Heads Up

July 24, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I’m at a ballgame.  You probably aren’t, so you might be interested in the fact that after they took away her speaking rights, Debbie Wassemann Schultz has resigned as chairman of the DNC.

How about Elizabeth Warren as the head of the DNC?

Be social and share!

  1. Just read on Crooks & Liars. Donna Brazile will serve as “interim chair”. Stay tuned.

  2. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Ben Jealous had suggested former MI Gov Jennifer Granholm as a running mate for Hilz. Great idea, except she would be ineligible (Canadian born.) However, she would make a great DNC chair. Or, maybe Sen Cory Booker? He’s young, energetic, and seems to want to up his level of participation.

I’d accept Sen Warren as DNC chair, US President, Gov of NV, or any position she wants. Although she has been clear that she likes her role as a Senator. She’s fantastic as a Senator, so it’s probably best we allow her to focus on what she likes and does best. As much as many of us would like, we can’t clone her. yet 😉

  3. e platypus onion says:

Drumpf will claim Hill is pandering to minorities. Speaking of which have you seen the Dems summer interns?

Donna B is a well know figure from WJC’s presidency.

    3
  4. We have to get over this APPOINT ELIZABETH WARREN TO EVERYTHING obsession that seems to have taken over. I like Warren just where she is, serving her constituency and slowly building up oversight backbone in the Senate. Don’t take her away from that!

There are lots of other dedicated, smart, principled reform-minded liberals around. But all anyone can ever think of is Warren Warren Warren. We need a team not just one star no matter how good.

    4
  5. Nancy in IL says:

She’s not stepping down until after the convention.
    #NeverHillary
    #NeverTrump
For those who were concerned by my stand in not voting for Hillary (sorry, I wasn’t able to get back and comment in a timely manner)… If a deli offered a sh*t sandwich or a feces fajita, I don’t have to choose either one, I go somewhere else. And until enough of us decide we have other choices, that’s what you’re going to get: a sh*t sandwich or a feces fajita.

I was a Democrat for 40 years, but no longer.

    5
  6. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Alan, agreed. We could spend some time and energy finding roles for Cecile Richards and Wendy Davis. Texas, do all of us a favor, please. Replace Loathsome Ted with Ms Richards and Louie Gohmert with Ms. Davis. So many intelligent women in Texas that it seems a shame to keep sending morons to Congress.

    6
  7. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Moving forward with Chair Donna Brazile, inviting Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to return as vice-chair would be a smooth move.

    7
  8. Pretzelogic in Philly, PA says:

Not sure how active Howard Dean’s current law practice is, but AFAIK he’s still technically “chairman emeritus” of the DNC since being replaced as active chair in 2009 by… Tim Kaine.

    😀

    8
  9. Old Quaker says:

Leave Liz in the Senate. Let Donna keep the job. She could be full time and she’s a pro at political organizing.

    9
  10. Marge Wood says:

I think the ones of us who babble on about E.Warren are just giving her a hurrah! I love her. This is a true story. I’ve read her last book and heard/seen her with her grandchildren. My grandchildren are moving n far away. I thought and thought, if Elizabeth Warren can go make cookies on weekends with her grandchilren and go to their recitals etc, so can I. Well, I might not go every weekend but just sayin’. And our son taught me how to use Google Connect today. We WILL stay in touch. Yes!

Good comments PKM. Lots of great people; let’s spread the work around.

    10
  11. I like Elizabeth Warren for Majority Leader of the Senate, how about y’all?

Nancy in IL says, in explaining why she doesn’t want to vote for either major nominee, “If a deli offered a sh*t sandwich or a feces fajita, I don’t have to choose either one, I go somewhere else.” Sorry, Nancy, but we are all GOING TO GET either Clinton or Trump, because that’s how US politics works. I voted third party myself my first time, but since then I’ve seen that every vote not for the Democrat is a vote for the Republican. And the GOP nominee this time is so freakin’ far out there that I can’t imagine not voting for the ONLY candidate who has any chance of keeping him far away from power in this country. Granted Clinton is not ideal, but the only other outcome is vastly worse.

