Helluva Idea – Stand With Wendy

June 24, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, guys, a customer who calls herself shy and doesn’t post here has an electric light idea.

Senator Wendy Davis of Texas will filibuster the Texas Senate tomorrow for women’s reproductive rights.  Cecil Richards is on her way to Austin to have a rally.  This is battleground for warrior women.

I know what we can do – at home and in the gallery – now that the customer told me.

I would not be surprised if those in gallery who can, remain standing with Senator Wendy Davis as she filibusters tomorrow. I plan to turn my chairs upside down, or put pots and pans and books on them and on the couches. I don’t plan to sit while she filibusters, so I know what she is enduring. I will work at my desk standing up. I will take my bathroom breaks. .

Please stand with Wendy.  And if you want to send a selfie or have a friend to take a picture, stand with Wendy and I’ll post it here.  Stand in the gallery of the Senate, move your computer to the drainboard and stand while web surfing, or stand watching teevee.

Just stand, dammit.  Everywhere in America, Stand with Wendy.

Be social and share!

    CECILE Richards, not Cecil.

    Wendy is the best.

  2. BarbinDC says:

There’s already a “Draft Wendy” movement to get her to run for Governor. I think I saw something yesterday. Seems like a ripe moment; but, TX Dems are going to have to do the groundwork to convince her to run, IMHO.

Great idea. STAND wherever we are. Do we need to wear orange too? Mine is in the laundry. Looked like some folks last night had special lapel pins that were orange. We could make pins out of orange cardboard and tape a safety pin on the back. You do know that it took women many many years and lots of aggravation to get the vote.

  4. KATIE DID says:

i ain’t old enough to remember women getting the vote; but i remember from back before abortion was legal. i lost 5 friends to botched, illegal abortions. AND somehow we got to find a way to keep it.

i just stood at the sink doing dishes for my pregnant daughter, she was not feeling well. unfortunately, that is about as long as i could stand, physically.

but in SPIRIT, i am standing at attention. ms. wendy, hand salute, to.

http://www.senate.state.tx.us/bin/live.php for live broadcasts in the Senate. Watched her live last session read letters from students making fools of Republican Senators who allowed 30 billion to be cut from Education.

    In case you missed this:

Here’s the video from Rep. Farrar’s speech TONIGHT on the House floor explaining what happened in State Affairs on Thursday and imploring the Texas House to do better for the women of Texas. Please share widely! Thanks, Lize

Love this symbolic action! Will do. Wish we’d done something like this in Kansas – but we had little to no warning of what was coming.

I truly believe that when enough people join in concerted thought, things change. Thanks Juanita for the suggestion. You’re on!

  8. Lorraine in Spring says:

I’m standing with Senator Wendy Davis and ready to write a check to elect this women Governor of Texas.

May I suggest she read “The Handmaid’s Tale” during her filibuster?

    8
  9. It sounds like you have great momentum for this event tomorrow..keep it up to get out the vote in 2014 and send those legislative losers packing.

    9
  10. @Lorraine in Spring – excellent idea – and so appropriate!

    10
  11. @Lorraine in Spring, That’s the perfect book for Ms. Davis to read and I’m ready to write a check too.

I will stand with Ms. Davis tomorrow as long as I can, but it will be mostly standing mentally for her.

    11
  12. I’ll be driving, but I’ll be standing with Wendy in principle. I hope it works.

  13. Marion in Savannah says:

Thanks so much for everything that you, Juanita Jean, and all of the Democratic women in Texas are doing to try to preserve women’s rights. I’ll be standing with you (at least figuratively if not literally) tomorrow. Keep on keeping on with the good fight.

    13
  14. Go gals!

    14
  15. You mean in Texas you actually have to filibuster for real– you can’t just yell “Filibuster!” and the majority party curls up on the floor with its feet in the air, like they do in DC?

When I met Steny Hoyer at a local Dem meeting, I told him that they ought to make the Publicans stand there and yap in public instead of caving in to the GOP threat on every [word omitted] bill that comes down the pike. He said that it ties everything up for days and nothing gets done. I said that nothing gets done now.

But best of luck to Senator Davis on filibustering for real on a real important issue! Help keep women alive and safe!

I plan stand in or outside the Senate gallery tomorrow evening. Go, Wendy!

  17. I’ll be standing with Wendy! Great idea.

    17
  18. I would like to second the remarks of Marion in Savannah!

    18
  19. I’m in. I’m going to work standing up for as long as Wendy is up. While I’m doing this I’ll be sending positive thoughts to Wendy and ALL the women sisters in TX. Just a little Yankee love & support from New York.

    19
  20. Miss Prissybritches says:

    STAND with WENDY.

    20
  21. FYI -don’t stand in the senate gallery. Against the rules. Unless,of course, you want to get thrown out!

    21
  22. Thank you, Wendy!!!!!! For all of us!!!!!!

    22
  23. Is anybody watching the news feed from the Lege? It’s a riot – almost a real one. Sure wish I could have been there!!

    23
  24. Sorry the tricksters squashed it, but Sen. Wendy got headlines in the BBC! We will continue to shout, march, whatever it takes. I am old enough to have a friend who got pregnant, in the Bad Days. She even tried falling down steps…I will stand, again, wherever, whenever!
