Governor Tonedeaf

The weapon of choice at the Santa Fe High School shooting was a shotgun.

As of Sunday morning, Gov.Greg Abbott still had his newest contribution contest on his website.  If you’ll donate $25 to Greg Abbott you have a chance to win a … shotgun.

They took the picture down last night after a mess of shouting, but the contest is ongoing.

And he’s got campaign literature touting it.

There is an old saying in Texas about totally uncouth people.  It says —  he’s the kind of man who would talk ropes at the home of a man who was hung the day before.  Meet Greg Abbott, the most uncivilized man in entire state of Texas this month.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

Be social and share!

  1. I can think of a good use for that shotgun. It’s even Biblical. But Abbott hasn’t got the guts to do it.

I expect nothing better from an NRA prostitute like Abbott. Same goes for his simple-minded cohort, Dan Goeb Patrick.

  3. My first thought on reading this was (probably) correct, the only shotgun I know of ‘made’ in Texas is the “Mossberg Maverick” series, a low-priced version of the Model 500 pump-action, mostly produced in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and final-assembled in Eagle Pass, TX.
Abbutt’s website gives a value of the lottery prize as $250, which is quite low end for a shotgun and fits the “Maverick”.

Why is this ironic? Mossberg deliberately set up the Eagle Pass, TX Maverick shotgun plant to take advantage of the “Maquiladora” trade system, which allows manufacturers to set up plants just across the border in Mexican towns, employing (mostly) Mexican workers, and paid wages far below US averages.
These plants use mostly Mexican materials and parts, import some raw materials from the US and elsewhere. They manufacture the bulk of an item, the item is shipped to an adjacent US town on the US side (in many cases), where it is finished and maybe packaged.
All in pursuit of getting the lowest labor cost possible.
Millions of US manufacturing jobs were lost to this scheme. The Repukes beat the Democrats over the head constantly on this issue, but they just love the whole labor-shafting plan.
This was all set up when NAFTA began in 1994, we did a lot of maquiladora-related work back then.

This ‘contest’ just shows, again, how stupid the average Rethug voter is.
Here’s TX Gov. Abbott, getting mileage and street cred from, and blatantly making it sound ‘patriotic’, to give away a low end, low-wage, produced mostly in Mexico, shotgun, and making it sound like a homegrown Texas product.

  4. Thank you, Sandridge, for that. That was very enlightening and disgusting at the same time.

As I said on FB, Proof he does not really care. Clearly Congress does not care because they could do something.

  6. TexasTrailerParkTrash, thanks.
I was speculating a bit (some gunnut will probably try to rave about it), but that make and model fits.

Abbott’s contest is not actually giving away a shotgun, it’s giving a ‘certificate’ good for $250, redeemable at a ‘Central Texas gun store’, which could be anything from the Buda Cabelas to some small shop near the Capitol I guess. The only gun that fits is the Maverick though ($165-250 per the Wiki).
The ‘ad’ promo pictures above show two very different shotguns, the top might be a Maverick, the bottom one has to be pure marketing hype. That second picture shows the break of a fancy over-under shotgun, which are always extremely expensive guns ($2,000+), and unlikely to be ‘made-in-Texas’, most come from Italy.

    Abbott’s new campaign slogan:

“Shotgun Greg” Abbott: ready to be fired!

  8. Jane & PKM says:

Seems the addiction to NRA cash is more powerful than an opioid addiction. After major gun tragedies it is asked, “when will they do something?” Some posit that as soon as an issue becomes personal with them, the snacilbupeR will act. Personal? Could it have been more personal for Steve Scalise than being shot in his a$$? Yet he’s still a Republican’t.

The kids have it right. These morons have to go, if we want change.

  9. I don’t know if this has been mentioned before (I’m in Hawaii about 11 miles from caldera explosions and lava flows, so not reading everything here at the Salon these days), but if the Republican leadership in Texas believe that doors are the culprits in school shootings, Democrats need to start running a “Show Them The Door” campaign.

    9
  10. Dunno, but for all their preening about bein’ Christian an’ all, advocating child sacrifice seems, oh, sorta unJesuslike.

    10
  11. maryelle says:

Thanks to John Walter for the “…ready to be fired” witticism and to Rick, dodging the lava, for the “Show Them the Door” idea.
Seems as though as the midterms approach, we Dems will need
all the clever slogans we can muster, along with the integrity and character to change what’s going on in D.C.

  12. Kin Jung Un’s shooting off his missiles always seemed like a stunt of public masturbation to me but, hey, if ya got em, flaunt em. Now comes Governor Abott’s picture with that bigazzed shotgun- ready, willing, and able. He’s one virile sumbitch too.

  13. oldymoldy says:

“Show Them The Door”, clever, concise, to the point!

  14. Linda Phipps says:

A very too close for comfort to Abbott’s goofiness is Dan Patrick himself, though I did wrongly attribute the “abortion” reason for the shooting to him. It’s not just Abbott who is “tone deaf” it seems half the country is as well.

  15. I am old enough to remember when Puerto Rican nationalists shot up some people on the floor of the House many, many years ago. They all survived and the shooters were nabbed and jailed. The saying then was that of course NO REAL American would ever do a mass shooting. Sardonic laugh here and that’s it. This ***** is way too terrible to laugh at.

  16. Old Fart says:

“…he’s the kind of man who would talk ropes at the home of a man who was hung the day before.”

That is a most vicious metaphor for the kind of blithe inanity (inhumanity?) that we have come to expect of the 2nd Ammomendment (is always) right crowd. And 45 is their guy…
