no law is 100% perfect, so “let’s do nothing.” However, we sane folks know eliminating assault weapons and mass kill capacity magazines will eliminate a significant amount of the carnage. We also know that as with vehicles, insurance requirements for weapons will reduce a number of the ‘accidental’ discharges. As with the moron drivers insurance companies place in high risk status, those same actuarial folks will get to work reining in the irresponsible ammosexuals. Insurance companies are in the business of collecting premiums. They’re not happy about paying claims.

The snacilbupeR claim they love the free market. So, what’s not for them to love about insurance. I am no more worried about buying policies for my guns than I am about purchasing them for our vehicles. Those ‘good guy rates’ encourage better behavior on the road and will similarly influence gun owners.

    24
  25. AliceBeth says:

@ PKM, I am a pretty simple realist. Being a nurse for 37 years gives you a perspective. If they did not do anything when children were slaughtered in Newtown, they are not going to do anything about the slaughter of gay people.

    25
  26. e platypus onion says:

NRA continually lies about Obama taking your guns, now they claim that HRC is the most anti-2nd amendment candidate EVER! How can that be if Obama takes your guns,HRC won’t have anything to take from gun owners. What liars these liars be.

    26
  27. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Senator Since I Can’t Find a Job Rubio just displayed his ignorance. He was devoid of any concrete suggestions of what can be done. For one Rubio, you can roll up your sleeves to donate blood as most of us do, when there is a time of increased need. Two, while your sleeves are rolled up go to work. Stop obstructing sane gun safety measures. Third, the hard part, Marco, think. Think about what a ban on assault rifles and excessive capacity magazines would do to eliminate the ability of mass murderers to kill large groups of people in little time.

Four, call your pals Paul Ryan, Trey Gowdy and Darrell Issa. Suggest that they cease wasting our money on unending asked & answered investigations about Benghazi and ceaseless investigations of fictitious accusations about Planned Parenthood. Ask instead why this latest shooter was investigated by the FBI twice, yet was able to obtain an assault rifle. Check the gaps in our laws that allowed that to happen.

I checked in on FOX. I know, nasty work — but someone has to do it.

Since this was a Muslim who killed gays, it must have been a tough decision for them on how they were going to report it — as in, who they were going to be rooting for.

SO FAR, I haven’t heard them blaming Obama though they HAVE spent more time reporting on the fact that the FBI had investigated this guy twice than they have on the victims and their families. So far as I’ve heard, no suggestions on how to help.

What they HAVE done is sensationalize it by inference. Lots of low voices and dramatic pauses. Lots of self-importance. Lots of “see how fair and balanced we’re being?”

And I’ve heard TWO people say things about “looking on the bright side.” One of those was the fact that the instance in California apparently isn’t related to the one in Florida. HOW IS THAT GOOD NEWS? But that’s how they spun it.

I wish they would just keep their mouths shut at times like this. I don’t want the people whose main “news source” is FOX to get any bright ideas — especially with Pride Weeks across the country coming up. And that’s not to mention retaliations against Muslims across the country.

  31. e platypus onion says:

Former dumbassbassador John Bolton was on Fake Noise telling the world that our gubmint can’t read and follow clues to domestic terrorists.

This from the administration that knew terrorists were planning to hijack planes and fly them into buildings and did nothing to prevent 9-11. They knew there were suspected terrorists learning to fly jetliners w/o learning to take off or land and did nothing about it.

Obama has been trying to get sensible gun controls and wingnuts block his every move. Because of wingnuts and the NRA terrorists on watch lists are allowed to buy weapons in the good old U S of A.

    31
  32. charles r. phillips says:

When a flaw in a car’s gas tank design kills a few people, it is not politicizing the issue to start discussing recalls. When a design flaw in a jetliner causes a hundred deaths, we demand that the whole fleet be grounded until the problem is fixed. No one calls that politics, they call it “prudence.”

So why is there a mythical waiting period before we can start working out ways to prevent gun violence?

    32
  33. Aggieland Liz says:

@deb I have never been able to forget the Newtown story about one grieving family giving away the already bought and wrapped Christmas presents. The ringing cell phones just added a soundtrack to that vignette of sorrow. It is an abyss…I’m with Alice Beth, if the wanton destruction of 20 wide eyed innocents didn’t do it for us, nothing will. We are depraved. You can add my tears to the flood.

    33
  34. AliceBeth says:

Just had a person on another site question my call for banning assault weapons and he (I guess) wanted to know why them, I responded the word “assault” should explain it. It will be interesting if he has a response.

    34
  35. These religions that supposedly teach love but cleverly hide hate in their teachings ARE the problem.

Muslim father that preaches homophobia has a son that kills gays.

Christian politicians using their office to preach against gays.

    Sad.
