Gassman’s the Name; Kinky is the Game
Dude, I think you’re a little too interested in your granddaughter’s sex life.
Iowa state Rep. Tedd Gassman wants to stop divorce in his state because he’s convinced that daughters of divorced couples are more likely to be sexually active than other girls, and By Gawd, his children divorced. So this is the Save Gassman’s Granddaughter From a Life of Tawdy Affairs Act.
You cannot kid about these things. These people are dead solid perfect serious.
Speaking about his granddaughter, whose parents recently divorced, Gassman said, “There’s a 16-year-old girl in this whole mix now. Guess what? What are the possibilities of her being more promiscuous? What are the possibilities of all these other things surrounding her life that a 16-year-old girl, with hormones raging, can get herself into?”
Can you imagine that poor girl having her hormones in the official Iowa state records? I think she should be given a truckload of money, get to change her name and move to another state.
So, here’s Gassman’s bill. (By the way, you cannot make fun of this man’s name if you are under 12 years of age and you ain’t so don’t even try.)
[No divorce] except in cases of “adultery, physical or sexual abuse, imprisonment or if one partner is missing for more than a year or the couple has lived apart for more than two years”—because “[i]f our families break up, so will this nation.”
Dude, it’s your kids who are breaking up. I’m sorry your family is so intent on destroying America and turning teenager girls into promiscuity.
By the way, the day that Mr. Gassman starts talking about teenage male promiscuity, I will be vaguely happier with him than I am now.
Thanks to Carl on the frozen tundra for the heads up.
Sounds like he’s projecting.
1Don’t you just love how the right wingers need all of us to live our lives according to their “righteous” rules? I smell something rotten. Pun intended.
2I would pay $5 cash on the barrelhead to watch a video of the Gassman family gathered around their table for Thanksgiving Dinner 2013. Break out the sweet syrupy red wine and let the good times roll! (Offer only good if the ex who broke up the marriage shows up, with or without a date)
3Photo looks like an accomplice of Al Capone.
4Scottybeamer, I would not buy a used car from this man.
5Hey, Gassman, ks sunflower here. My mother divorced gthree times before I left for college. Guess what? I didn’t date until I was in college, and even then didn’t become promiscuous. Have been married for almost 42 years and we’re hoping to make it 42 more (though, the odds may not be with u s death trumps desire, they say).
Anyway, my mother had a rough childhood,; her mother abdandoned her on the doorstep of her paternal grandmother and her father ignored he even though he lived only two blocks away. So here’s my point: sometimes (more often than not) kids may not feel loved and have the confidence to choose the best mate.
My step-Dad (the man who raised me) used to say “Any damn fool can marry, but it takes courage to wait until the right person comes along.”
He and my mother did divorce onece (my mohter’s idea) , but got back together and stayed married until they died in their eighties.
Not saying bad parenting is the root of divorce, but if I were Gassman, I sure would look to see my own doorstep was clean before pointing the fingers and making wild conclusions. Just my opinion.
6Can you imagine what that 16-year-old has to face at school? Talk about a prime target for verbal bullying. What is this guy thinking? I hope she gave him holy h**l and told him to buzz off. I see trouble for that relationship.
7*sigh*
I apologixze for all the typos, but am using my new tablet and the keyboard is so small and touchy. That’s my story and I am sticking to it.
8I guess I’m MORE curious about Gassman’s background but not that much. ks sunflower, I gave up on my iPad but my family enjoys it. I love the stories that pop up here.
9There is no bottom to the crazy-stoopid pit.
10JJ, your closing sentence kinda puts a light on things, doesn’t it?
11He’s from Sioux City, epicenter of embarrassment for the rest of us in the state. The Dutch Reformed (as in, circa 1570, “hey, you’re gettin’ too liberal. Let’s turn the calender back 500 years to the Dark Ages) Church calls the shots there. Perhaps y’all have heard of Rep. Steve King from the same area. He’s near as batty as Loopy Louie Gohmert.
12After waxing eloquent over the sex lives of 16-year-old girls, Gassman asked for a glass of water, a handkerchief to mop his brow, and a place to sit to catch his breath.
