He Only Wants to Destroy the Constitution Because He Loves It

It’s really not one step short of secession.  It’s actually one neuron synapse from total delusion.

Governor Abbott has himself a whole new constitution.

His big thing is allowing states to have more power. I’m kinda amazed that a Texan would say that.  Wyoming has a population of 584,000 and would have the same power as Texas with 25,000,000.

And I’m sure he doesn’t want to go by population because one glance at an electoral college map would scare the pants off him.

The only damn reason that Republicans have any power at all is because of gerrymandering.

But, y’all, admit it.  It’s kinda fun to watch old white men try desperately to hold onto power.

Thanks to every for the heads up.

Gotta love it—we listen to years and years of conservatives, claiming that liberals want to destroy the U.S. Constitution. But in the end, it’s nasty little Greg Abbott and a right-wing “think” tank that wants to use the Constitution like toilet paper. And why? Because the Supreme Court didn’t decide a couple of cases the way Abbott likes, and the fact that there’s a black guy President. More solid evidence that this country is headed toward another civil war.

  2. Mark Schlemmer says:

The stories I have read about Abbott and everyone else in power down in Texas make me shudder for you folks who live there. All that aside, this picture makes me think he must have the BIGGEST mouth in the world. Not an attractive man, on so many levels. Creepy.

    2
  3. Is it a stretch to compare this Abbott to another comedy team of Abbott and Costello?

    3
  4. Off topic, but interesting to me that Abbott is never ever shown in his wheelchair. Always photos from the chest up.

    4
  5. Juanita, seems I recall you saying before the election that this man would make Rick Perry look intelligent (almost!), or words to that effect. He is an embarrassment at every level. How can anyone vote for a person whose campaign slogan was “I get up in the morning and then sue the president?” Jade Helm, marriage equality, etc., followed by this. I assume he is historically challenged, completely unaware of the Articles of Confederation. I see little hope of ridding ourselves of the pox named Abbott, Patrick, Miller, Paxton, et al. What a mess! Don’t even get me started concerning Dan Patrick and Allen West. Beyond belief – and they are allowed to control the debate!

  6. Annabelle Lee says:

Am I wrong in thinking that two-thirds of the states can ALREADY change laws? It’s called an Amendment, yes?

    6
  7. This is what you get when people don’t vote. You can’t fix stupid.

    7
  8. @Dennis
It’s scary to know that out of our last 3 governors, George was the smart one.

    8
  9. JAKvirginia says:

Why yes, Annabelle Lee. You are correct. Apparently you did something that Abbott didn’t; you’ve read the Constitution! There are provisions for amending it. But A-butt wants to do more than that. He wants to have the states able to nullify anything Fed gov does. So, of course, comes the question; then why have a Fed gov at all? Why have a UNITED States of America at all? These REPUBLICANS of all stripes are hell-bent on destroying this country. Know that! Know that no matter what they say, no matter what they do, they want to destroy this country.

    9
  10. Polite Kool Marxist says:

A-Butt is such a special snowflake. Instead of governing Texas, he chooses to mess with federal law(s). OK. Let’s play, Greg. While I wholeheartedly support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), I’m willing to make an exception for a special snowflake like you.

Someone, when he’s not looking, remove the ramp he uses. Let it come as a surprise to him, when he flies off into empty space. May the force be with you, when you land, Greg.

    10
  11. JAKvirginia says:

Mark J: Please excuse me but I’m in a snarky mood:

“Always photos from the chest up.” Yep. And those parts don’t work too well either!

(Yes, Mama. I’m going to my room now.)

  12. SallyinMI says:

Funny. I just saw a wheelchair photo of him yesterday-first one I’ve seen.
He and Snyder ought to go on the road: How to Destroy Perfectly Good States in Four Years or Less. Snyder can do the seminar on poisoning black cities while blaming the federal government. Both can handle the Convincing Voters that Right to Work for Pennies is Healthy for them. And ALEC can make an appearance too: How to Stop Women from Voting-Ensuring the Permanent GOP Majority.
I tell you, these guys are evil incarnate.

    12
  13. SallyinMI says:

Oh, I forgot the best one: Overturning the Will of the People during a LameDuck Session in three easy steps-that one is all Snyder.

    13
  14. read the comment to the article by russell watley sr.. it is a classic! anyone here have the same problem besides me?

    14
  15. Sam in San Antonio says:

Best comment: “Why do people that hate government run for office so much?”

    15
  16. This idiot has no idea what he is talking about. Call one of these and you can bet your bottom dollar all of what he wants WON’T get passed and a whole bunch of shit he DOESN’T will. DER.

    16
  17. George Wallace comes to mind. He was another governor who sought to disobey federal law and I believe that Abbott should be treated like Wallace. Send in the National Guard, yes, but prosecute him and Alabama judge Roy Moore for sedition.
They would make great jail bunk mates, but Abbott would have dibs on the lower one a’course.

    17
  18. as noted above, we tried this way once before, right after the revolution. The Articles of Confederation were basically what the Gov. wants. it didn’t work then, it won’t work even worse now.

