Go Into Training Before You Come

September 06, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I spent way too much time picking out my clothes and getting my toenails painted blue and not near enough time on physical training for this convention.

This stuff takes muscles and feet. It’s easily a mile walk to the arena from where the bus drops you off – uphill both ways – and then another half mile walk once you get inside, which North Carolinians charmingly refer to as “just 20 blocks right up there.”

It’s hot, muggy, and there is lightning.

And then there’s this —

Oh my goodness.

I do not want to love this stinker of a man, but I do. Lord help me, I do. This morning they are telling me that 40% of his speech was extemporaneous. And that’s why he’s the Big Dog.

We got back to the hotel at 2:00 am and had to be at breakfast at 7:00. Nobody was late and everybody was smiling. It’s a damn great day to be a Democrat.

I promise some more great stories when I get home. Somebody remind me to tell you about football for girls.

I am the happiest exhausted woman you know.

Be social and share!

I was so relieved last night that Clinton was scheduled late enough for me to make it home from choir practice and get settled on the sofa. I was riveted to that cushion for the 3/4s of a hour that he was up there! Also made it home in time to hear Elizabeth Warren.
There were so many lines I loved in that speech, but the one about how “brazen” R/R was a major winner. I understand that was an extemporaneous portion of the speech.

  2. AustinHatLady … I loved Bill’s comment: It takes a lot of brass to turn around and blame someone for what you did yourself!

Bwahahahaha … Love me some Bill Clinton!!

  3. You can sleep next week. This week you are making/witnessing history. I’m so pumped I haven’t slept in 2 days either. I can only imagine the power in the arena last night. What a thing to be able to tell your grandchildren. So proud and a little envious of you.

    3
  4. You are right, I, too, am damn proud to be a Democrat and an American.
Was Sandra Flukes speech as good as it sounded on the internet?

  5. Lorraine in Spring says:

Looks like a grand ole time in Charlotte. Can’t wait to hear what President Obama comes up with after hearing Michelle, Elizabeth and The Big Dog speak. He sure has his job cut out for him tonight. Dang, how deep is our bench?

Glad your having fun but, my eyes are getting tired playing Where’s Juanita?

    6
  6. Diane: Sandra was good! Old RushBag didn’t know he was making a Democratic Star! Karma’s a beautiful bitch.

  7. Angie Dunn says:

Sandra Flukes was nothing short of AMAZING!! I was so proud of her when she stood solidly against the UGLY, STUPID, CRAP the right was slinging at her (EXTRA EMPHASIS ON THE STUPID)

    So now I’m torn….MICHELLE & SANDRA 2016 or
    MICHELLE & LIZ 2016.

  9. The republicans have their “STAR” Clint Eastwood and Democrats have Bill Clinton.

    Sad.

  10. Sam in Pearland says:

Clint’s talk with the chair reminds us how many stools are in the GOP.
    Have fun Juanita.

  11. PDiddie –
The Onion in its attempts at humor, I presume, has really shown how far out there it is. But taking that tack will as sure as day follows night allow the “followers” to try to make something out of yesterdays news. Just watch. Anything to preserve a faulty mindset, and avoid todays reality.

    12
  12. Well, there was some good economic news today and I hope Mr. Obama will talk about it. You know, for anyone who can’t grasp why turning the tide after two unfunded wars, the Wall St. frat party, jobs being sent overseas and the Republithugs’ hijacking of the U.S. House of Representatives might take more than three and a half years.

    13
  13. Shame on me. I haven’t watched any of the doings. I liked politics a lot more, when it was more about public service, and not about money.

I will watch tonight to hear the President of The United States…….. and his acceptance speech.

    Stay well, Juanita.

  14. Still rocking and rolling from last night. Sandra Fluke, thank you – remember when Gloria Steinham started, she was Fluck’s age – YIPEE – Young Women GOTV, it is YOUR TIME and YOUR TURN~

Elizabeth Warren – America’s SchoolTeacher in Chief. Excellent, most excellent.

Then, after the The Big Dog growled with a smile, it brought back every single horrid thing the RePigs had done to him and Hillary over the past 20 years and went on to take his hammer and pulverize the RePiggery to dust.

RevAl put it best: Elvis and Bubba showed up~

We must GOTV, straight Yellow Dog ticket all the way.

  15. ‘Walking Dead’ not just a TV show? Walk thru it, yer my eyes-and ears! Remember!

  16. @Eykis…. I gotta tell you.. I decided not to “Tweet”. I also decided, after I first looked at “Pinterest” maybe six months ago…… and “requested” an invitation to join…….. that, after they finally sent me one…. a few days ago….. to decline that.

Much as I enjoy my computer….. I don’t have the luxury of spending the day…… at the keyboard. Dog, cat, house, yard, and car, take up a lot of time.