    11
  12. Chloe Bear says:

I think Steney Hoyer is a great choice to serve as head of the DNC. He is sharp, quick witted, has the political acumen, can raise money and has one of the most amazing staffs on the Hill.

    12
  13. Chloe, as long as Steny can both run the DNC and be our effective Representative. And he may still be hoping to get the post that Nancy Pelosi beat him to the last time.

    13
  14. Aggieland Liz says:

Hi Nancy, if you can’t bring yourself to vote for Hilz (even though she chose Tim Kaine, which is a masterstroke) can you please vote in your down ballot races? Just skip the presidential ballot and help us get some sanity back into the chambers of the House and Senate-we really need that, and that would serve as damage control whoever winds up in the Oval Office. Note that Mrs Clinton is more likely to appoint Supreme Court justices who are favorable to our policy and cause wishes, also. A cooperative-or at least reasonable!- legislative body would sure help us out in those respects!

    14
  15. NO! No politicians in office! You need someone to do that job FULL-TIME, not a sideline to their real job!

It was a HUGE mistake to let DWS have that job.

    15
  16. Lunargent says:

I don’t care who they pick, as long as it’s someone who will push a 50-state strategy, and try to win back Congress. So much of Obama’s potential was wasted – let’s give Hill a chance to govern!

    16
  17. Lunargent says:

Rhea – Amen on Warren for Senate Majority Leader. Of course, first we need a Senate majority. GOTV!

    17
  18. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Nancy in IL, I respect your position and your 40 years as a Democrat. And, I understand when “enough is enough.” I’m sort of new to all this having proudly voted for President Obama in my first election experience. What you have stated as final for you is not dissimilar to what many of us millennials are saying to the DNC. In my case, it’s yeah, ok, I’ll vote for Hilz this time, because Donnie Drumpf is a literal possibility of a nuclear disaster. But, that big word ‘but’, do not thank me, do not patronize me and sure as hell do NOT expect me to repeat my mistake, if it becomes apparent it was a mistake. And please, do not “thank me for playing;” because I’m not ‘playing.’ DNC – if your candidate embroils us in war, sells out our economy, harms the environment or in any fashion “screws the pooch” rest assured that I won’t wait 4 years.

In fact, I will work my a$$ off to fix what I find deficient in the Green Party. Their biggest ‘deficiency’ is not lining up sooner to be on the ballot in all 50 states. We cannot wait until the DNC and RNC announce candidates a year out; a third party needs that 3-4 year running start.

    18
  19. PKM, whatever harm the Dem does to the environment is trivial compared with the harm the GOP would do if they could. They want to eliminate the EPA, toss renewable energy, and throw out any provisions for reducing climate change. We cannot afford those science-ignoring morons.

Look at the Congressional and Senate scorecards kept by the League of Conservation Voters. Anybody scoring 85% and up is a Dem. Anybody in single digits is GOP. And notice also that there are very, very few people scoring between 10 and 85.

  20. JAKvirginia says:

Nancy in IL: Wow… looks like you drank the Kool-Aid twice!

#NeverHillary? Great. Then who? Nice to complain and you allude to “others”, but who?

The crazy people are buying the myth of the Great and Powerful Wizard of Trump and you are buying 30-odd years of Republicans painting Hillary as the Wicked Witch.

But again… who is this “perfect” person you envision? Where are they?

I don’t need perfect. Everyone has flaws. What I need is an experienced and knowledgeable politician with a cool head and a working intellect. I see that with Hillary.

We Democrats sent Obama to the woodshed. Oh, yes we did. We did not have the man’s back. We did not give him the Democratic Congress he needed and deserved.

Well, I sure as hell will not let that happen again. I will do my part. I’m VOTING BLUE NO MATTER WHO.

    You do what you want.

    20
  21. Julie B says:

Nancy in il. There is no other deli.

    21
  22. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Rhea, thanks for the stats and the link. Without a doubt without cataclysmic change, it’s doubtful there will ever be an acceptable snacilbupeR in my lifetime; and I still have a lot of years ahead of me. 😀

As I promised months ago, I will vote for Hilz. But I am not as patient as the African Americans and Hispanics by any stretch of the imagination. Gun my family member down in the street for a phony tail light violation or deport my family member and yes, I’d be looking to another party that day.

