Guts and Gall

January 20, 2021 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I saw with both my eyes Kevin McCarthy stand in the statuary hall of the Capitol and give a gift to President Biden, who he does not even recognize as the legitimate president.

That is gall.  McCarthy wanted the privileges of office. He lost that right when he said the election was fixed.

Hot Mic McCarthy? Is it too late to investigate him for his collusion with Dana Rohrabacher?

I was so hoping some FBI guy would hustle into the scene, handcuff and arrest McCarthy and hustle him right out of there. No such luck but I am sure Nancy is working on some proper reward for his treason.

The Sedition Brothers, Hawley and Cruz, both showed up and sat on the platform. And I saw a chair marked “Gov. Kristi Noem.” I can only assume the post-inauguration lunch is spectacular.

  5. He has a nerve, as my mom used to say. As do Cruz, Hawley, and Graham. Traitors the lot of them.

It’s the usual Inauguration thing to have a joint session lunch with the new Chief Executives, but it’s not happening this year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Too risky. In one way, it’s too bad–it might have been fun to see all the supporters of insurrection have to sit together, because nobody wanted to get anywhere near them.

Considering how many dems they intentionally infected, I’d seat them on the veranda for lunch.

And everyone else inside, where it’s warm.

We know it wasn’t his soul or integrity. McCarthy sold those to Trump 4 years ago.

thatotherjean @8: thank you for that image; the little kids’ table at Thanksgiving, where the squabbling and selfish adults can be sat. Make their lunch table about 8 inches shorter than the adults’, and make their chairs short enough so that their knees come up to their chins. Give them string cheese, gold fish crackers, and sippy cups with apple juice.

Of course Biden has too much dignity and graciousness to do that. Which is why he should have put you and I in charge of the arrangements!

    11
  12. Elizabeth Moon, I’ve been going with “Greed Over People” for a long time, but “Grift Over Patriotism” certainly seems appropriate!

  13. Today a gentle man became president……hooray. And don’t cross our lovely new VP….she is a good strong force!

I understand that some persuasion research indicates people performing tasks incompatible with their beliefs wind up making their opposition much less salient and can even change their minds.

Here’s hoping the Biden Administration has some people looking in depth at the various research groups around the government, finding out what the psychologists have said about getting former enemies to cooperate. I think some tenets in the mind of some “Republicans” are more pernicious and persistent than battlefield enemies.

  15. Unbelievable scene. My first thoughts were:
    Biden: Marlarky !
Harris: See you at the hearings

While we celebrate today, let’s not forget the face of the repugnantican party. See the attached picture from raw story. This is the face and personality the repugnantican party continues to pander to. Seems like state repugnantican party leadership wants to continue putting their future on the line for the likes of this guy. Seems whacko to continue down the road they’ve chosen.

Then in contrast we have the road 81+ million democrats and independents chose to go down with the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Glad we’re on that road tonight. Cheers!

  17. Jane & PKM says:

President Biden could/should be celebrating with our wonderful First Lady. Maybe he will later, he deserves to relax a bit today and tonight with all the work ahead of him. But unlike someone whose name we hope to never hear mentioned unless it’s in a sentence including Leticia James, with little fanfare and certainly no self aggrandizement, President Biden has signed a quality range of Executive Orders. Too old? Meh. The next ‘Con that says that should be sentenced to a day on the range with my Grandpa.

lol My keyboarding suck. But it is a pleasure to spell out President with a capital P again!

To our added glee, Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors presented Vice President Harris with a special Madame VP 49 jersey. The VP is the 49th Vice President of the United States. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2927522-stephen-curry-gifts-custom-warriors-jersey-to-vice-president-kamala-harris

  18. Immediate action with Executive Orders is awesome.
But our new administration just did something unprecedented. They had a spokesperson go into the press briefing room and take questions. From the press. AND THEN SHE ANSWERED THEM. It was almost as if she was trying to act as though the administration had decided to communicate it’s intentions in a manner that didn’t limit the number of characters in each message/answer. Almost as if they’d started their term with the unfathomable notion that they held themselves accountable.
    TO US!
    It was kinda confusin’.
    Surely it won’t last.
I’ll be sure to check Twitter tomorrow to see if things have gone back to normal.

Speaking of Guts and Gall — heard an NPR interview today with Rep. Young Kim, a freshman Republican representative from Orange County, CA. Beyond being an excessively talky interview subject, I found this thought pretty gutsy: she was one of 17 first termers who signed a letter to President Biden, explaining a few areas of common interest, and saying Biden’s Administration would need to work with them in order to be “bipartisan.”

They are freshmen — in the minority — in the House. Beyond that, as Ari Shapiro of NPR pointed out, some of the 17 were among those voting NO on certification of the election — and to the best of my knowledge, had not issued a statement of acknowledgement, let alone congratulations, to President Biden and VP Harris.

    19
  20. WAPO reported that McCarthy was not included on the list of dignitaries in attendance that Biden cited. They also had a great pic of McCarthy sitting all by himself.

“As he opened his inaugural address Wednesday, Biden rattled off a list of notable attendees — but one name was conspicuously absent.
While the president mentioned the other top congressional leaders by name, he did not mention House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. The California congressman was among the GOP lawmakers who voted to reject the electoral vote outcome in Pennsylvania and Arizona, just hours after a pro-Trump mob violently stormed the U.S. Capitol in Washington.
“Chief Justice Roberts, Vice President Harris, Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, Leader McConnell, Vice President Pence, my distinguished guests, my fellow Americans,” Biden said as he began his remarks.
The prepared text of Biden’s speech also does not mention McCarthy’s name.”

    20
  21. Steve from Beaverton says:

McCarthy was a member of the congressional inaugural committee ( believe there were 6 members) which is probably the only reason he attended.
Amy Klobuchar was the co-chair with McConnell and spoke.
    At least McConnell applauded.
I did notice McCarthy hung around the Oval Office while President Biden signed executive orders. Guess he wants to be relevant still.

    21
  22. thatotherjean says:

In some cases, it’s a shame that hypocrisy isn’t lethal. If it were, Kevin McCarthy’s head would have exploded when he gave that gift to President Biden.
