GOP Abandons Representative Government

May 12, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Corruption, Lie, The Big Lie

About an hour ago, House Republicans, on a chickenshit voice vote chose to oust Liz Cheney from leadership for her failure to embrace The Big Lie.  In doing so, they have chosen fealty to a criminal former president over the people they represent. In a fiery speech yesterday, and apparently again this morning, Cheney is unrepentant and continues to blast Republicans for their embrace of Trump and his lies.  As you would expect, the caucus actually booed her.  That’s right, on the House side of the US Capitol, Republicans actually loudly booed one of their own as she chose to speak truth to lies.

When she came out of the meeting, Cheny told reporters that she was going to do “everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets near the Oval Office.” She went on to say, “We must go forward based on truth.  We cannot both embrace the big lie and embrace the Constitution.”

I’ve never liked Liz Cheney or her war criminal father; but in this particular case, I admire her strength and steadfast principles.  I don’t agree with most of her principles, but in this case she’s done the right thing, and I personally applaud her for it.

  1. You will notice, however, that Cheney and her supporters will not take the step of leaving the GOP to register independent or form another party.

She may reject Trump, but she will vote for every Trumpism policy and all other politicians that bought into the Big Lie.

Well, to be perfectly fair, she doesn’t have many appealing options at this point. She can go down one of three roads. She could go down the Corker/Flake road and simply quit politics altogether. She could start her own party and certainly lose immediately. She could stay within the party and attempt to shape it from within.

I’m with Jefe on this one. I don’t much care for her or her politics, but she is meeting this head on and she deserves some admiration. She will almost certainly be primaried and out of the House by 2022. Maybe she can mount a presidential run and at least stay in that primary long enough to make some noise.

Are we all having a collective ” enemy of my enemy” kind of moment?

Food fight on Aisle Q. GMTA – seems the WMDBS is hearing undertones of Liz Cheney having future territorial ambitions like maybe 2024. That should be entertaining. In lieu of debates mud wrestling featuring performers Liz Cheney and Nikki Haley.

A voice vote. Not even the cojones to go on record. “Chickenshit” is too kind a word.

  6. You know the political world has gone crazy when you are rooting for Liz Cheney.

  7. The GOP is committing suicide. Cheating Stacey Abrams was a bad mistake – it left her free to go all over the country to get out the vote for the Dems. Ousting Cheney leaves her free to attack the trumpists from the right, & pull sensible GOPers away. The stupids that are lowering our national collective IQ – there are not enough of them to keep the trumpers in office afloat. I don’t agree with any of Cheney’s policies, but I appreciate that she’s not willing to sell her soul for trump.

I know, right? Never did I imagine having any sympathy for Liz Cheney, let alone rooting for her.

Liz Cheney has lied her way through lots of stuff; the fact that she doesn’t like this particular lie doesn’t mean she won’t lie again. She and all the other Representatives have to get out the vote in 2022, I can’t see myself voting for any GOPers. Maybe they’ll even be a drag on Texas state politics; I’d love to say So Long Greg, Dan, Ken, Sid, George P. . . .

  10. I don’t have much sympathy for Liz, either. She went along with and voted for the policies of the other guy with the rest of the GOP for four years. She knew what was going on, but wouldn’t or didn’t have gonzas to oppose it. Would I trust her? Nope. I’d never vote for any Republican. But I still appreciate in the end she wasn’t willing to sell her soul to Trump.

The elephants are killing their own. I hope the Dems and Biden take advantage this.

Her statement was forthright for all that it was surrounded by Reaganolatry and nonsense about god. So every Republican can be asked to pick up that marker.

  12. Apropos all this incivility and criminal stupidity by the trump ass kissers, at least 12 people have decided, this early in the year, to “retire” from their House or Senate seat. Yup. They are mostly Republicans, the likes of which we will never miss.