    18
  19. Funny how he seems to hate the federal government so much but is so willing to accept the benefits that it provides.

He’s happy to take all the federal funds that multiple military bases bring to his state. He’s happy, personally, to take advantage of the legal protection that the ADA has provided to him (thanks for bringing that point up, PKM). And he’s happy to put his grubby hand out for federal money when a natural disaster hits Texas.

I could go on and on, but the flaming hypocrisy is making my head hurt.

    19
  20. Not so much fun to watch old white men desperately holding onto power, which they then abuse.

Note that when any right-winger talks about the Constitution (or the Bible or, for that matter, God) they are talking about the version that they have created for themselves in their own small minds.

    20
  21. WRT Abbott and the ADA: He argued against it while he was Texas AG. Probably because he is rich and can pay for accomodations himself if he really needed to.

He is rich because he became paralyzed when a tree fell on him and he sued the landowner and landscaper. He now gets several thousand dollars a month tax free. He’s got his, so screw everyone else in a wheel chair.

And in case you were wondering, yes, he has also argued for tort reform.

Because it’s okay if you are a Republican.

    21
  22. This sort of thing, like the yahoos in Oregon, always makes me envision a snotty kid yelling, “You’re not the boss of me!”

    22
  23. Lunargent says:

He is also one taco short of a combo plate.

I’m so sick of these feckless idiots. They don’t believe in government. So instead of working at governing, all they do is play at politics. And the work of the people doesn’t get done.

    23
  24. Marge Wood says:

My friend from Arkansas took a spell of wanting to move back to Austin. During her recent visit here, she spouted, “WHY do things keep getting worse? Are they ever going to get better?” and that was the end of her notion of moving back to Tayuksis.

    24
  25. Craig Waters says:

    Dear Miss Juanita,

You know that this isn’t going to help Texas. The man is obviously already running for president. Glad to see that the Texas Nut Factory is still in production.

    Craig

    25
  26. Rhea, I’m in total agreement. When I taught third grade an eon ago, that was a pretty common comment, especially from the boys. Odd how they never threw that jive at the school principal. Back then rowdy kids got paddled! And no one sued. For that matter, if they didn’t get paddled, the parents objected to them being coddled!

    26
  27. Linda Phipps says:

Think about it: if we really do choose up sides, it’s not going to be a “civil war” it will be an “uncivil war”. Here in Virginia, we had a choice between McAwful and Cucciroacha, (or ABC, anyone but C…) we held our noses and voted in McAwful. He’s not that bad, except for his proposal to set tolls on I66 which would mean for those in Fairfax County would either pay like $16 to go to Costco the short way or take the back roads. At least he’s not being like the idiots in Texas and Wisconsin and Michigan.

    27
  28. @Linda Phipps, I always thought of him as Kookinelli. Glad he’s gone. He was a pain in the patuchus even on the other side of the river.

    28
  29. Abbott loves the Constitution the same way Christian Grey loves Anastasia Steele.

    Shades of Abbott.

    29
  30. e platypus onion says:

“Why do people that hate government run for office so much?”

Simple really. They want the chance to make it so gubmint so obnoxious and egregious everyone will want to get rid of it. Then they can have their theocracy.

Remember the independent council law that wingnuts hated(after Watergate). They claimed Dems used it to attack wingnuts, then they themselves abused the law so badly going after Bill Clinton that even Dems voted to get rid of it.

    30
  31. Love the photo, J.J.

    31
  32. Elizabeth Moon says:

They want a Civil War because they think they can win it.

If we don’t want them to win it, there are steps we should take to make sure they don’t.

Elect more Democrats to Congress. Without better legislation, we cannot get better law enforcement, better conditions for our poor and sick, and will continue to have deeper divides between Americans of different races and classes. Also will be unable to force the FBI to look hard at white, right-wing domestic terrorists.

Quit being wussy about the use of force on domestic terrorists (bc they are the biggest part of domestic terrorism.) For instance, it’s a serious problem that white secessionist groups are neither serveilled or confronted adequately (see my previous comments about Cliven Bundy–and of course his son & others in Oregon) because this encourages them to recruit, collect money, and grow stronger. It is ridiculous that the FBI does much more surveillance of minority (like Black Lives Matter) and liberal groups than the over-armed right-wing militias and KKK–pretty much proof that they’re not the right agency for the job.

Support the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, which really IS about religious freedom and helps military personnel being hassled for not being right-wing evangelical Christians protect their right to be Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, Wiccan, Buddhist, Atheist, whatever. To win a Civil War, if one comes, we need a military that is committed to the *real* Constitution, to an America that is diverse and tolerant and understands these are worth fighting for. The right wing has worked for years (since ‘Nam–and it started before that) to make the military right wing and one flavor of Christian.

This is all scary stuff–but if we do not prepare for the possibility and are caught flat-footed, we will not like (and possibly not survive) the conflict. At this point, the right wing has so degraded our image with the rest of the world, that having a Civil War here is likely to invite intervention from someone we REALLY don’t want. At the least, trade and investment will go down the tubes except for very self-interest motivated activities.

    32
  33. No. It’s not fun.