13You either want smaller government or you don’t.
When are these guys ever going to learn: You can’t have it both ways!
14Was Louie out Louied?
15Let me tell you how it will be
16One rule for you another for me
‘Cause I’m the Gassman
Yeah, yeah, yeah I’m the Gass-man
It probably foes without saying that people should call up a friend and say “Hey, what do you think of this idea. . .” before running your mouth in front of people. As mark Twain said “It’s better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you’re an idiot than opening it and removing all doubt”.

18Duck tape. Remember that useful tool of the bush administration?
Republican women need to duck tape closed the mouth of the nearest male republican.
19It would be a service to our country.
He uses the future tense verbs regarding the possibility of promiscuity. As if it could not have happened already. I’ve got news for him. . .
20Fortunately, as with many bad ideas whose time has come, this bill has been tabled.

On researching this news, I was abashed to discover that Gassman represents the same little northern Iowa farm community where my immigrant ancestors settled back in the 19th century. Thank heavens my father left there at an early age to seek his fortune elsewhere. I wonder whether there’s any brainpower left there any more, either among their state representative or the people who elected him.
21Wait, what? This old goat got up – in public and as part of the legislative record, no less – and said *WHAT*?! “What are the chances of her becoming MORE promiscuous”? Just how promiscuous are you implying she is *now*, Gramps?!? Can y’all just imagine this poor girl’s embarrassment? Something like this is more than enough to throw some confused and despairing kids over the edge and into suicide attempts. Or successes, sometimes. What an utter ASS!
Oh, and ‘pologies JJ and fellow Patrons, but part of me will be ever and perpetually 10 years old. And that part’s snickering.
22This guy, like so many Repugs, has sexual fantasies that he tries to roll over onto the public at large. All of these guys need the most extensive and intensive therapy they can get, including ECT. I swear!
23That poor girl. MORE promiscuous? No wonder this idiot raised a child that couldn’t cope with marriage. Projection is not a recommended parenting skill.
24I’d love to give this guy a root canal, sans anesthetic.
25In a public forum and on the record Gassman said things about his granddaughter that are probably more damaging to her than her parents divorce. If he were called on it, he would say he was misquoted or he misspoke; in either event he too stupid to be in public office.
26Gassman’s daughter got the divorce & her daddy ain’t too happy about it. His statement about the bill being an attempt to strengthen families by keeping “fathers in the home,” speaks volumes about his son-in-law.
He’s from Scarville, a tiny town with maybe 60 people & 2 Lutheran churches. Like a whole lot of major churches, the Lutherans are split between conservatives & liberals. A load of right-wing religious folks live in that area who have gained political ground in Iowa through churches intent on kicking liberals to the the curb, including Iowa’s Supreme Court.
27Not sure about those Norwegians in Scarville! This January, its former mayor (42) was sentenced to 30 days in jail, probation, fine & $18,000 restitution for theft of city funds. Not to outdo the mayor, the city clerk (34) was also sentenced to 30 days in jail, probation & $22,000 restitution. Now don’t go off about “crazy men” because both city officials are women.
28With a grandfather like this I suspect the girl won’t have anything to do with men for a long, long time. Ideally she should choose to be a lesbian. I mean, it is a choice per the radical right.
29Please note that’s Tedd, with 2 D’s!
30It is my sincere hope, that this man’s grand daughter, and he both, will live long enough for her to be able to humiliate
31him equally as much, or more, than the embarassment he has caused her with this idiotic statement.
If I were that 16-year-old I’d have already contacted the Democratic Party and volunteered. And maybe had a tee-shirt made up reading
Grandpa Gassman is a Fool!
and put it on the internet (or intertubes as some Repub called it.)
32Speaking as a child of divorce, I’m damned sick and tired of blaming divorce on everything. And no, I wasn’t promiscuous; been married 43 years to the same man.
Gassman, take the forty-foot plank out of your own eye before you claim you see a speck in someone else’s, and if you don’t know where that came from, read that Bible you sound like you’re so fond of.