Not saying I’d jump all over Hilz and the Dems day #1 or even day #180. Just saying my patience is not infinite. Obviously, I know the snacilbupeR will not deliver, but neither have the Dems, including the “Glory Days” of the ’60s.

My premise is that for an effective third party is simply we need to organize sooner and not be merely a ‘spoiler’ to either of the 2 entrenched parties. 2020, we’ll be in it to win.

    22
  23. Nancy in IL says:

No, JAKvirginia@19, I quit drinking the koolaid that both parties are peddling.

The wikileaks DNC emails substantiate the accusation that the DNC was behind Hillary from the git go. Statistics show that the Dem primaries were rigged. If the DNC was truly interested in winning the election fairly, they would nominate Sanders, but they aren’t going to do that, are they?

Did you know that the missing 28 pages from the 9/11 Commission report were released recently? They show unequivocably that the Saudi government (not Iraq) was providing operational and financial support to the hijackers. Why do I bring this up? Because the Project for the New American Century, before 9/11, made it their goal to go to war with Iraq, then Syria, then Iran. Think Hillary won’t go along with that?

Have you read or seen Clinton Cash? I haven’t yet, but I’ve heard it connects the dots on pay for play between foreign governments, the Clinton Foundation, and Secretary of State Clinton. She’s a lawyer and a bright woman. I don’t buy the excuses regarding her email server, and the lies she told about it. I do not know how you can support someone who would no longer be eligible for a security clearance for president if she wasn’t a Clinton. It boggles my mind.

Yes, I will vote. The Green Party is on the IL ballot, and I would vote down ballot anyway. But don’t worry — Hillary will use every dirty trick, legal or not, to be president. And, remember, they said Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we ever had, so good luck with Hillary.

    23
  24. PKM, before you go off with the Greens, better check who is financing their petition drive in Texas. Last time is was a friend of Karl Rove. Many think Nader gave us GWB.

    24
  25. Chloe Bear says:

Rhea, I would love Steney to be the Whip but am afraid Nancy will not give up the post but she should. Note, I am most biased and love Steney.

    25
  26. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Crone, Nader did not produce Dubya. As a lackluster candidate who failed to carry his home state and NH, Gore did that with a little help from Dubya’s corrupt brother, a corrupt attorney general, FL sec of state and the robed morons of SCROTUS. Sandra Day O’Connor, proving that snacilbupeR women are nearly as corrupt and obtuse as the men.

    26
  27. Nancy in IL, to borrow from another site – Please be advised that Rainbow Bus Lines has discontinued service to Unicorn Street.

    27
  28. Nancy, your comparisons are inapt. This is an election, not a luncheon.

We have two viable choices for President: Clinton and Trump. One of them will win. One of them will be President. You don’t get to choose from another menu.

If you don’t vote for Clinton, then you help Trump (at least in swing states). You have the right to help Trump, but I genuinely can’t understand why you feel proud to do so.

    28
  29. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Hey folks, please. Remember even Loathsome Ted could be right once in his lifetime, “vote your conscience.” It’s fine to encourage other commentators to take a look at their down ballot races, etc. Who knows? If they get to the polls, they might even decide to give Hilz a suppressed vomit vote. But, treating others poorly or acting as if they didn’t know their own mind is counterproductive.

Trust me on this. Not here, but elsewhere I have been called a “Bernie Brother” among the ‘nicer’ names. Enough slander and disrespect to make a guy forget promising to vote for Hilz.

So, please. Be kind, be inclusive and work for your candidate(s).

    29
  30. AliceBeth says:

Would everyone quit trying to get Elizabeth Warren a new job? We need her full focus in the Senate.
I think Jennifer Granholm is a great idea. I watched her 2012 convention speech on YouTube today….what a woman.

    30
  31. I’m madly in love with Jennifer Granholm and Donald Brazile. Either would make a wonderful DNC chair, but I lean towards Donna because she experienced, smart, tough, funny, skilled, etc. Jennifer is slightly less experienced nationally, but she gave an awesome speech at the 2008 convention. Her show on MSNBC was outstanding too.

