Happy July 4th

July 04, 2022 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I hope you had a great weekend. It’s a tad hard to celebrate independence right now.

I don’t do this very often, hardly ever really, but I want all Texans to see this article written by James Moore who just happens to be one of my favorite Texas writers.

I know, I know, it’s long. But, its so damn well written there’s nothing I would cut from it. Pour a cup of coffee, read it, and see if Governor Death doesn’t move your soul to help us beat this cruel, heartless, and foolish man.

For you folks from foreign states, please know what Republicans have in mind for Texas.

Be social and share!

Thanks for this. I was planning a post today to put under the Friday toons, but this is a more appropriate space and subject.
First, the article is an excellent recap of what a horrific politician Abbott is. I really can’t add more except much of what’s wrong with this country and the state of the Republican party nationally is manifested in Texas. But Texas is not alone which brings me to what I planned to post. Walking my dog this morning and seeing more American flags than normal made me think how much I miss the US of A. We are not that anymore. I miss being able to travel to other states and find pleasure. Now, I can’t imagine going to other states such as Texas, Florida or even the state I grew up in, Idaho. It’s not welcoming anymore and I miss that terribly, but what’s worse is what these states are doing to their own citizens. And the SCOTUS is reinforcing that. It’s become the SCOTununited states, almost a foreign country anymore. Nothing I can think of to celebrate this holiday. Sorry to be so negative.

  2. Reading this makes me almost glad to live in Kansas now. When I lived in Austin (1958-1965) there were actually some Democrats in charge.
    Beto better win.

The ribs are in the oven, the potato salad in the fridge, and the ice cream in the freezer. It’s an absolutely beautiful day in DC (low 80s and low humidity) and the Nats are losing to the Marlins—again!

My dread over the possibility of the Rethugs taking over Congress and stripping DC of what little home rule we have now is palpable.

So, I will indulge in good food, good drink, and good friends and keep the good folks in Ukraine and Texas in my thoughts, while I try not to feel so damn helpless.

We miss lots of things about Texas (dancing, BBQ, good TexMex food) but we don’t miss the repression fostered by the GOP/Southern Baptist Church.

In Wisconsin our Democratic governor is the only thing that keeps us from moving in the direction of Texas.

When are businesses going to start leaving TX? I know we states in the northeast are trying to woo them. I’d certainly discourage any students from attending universities in red states or taking jobs there.

Alabama’s Governor MeeMaw pales in comparison to Governor Death.

Oh, Texas! You deserve better than this. Your Republican government has, as it has in other states, wasted your money, failed to improve your living conditions, failed to adequately educate your children, and done its very best to limit your right to vote. Please, stop them before they, under the leadership of Gov. Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, make the lives of so many of you still worse. Vote the Democrats into office.

    Go, Beto!

  14. Thanks, Sandridge@12. I’m wading into their site.

I assumed that since I disclosed my email to subscribe to several other Substack sites, maybe Substack shares email addresses among all their members.
