Hey, At Least They Didn’t Name the Junior High School After Him

The Steeple People put up a billboard in Alabama to display their work with children.

That’s cool.  Everybody ought to love children.

Even Hitler.

Yep.  Hitler said that alright.  But I don’t think he meant it in the good way.  Wait, there’s a Bible quote under there that seems to indicate that Hitler was right.  Whoa, cowpokes, what’s the message here?

The 1935 quote was said in reference to the Hitler Youth program, which indoctrinated children in preparation for joining the Nazi Party.

Life Savers Ministries founder James Anderegg told the Ledger-Enquirer that it had been a mistake to use the Hitler quote, and that the billboard would be taken down on Tuesday.

Mistake?  Ya think?

Here’s their website.  No mention of Hitler there.  Thank goodness.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Time for the (metaphorical) eyeball bleach. Yikes!

  2. At least they didn’t dress the children in sheets.

Actually, the historical shift of the Wandervogel youth to the Hitler Youth is frighteningly similar to the Xtian Taliban and their attempts to establish a theocratic form of government.

Who knows? Maybe Hagee is the reincarnation of Hitler.

  4. PKM #3: You may have something there. Though maybe Hagee is just an acolyte rather than an actual reincarnation.

  5. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Yonit, acolyte is probably more accurate, thank you. Synonym for acolyte, torch bearer; moving on to cross burning and a few adjectives I wouldn’t begin to attempt to slip pass Mama and we ‘have’ the Xtians.

From Xtian we could move on to French/English homophones for Xtian, but Mama probably wouldn’t forgive us for explaining the difference between la chien and le chienne, un, une, and all the translations ranging between dog, female dog and a euphemism for a female dog that fit the Xtians.

Apologies ahead of time, if all the dog mentions bring on a sniffing Rick Santorum.

  6. I think everyone has noticed the proclivity of the RWNJ’s for falling in love with quotes without so much as lifting a fingernail to do a little digging on sources. Much may they be embarrassed! However, I don’t think it will change their ways one damn bit!

I have to say, I went to the website and noticed their goals. Without endorsing their particular theological bent or wondering why in the world they quoted Hitler, I will say lots of bad neighborhoods need that kind of care. I used to tell stories in a housing project for 5 years. Everyone there was poor, many different stories, but they were all poor and many were trying hard to get out of there. I admire anyone who has the courage to go pick up trash in a bad neighborhood.

  8. No. Using the word “to” when you should have written “too” is a mistake. Using a Hitler quote about indoctrinating children is more of an abomination.

  9. Anybody else notice the trend?
The RW makes outlandish statements that appeal to their fellow rabble rouses, and then prints an non apology and we, the sane bunch accept it.

Why? Why do we accept the rants of cruz, palin and crazy louie, with barely a murmur?
Why don’t we push back, hard, against them?
I am beginning to think it is not a waste of time.
We, and I mean all of us sane people are allowing the insanity to spread by making it seem normal.

Using Hitler almost as a God quote as LynnN above me states, is not a mistake. It was deliberate.
I am sure the only mistake they see is that they got caught, not that they did anything wrong.
Can you image the rants that would have occurred if somehow the Democrats were involved?

    Alabama was having trouble
    What a sad, sad story
Needed a new leader to restore
    Its former glory
    Where, oh, where was he?
    Where could that man be?
We looked around and then we found
The man for you and me

    And now it’s…
    Springtime for Hitler and Alabam
This state is happy NOT gay!
We’re marching to a faster pace
Look out, here comes the master race!
    Springtime for Hitler in Birmingham
Bama’s a fine land once more!
    Springtime for Hitler and Alabam
    Watch out, liberals
    We’re going on tour!
    Springtime for Hitler and Alabam!

I can just picture Mel Brooks singing that tune.
Diane is so right, but how to push back against such widespread hate and ignorance?

  12. I’ve heard that even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I remember reading a question/comparison about WWII leaders. Which one neither smoked or drank alcohol, and I forget another lifestyle characteristic (maybe vegetarian?). The answer was Hitler, in contrast to Roosevelt and Churchill. They had him beat on other areas of character, however.

  13. He speaks the truth by accident and now he will have to take it down. They are busy controlling the youth by home schooling them in order to indoctrinate them into the born again movement of sheeple steeple people.

@ Susie–guess you never heard that late nite Dr Demento’s favorite, “Hitler, was a vegetarian, too, Hitler was a vegetarian too…” It was a favorite station of mine when driving across the Midwest at 2am…I just remember a bit of it, but it was a catchy tune! I break into it whenever my preachy veggie type friends start getting pushy…I don’t care, I have vegan to steak tartare eating friends, although the currant Mr and Mrs Potato Heads eating potato chips made my beloved and I agree that that was just wrong! I’m of the why can’t we all just get along type–I remember the “tastes like chicken” commercial was funny too!

So y’all willing to go hang out in crappy neighborhoods and help kids learn to read? You willing to hang out in coffee shops and listen to young adults who have given up on voting and give them some hope? I don’t care if you go as Christians, Muslims, liberal Democrats, pagans, Independents, whatever, as long as you are out there doing something about the dreadful situation our country is in.