I would like to know of anyone who thinks that 25+ years and millions of dollars spent trying to make them look bad wouldn’t be successful.

Hillary has been the victim of an upprecedented smear campaign the likes of which has never been seen before. Other Secretaries of State have used personal computers/servers. Other Secretaries of State have served when state facilities, including embassies, have been attacked and suffered many more fatalities. Other presidents have cheated, very likely in the Oval Office, and been supported by their wives. Other first couples have endured the suicides of friends and colleagues. Other Senators voted approval of the attack of Iraq.

In all these things, and any others you can think of, what is different in Hillary’s case? She is Hillary Clinton and a real Vast Right Wing Conspiracy has worked since at least 1992 to destroy her and President Clinton.

Those are the facts of Hillary Clinton’s public life.

    31
  32. Polite Kool Marxist says:

From Howard Fineman (HuffPo), an excellent analogy of Donnie Drumpf. Howard set the history with what our Founding Fathers envisioned, a country where they would be attacked by neither a mob or a monarchy, both of which they feared. Per Howard, the Founding fathers did not foresee Donnie Drumpf, a sordid combination of mob and monarchy.

BTW Melania was maligned for lifting a speech from FLOTUS Obama. Yet Ivanka received a pass because what, age? elocution? not an accent? when she lifted a few planks from the DNC. Really. About that childcare, when did that become Republicon or Donnie?

Again, about Uday and Qusay, those ‘fine’ fellows with the hunting skills of a Darth Cheney. Shooting caged animals for ‘sport’ seems a bit unmanly to me.

So yes, Howard is correct. A Drumpf monarchy combined with the basest of the Republicon base aka a mob.

    32
  33. Two pieces well worth reading. The first is a list of what we could lose if Trump wins the White House and the second is enough to give you nightmares.

  34. JAKvirginia says:

Nancy in IL: Nope. You’re still sipping at the cup.

I haven’t got the time nor will I weary the people here with a point-by-point takedown of what you’ve said. It sounds as if you fancy yourself as well-informed so allow me to assist in that viewpoint.

    “Clinton Cash”.
    Author: Peter Franz Schweitzer.
Breitbart News Senior Editor at Large.
Also, author of “Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy”.

(I hope I need not have to explain the significance of that information.)

And there are some rather scathing reviews of his book out there (Newsweek). But I only had about ten minutes on the web to research. Many of the sources that come up defending and praising the book come from Breitbart who, by the way, was a major supporter of the movie (and his employer), or some other right wing organization like National Review.

Hope I’ve helped in keeping you informed. And I hope your search for the “perfect” goes well. I might, though, caution you to look deeper than the surface as you pursue that goal.

    34
  35. Just read a piece in the WashPost saying that Clinton would have to give a convention speech proving that she’s the best person for the presidency.

No, she doesn’t. She just has to prove that she’s a better choice than Trump, because now he’s the only other option.

    35
  36. JAKvirginia says:

I am in error. The author of “Clinton Cash” is Peter Franz Schweizer. (No “t”.)

    36
  37. Elizabeth Moon says:

Purity Politics sucks large granite rocks and its followers pat themselves on the back for being so, so morally superior to everyone else.

Now that the Purity Police have put on their halos and strutted around in their glittery wings, they will fly back to Cloud-cuckoo-land so they don’t have to mix with us common folks and our eeeeevil ways.

Nonetheless, anyone who can’t see any difference between Trump/Pence and Clinton/Kaine is wearing a blindfold. Really helps to keep that “We are the holy ones” thing going if you never catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror.

Reality: Nobody’s perfect. There is no human born who will be the Perfect Answer to All Problems, wave a magic wand of wonderfulness, convert all the mean people into nice people, create peace and plenty all over the world. Not Bernie Sanders. Not Jill Stein. Back in the day, not Ralph Nader. So fly away to Cloud-cuckoo land and pat each other on the back and greet every mistake of everyone else with self-congratulatory hooting. You’re not part of the solution, partial as it will always be.