I’ll try to keep up….. by dropping by here as often as I can.

I understand. I am only here due to recent broken ankle and I work weird hours these days~

  19. I am still marveling at the clarity with which Bill Clinton spoke last night. He put everything in such a way that *anyone* listening could understand. I woke this morning for the first time in a long time actually hopeful that the country will be all right. Seeing how petty the tweets by Rinse Whomever were shows that they don’t have anything substantive to dispute. Some won’t be swayed no matter what; but there has to be a lot out there that were convinced that the Democrats are the way to go!
Have any of you seen this?

Beware, it will provoke violent giggling!

    20
  20. Jan, I sooooooo agree with you. Of course, I love Bill like no other but this was the absolute best speech he has ever done and it was thrilling…. mesmerizing….. and totally Bill in all his glory. Geez, what a night!!!!

    21
  21. Lorraine in Spring says:

@Jan Thanks for the link. I never saw the follow up between the media & the veteran. That part didn’t make me giggle, it broke my heart. That man served his country and that schmuck Romney looked him dead in the eye and admitted he will deny him his civil rights because of who he loves.

That both disgusted and saddened me.

    22
  22. Jan, THANK YOU that was wonderful!!! I am forwarding this link (as I do many of the links I encounter here) to all of my frineds.

Last night left me thinking, what a pitty the Republicans couldn’t get a former President to speak at their convention

    Oh, wait…..

Clinton still has it. He’s the only guy I know who can talk like a Policy Wonk and not only make you like it, but make it sound authentic at the same time! In fairness, Elizabeth Warren has a similar gift but I did say guy. And let’s face it unscripted Clinton kicks unscripted Eastwood’s behind any day and he did not even have a dang chair! Come to think of it, Clinton’s speech was just like Eastwood’s speech, except it was focused and filled with information.

He is an amazing speaker, I had to laugh when Patton Oswalt commented, “That subtle throat-sob when Clinton said, “I love this country” = Hendrix setting his guitar on fire” Honest to goodness, you can tell he spent some time listening to preachers testifying when he was just a young Bubba back in Arkansas.

The man was brilliant, totally in his element. I loved it when he started talking about the national debt: “People ask: What new ideas did we bring to Washington? I give a 1 word answer: Arithmetic!”

He then goes on to point out that Republican economic policy quadrupled the debt in the four years before he took office and doubled it after he left office. Bill says, “It’s arithmetic! We can not give the reins of government to someone who will double down on trickle down.” Honest, I could listen to Clinton say the word “arithmetic” over and over again – I kept having this flash of the chick in the Indiana Jones Movie who wrote “I love you” on her eyelids.

All of which has me wondering, if Al Gore had deployed Bill Clinton like Obama has, would he have won so many states that they would not have been able to steal the election?

PS – Susan, now you know what I meant when I said you needed to know how to hoot with the owls and soar with the eagles if you are going to be a Delegate. I slept an entire day when I got back!

I love Bill Clinton. Still treasure the time my husband and I were at a party and the conversation turned political. My husband informed the crowd we were democrats. One man stood up and asked, “You voted for Bill Clinton?” he proudly stood up and replied, “Twice.”

    24
  24. Can’t wait to hear more! We are living vicariously through you.

  26. @Jan. Yahoo News has one of the better, if not the best, writeup on our Big Dog’s speech. Read it here:

    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/bill-clinton-makes-case-obama-034027507–election.html

But I couldn’t stop thinking, while reading it through, “Has everyone forgotten that Bill Clinton was a Rhodes scholar? He’s a damn smart cookie!”

    27
  27. My goodness Susan. I can’t figure out what number to dial to get 9-1-1 much less spell or define extemporaneous, so I remain a failure at understanding what you just said… and I fail to see why you hold Slick Willy at arm’s length.

Bill Clinton done good while in office. The economy rocked and my paycheck actually paid my bills. Bill got a blow job from a bimbo who didn’t have the sense to keep her mouth shut… pun intended, but so what? Hillary and Bill managed to kiss and make up, and Hillary is the only one who had the right to judge.

Willy’s speachifying was spectacular… as was Jennifer Granholm’s and Bob Kerry’s. Even Joe Biden hit one out of the park. If we can get enough people off their dead derrières in November we just might be able to hold the line for another 4 years. What happens after that is anybody’s guess.

    28
  28. Robin Frazier says:

Bill was friends with preacher Grandpa in Hot Springs. I know he got some from him and other Southern preachers. They don’t wear watches.

  29. fenway fran says:

I was watching the monitor while he was speaking. We were all cracking up at how much he ignored it. Tonight, Barney Frank went AWOL off the script and they finally turned the thing off, HAHAHAHA. PS Bill is a master at putting together an off the cuff speech, Barney, well, not so much.
