Fun With Guns: The People of WalMart With Guns Edition

June 18, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that WalMart is the Ground Zero of gun accidents, which is another reason not to go to WalMart.

It’s Indiana.

A Dale man was arrested by Jasper police Sunday morning when the handgun he was carrying in a front pocket discharged while he was inside the Jasper WalMart store.

JPD says 65-year old Kenneth Pirtle told them he placed his hand into his pocket to retrieve and article when the .40 caliber handgun discharged. Police say the discharged bullet exited Mr. Pirtle’s pant leg, struck the vinyl/concrete floor and then richocheted up and lodged into a nearby wall.

Police later determined that other articles in Mr. Pirtle’s pocket with the gun might have played a factor in the handgun accidentally discharging.

What other articles?  His copy of the Constitution or the Collected Works of William Shakespeare?  My bet – it was beer bottle opener, a large pocketknife, a pen he stole from Social Security office, and sixty seven cents in change.

Be social and share!

JAKvirginia — HA! Too bad that gun shot didn’t take care of the need for a condom. But, alas, I dream.

I’m glad the bullet bounced off the floor into a wall instead of into another customer.

Apparently most of these “ammosexuals” who carry their gun everywhere still haven’t figured out that the gun should be secured in a holster or hard case–it should not be carried loose in a pocket, waistband, knapsack, etc.

    I wouldn’t trust these guys with a battery-powered weed-eater.

Carrying a loaded gun, all set to go, in your pocket is not an accident. It is willful neglect and should carry a penalty far worse than this
guy obviously got. Blaming it on the “other articles in his pocket” borders on the absurd.
This guy should not be able to go near a gun for the rest of his incompetent life.

  6. Oh, but he has a “God-given right” to have a gun in his pocket. So say, for instance, Scott Esk of Oklahoma and the Texas Republican Party.

Inasmuch as guns had not yet been invented when the Bible was compiled, and since the Bible is mostly about obligations and limitations and not “rights,” I fail to see how these bozos arrive at “God-given right to own and use guns.”

  7. Back when the West was a lot less Wild, revolvers were normally kept with the hammer on an empty cylinder to prevent accidentally firing. If one carried “six beans in the wheel” it meant he was a professional – if his weapon went off, it was not accidental.

Even if we granted them status as ‘militia’ re 2nd Amendment, they’d still flunk the ‘well-ordered’ requirement.

  8. A fellow I was working with about 20 years ago, who was in his early 60’s at the time, told me that he carried a gun with him EVERYWHERE he went. [emphasis his] My only comment was to ask him just what he had done in his younger days that he was so damned afraid of everything. His reply? Crickets. I never did get an answer from him.

At least the police are going to charge him with a crime, unlike the Columbus, Indiana police who let the numbskull go who dropped his gun in Walmart, the bullet striking a woman in the arm but thankfully missing her infant son in her cart.

  10. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Rosemary, this latest fool got lucky with his irresponsible errant round. Thankfully, the shoppers around him were not injured.

But it does give greater credence to the theory of the wienie disadvantaged doing that whole substitution thing with guns. Consider, gun in pocket so many times and they are not neutered. Fool in Georgia nicked his alternate head, round exited via his butt and no serious damage.

For real, “At least five American men have shot off their penises since 2010.” With all those pocket packers taking dead aim at their own region and missing, who can take argument as to the microscopic size of the target?

  11. Marge Wood says:

Elizabeth, that IS interesting, the idea of carrying a gun being a “God given right”. How come they think that right is from God but not believing in global climate change? (“It ain’t in the Bible so I don’t believe in it.” an actual quote.)

    11
  12. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Elizabeth and Marge Wood, “God given right”? Now I am really confused. If Jesus and guns are the ‘reason,’ why is it that their omnipotent God couldn’t protect his own son?

Again, as always with all of faith who find comfort in their faith and offer comfort with their faith, I come to you with peace, be you Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and too many good religions and good people to list in one comment.

Am ready to head out on a limb and declare that all believers of faith and nonbelievers can agree on one thing. Lay down the arms and negotiate to end the death and destruction. Today. Now. Take faith in the name of sense and stop the tragic killing here at home and in other countries.

    12
  13. Polite Kool Marxist, I’m going to guess that the right-wing response to your comment would be that Jesus should have been carrying so he could protect himself.

Remind those people that electricity and cars are not in the Bible either. Yet they still use those. I hate the way a lot of conservatives complain about other people making up rules for life and picking and choosing as they go along, while doing the exact same thing themselves.

It would be nice if the gun nuts spent as much time lecturing other gun owners as they do everybody else. If you can’t keep your gun from going off in Walmart, then frankly you shouldn’t have one. Maybe it is time to re-do the 2nd amendment. If those tyrants in the local police can stop unintentional discharges, it is not unreasonable to expect the same of everybody else.

  15. JJ, it was a full set of keys. I’ve seen old guys who never remove useless keys from the key ring but keep adding new ones. No wonder so many of these guys use suspenders! And, yup, he had no business carrying a gun like that. And seriously, I haven’t been in a WalMart since the WMDBS started reporting these incidents even though there is a very upscale WalMart on the edge of a very upscale shopping center near me. It is rumored to be safe. Hah! Who the hell these days believes in rumors! (Snark!)

  16. W. C. Peterson says:

Carrying a weapon with a round in the chamber is just begging for trouble. I wonder how many of those “ammosectuals” carrying military assault weapons of mass destruction are wandering around with a round in the chamber? If they are indeed “locked and loaded”, they should be arrested and jailed for public endangerment with a very high bail set.

Jasper, Indiana. That brings back to mind the story told by one of my friends back at “the university”. Seems he was driving through Indiana near Jasper with a bag of green leafy substance when he passed a police car going the other way. The police car pulled a U-ee and started following him so he panicked and started to eat the evidence. When the bag was empty, the police officer pulled him over, walked up the the window and said “Made you eat it, didn’t I.”
