Get a Job
I haven’t said much about the whole Ann Romney / Hillary Rosen thingy because I think it’s manufactured hullabaloo.
Hillary Rosen said that Mitt Romney should not rely on his wife about economic issues facing women. I agree, and apparently so does Mitt Romney.
But video from earlier this year, aired today on Up w/ Chris Hayes, shows Romney campaigning on the proposition that meaningful welfare reform should require parents with children to get out of the home and into the workforce. Responding to a question at a town hall event in Manchester, New Hampshire on January 4th, Romney described his position on work requirements for welfare recipients as governor of Massachusetts.
So, only rich women should be stay at home Moms?
I , too, was a stay at home Mom for 15 years, raising almost as many boys as Ann Romney. Never during that time did I have to worry about paying for their doctor’s visits or fretting over paying the grocery bill. I have the deepest respect for women who raise children while having to work outside the home. I had it much easier than they did. I know that. I admit it. Yes, it was hard work to get dinner on the table but I didn’t have to do it dead tired after working all day.
Romney talks about his flip before he flopped.
“I wanted to increase the work requirement,” Romney said. “I said, for instance, that even if you have a child two years of age, you need to go to work. And people said, ‘Well that’s heartless,’ and I said ‘No, no, I’m willing to spend more giving daycare to allow those parents to go back to work. It’ll cost the state more providing that daycare, but I want the individuals to have the dignity of work.’”
The dignity of work? Did he just say that his wife never had the dignity of work?
If Ann Romney does not realize that she had it much easier than a woman raising children while having to work to food on the table, then she is delusional. You’re not a victim, Ann; you, like me, are very lucky.
And then there’s my continuing battle with the Catholic Church —
Once again we are offered proof that the Catholic Church is not pro-life. They are simply pro making women be baby machines.
Hey, Catholic League, who do you think takes care of all those unwanted children you seem to quit caring about the minute they pass the fetus stage?
Thanks to Deb for the heads-up.