    37
  38. JAKvirginia says:

Thank you, Elizabeth Moon! I am saving you comment.

    38
  39. Ed Cooper says:

Rhea,. Best to never forget that WAPO is the home office of both-siders, and will go out of the way to maintain the horse race meme. After all, it will sell clicks and Bozos is all about profit over responsibility.

    39
  40. Ed Cooper says:

Nancy in Illinois:. What Elizabeth Moon said, with large bells and whistles!

    40
  41. Nancy in IL says:

I teach critical thinking skills and logic, and yes, I feel fairly well informed. Do you all know what an ad hominem fallacy is? Unicorns and rainbows my ass.

I am considered a kind person, but right now I am truly hoping you remember this exchange when the FBI indicts the Clintons for the crap they’ve pulled with their foundation.

Thank you, PKM. I was going to hold my nose and vote for Clinton, but not after the way the DNC rigged the primaries. And that has nothing whatsoever to do with thirty years of Republican conspiracy theory.

    41
  42. Nancy in IL says:

And by the way, no, no previous secretary of state had their own email server. Did you know the state department had to relax their server protection to allow her emails in? That, yes, confidential files passed through her server, and that her lawyers who had no security clearance were given the task of deleting non-work related emails (and thus had access)? There’s more, but I’ve said enough already, sorry JJ.

    42
  43. “I was a Democrat for 40 years, but no longer.”

well Nancy, if you’re so blind you can’t tell the difference between Trump & Clinton, there’s really not much to say, because I have to assume you’re a hopeless cause. so, go back to unicorn mountain, and have tea with Stein & Nader.

    43
  44. JAKvirginia says:

Nancy in IL? I know how to use the Google!

Your first comment here was in Jan. 2016. You said something about cows.

Your next comment was in May 2016. You introduced us to #NeverHillary and said you were tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.

Your next comment was… on this post! Wow. Thanks for your participation.

And I don’t mean to be unkind… but I smell Trump Troll. And I suppose it’s no coincidence that the movie “Clinton Cash” opened on July 24?

    I call that interesting… wouldn’t you?

    44
  45. I loved Tim Kaine’s reaction this morning on the TV. I now know there are no agnostics in the national committee of any political party just as there are no atheists in foxholes.

As for those Dems who claim to be repelled by the party nominee, let us know how in the world you can get rid of your sense of smell in order to vote for anyone else.

    45
  46. Ahem! Post script: come November 8th we will NOT be voting for the prom king, queen and court. This will be an adult experience way beyond high school. In short, calling all grown ups, calling all grown ups . . .

    46
  47. Lunargent says:

    Debbo – great post!

Everyone, there are far more important things to spend our energy on than bashing. Though there’s certainly nothing wrong with sincere efforts to educate.

    47
  48. AliceBeth says:

Nancy in IL, I understand a basic concept….whoever gets the most votes wins. There are two candidates now, if people decide to not vote for Hillary….Trump will get more votes than she will. I simply do not understand people who say they support Sanders are not supporting his decision to vote for Hillary. He understands that there is nothing more important than keeping Trump out of the White House. Refusing to vote is not admirable, it is ignorant and it is childish.

    48
  49. Beststash says:

Progressives are desperate for someone to represent them. Not only Dems but many Independents are fed up with the status quo that represents Wall Street and the Military Industrial Complex. Wars/Inequality are destroying what is left of our civil society. Time for real change. Fear and loathing seems to be the only answers. I think Hillary made a mistake not nominating Bernie as her running mate. Young people are the future – time to represent their interests.

    49
  50. Marcia in CO says:

According to the conversation on Morning Joe this morning, it seems a vote for Trump is also going to be a vote for good ole Vlad Putin … it seems the Russians are coming, the Russians are coming … to the White House. The Donald looks to be latched on to Putin’s backside and it has become increasingly apparent that it was Russian Hackers who brought the DNC emails to light!! Bringing about the stepping down and away from the DNC for DWS.

I’m voting for Hillary and everything and everyone BLUE. And, as JJ so succinctly puts it: If you don’t like it, you can kiss my big blue butt!! So there!!!

    50
