Here’s the Deal

October 03, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I have decided to go to the debate watch party.  So, I am going to leave this open thread for you guys to comment.  I’ll check in every now and then to offer smirks and approve comments.

Some damn fool made three appointments for me today.  I gotta quit doing that.

Be social and share!

  1. Bring a smartphone w/headphones so you can hear over the yelling.

  2. TexasEllen says:

I’m taking a dozen Hostess Zingers to the kid’s place. Every time Mitt attempts one, everyone takes a bite. Every one that falls flat will be followed by sip of stiff drink.

    2
  3. OK, All. If you have the time, listen to the piece from Morning Edition today on “pivoting” done by politicians to avoid answering a question.
Then we can all look for the pivots. I don’t drink, so taking a shot doesn’t interest me, but I could go for the Zingers!

    3
  4. I am begging all of you to go easy on the consumption of alcohol and zingers. I want you all to be alive enough to cast your vote for Obama. We do not need any overdoses from sugar or alcohol

  5. Marge Wood says:

    Save some for me!

  6. daChipster says:

One hour to go! I’m about to sit down and have breakfast for dinner, and enjoy the MSNBC team pre-game!

  7. DonA in Pennsyltucky says:

Atlanta 2 Pittsburgh 0 bottom of 4th. McCutcheon picked off to end the inning.

    NY 7 Boston 1 bottom of 6th. NY runners on1st & 3rd with 1 out.

    7
  8. daChipster says:

Mitt just called his sons a pack of liars. I guess they come by it honestly!

    8
  9. Kate oDubhagain says:

    Mitt sounds nervous.

    9
  10. he smirks like bush……..aaaarrrgggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! i’m so trying to listen to this but jeezzzzzzz. he’s an idiot.

    10
  11. daChipster says:

“I like Big Bird!” Game over!

    11
  12. san fraser says:

daC – he is using the tactic that works so well for the “my mind is made up don’t confuse me with facts” group – keep repeating your spiel soooo earnestly that you can’t be mistaken for a fraud. He knows that if Obama calls him out he will look even better

    12
  13. I’ve already won the first Bingo so now I’m following shiny objects. Anyone know what that thing is on Romney’s flag lapel plan? A dollar sign?

    13
  14. I lasted about 30 seconds until Mitt opened his mouth the first time.

    14
  15. oh daChipster we don’t need PBS those people with there whole 1% of the budget don’t support the conservative agenda. we don’t need no stinkin’ arts, or education it’s far more important to give the oil companies more tax breaks. i think i need a drink. politifact is twitting and romney is getting called on his ‘truths’

    15
  16. DonA in Pennsyltucky says:

    NY 14 Boston 2.

    16
  17. I asked the Internet what the additional thing is on Romney’s lapel pin. Best info is that it’s a gold elephant. The enlargements are too indistinct to discern if the elephant is shtupping the flag.

    17
  18. daChipster says:

Romney has a horrible case of the blinks! He’s either lying his patootie off, or he’s sending S.O.S. in Morse code.

    18
  19. oh thanks daChipster I needed that laugh!

    19
  20. @daChipster, LOL. You’re right, he blinks constantly and I’ve always heard it is a sign of lying. He also is saying the same thing over and over again, and acting as if he is in charge of the debate.

    20
  21. I felt Mitt was a bit snarky – and the President was too nice in return.

    21
  22. Well, I sat through the whole damn thing … Mitt’s continuous smirking and blinking and just how many times did he say $715 Billion … I lost count after the first 4 or 5 times! I kept talking to the TV, hopefully the neighbors [Repukes] didn’t hear me! I know Barack was getting irritated with Mitt and I kept saying … “Just keep your cool” … he did … but at the end if anyone was sending zingers … it was Pres. Obama. If Mitt shot off anything even close to a zinger … I’m not sure I caught it!! He just kept repeating the same ole crap!!

I don’t think Mitt won this one but then I’m pretty biased towards Barack so I think he pretty much aced it!

Have a good night, folks … you, too, Juanita!!

    22
  23. I couldn’t watch but it was on in the next room. I hate to say it but Mitt sounded dominant, which is what people who don’t know anything find convincing. Fingers crossed that I’m wrong. It is scary to think that there are people who know next to nothing about the complexities of this nation and the world and will make up their minds on the basis of superficial impressions.

    23
  24. daChipster says:

Short view consensus will be that Romney won the battle on style points. But the long-term political effect will that we will spend the next week deconstructing every last lie that Mitt uttered, every item that he “liked,” and every flop that he flipped.

    24
  25. VintageMomma says:

I could not believe my ears when Mittens said he didn’t think the government should get between people and their medical decisions (in referring to the “nonelected” board provided in ObamaCare) I wish, with all of my heart, that President Obama had smacked him down with, “Except, of course, when you are talking about women, isn’t that right, Mitt?”

    25
  26. My take was that it leaned more toward Mitt Romney winning partly because for the very first time he was personable. Just getting over the shock of that gave him points. He was aggressive, too aggressive in my book – but hey. His weakest area continues to be a lack of specifics. Obama pressed but none issued forth. President Obama was stronger toward the end – hope to see more of the same in round 2. I almost believe the way the president handled the debate was by design so watchers could get over him supposedly being “The Great Debater” and in the next debate he can relax and really run. Hope this is true.

    26
  27. I love how he took the President’s meme, “helping the middle class” and tried to make it his own. We’re supposed to forget about his true feelings. The President did call him on that a few times.
I really think it would behoove everyone if they would really stick to the time constraints by calling time or switching off the microphones when they go over. I know, I know, but letting either of the people debating take the time from the other isn’t right.
I’m not sure if there was a winner here, but I know that there will be some heavy fact checking.
I hope with the next few debates the President will have the opportunity to call him out on his flip flopping and his skewing of the facts. I’d really like him to nail him to the wall, but I know that’s a fantasy and will not happen. We must present a calm and respectful demeanor. Too bad.

    27
  28. Ellen Childress says:

I did wonder why President Obama didn’t call Romney out on the 47% and the $715 billion points. There were certainly good openings offered. The constant blinking by Romney made me wonder if he was trying out some new contact lenses or just lying every time he opened his mouth and felt nervous about it. Frankly, I didn’t hear any of the famous “zingers” he was supposed to have been memorizing.

    28
  29. I have to admit I agree with Mary C. There are a lot of people who vote for someone because they dominate conversations.

    29
  30. Just Suze says:

Willard reminded me of the worst boss I ever had in my life – a snide bully! I wished for those old Nerf TV bricks. Now that would have been satisfying.

This morning, BBC News is claiming ole Mittens “won” the debate. We’ll see. There may be a blip in the polls. I am hoping that it’ll be a small and short-lived one.

    30
  31. Ralph Wiggam says:

I was disappointed that the President missed the question on the role of government. Mitt went straight to the Declaration of Independence and that’s wrong. The role of government is clearly listed in the Preamble to the Constitution: “form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”

(One of my pet peeves is people who have fantasies about the purpose of our government.)
