Hey!

March 26, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I do not know who sent me Larry King’s book that’s signed and everything, because the bookshop did not include a card.

But, whoever it is, I love you!  It will hold a special place on my Texas books bookshelf.  It’s been 30 years since I read it and it deserves another reading.

Fess up so I can hug you.

As I recall, the book was a thousand times better than the movie.

Oh, I’ve got to get that book! Although, my recollection is that King wrote an article by that name for Playboy. It was never a book. Then he was approached for the rights to turn it into a musical, which I saw in Dallas many long years ago. Also saw the movie, which was a huge disappointment. The article was great and the onstage musical was great.

  3. The movie definitely had its really funny spells but I did kinda feel sorry for Reynolds when he had to pick up and carry a really fulsome Dolly Parton. She doesn’t look like that any more.

No offense, but I thought the movie was just awful and so did Larry L King if I remember correctly. Whoever thought Burt Reynolds could sing or Dolly Parton could act are seriously disturbed peoples and need help.

The book would have to be unfit for outhouse duty(or is that doody) to be worse than the movie.

  6. The best thing about the movie was that the wacky, over-the-top character of Melvin P. Thorpe (played by Dom DeLuise, I think) was in fact not nearly as bizarre as the real-life counterpart, the late lamented Maaaaarvin Zindler. I miss that guy.
