Fun With Guns: Remembering Dr. King

January 15, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, this is Portland, Oregon.

The Multmonah County Republicans want to hold a fundraiser to honor two men.

Abraham Lincoln: NOT a big states' rights guy

Abraham Lincoln: NOT a big states’ rights guy

Multnomah Country Republicans recognize the incredible time of year we are in. In successive months to start the year, we celebrate the legacy of two great Republicans who demonstrated leadership and courage that all of us still lean on today: Martin Luther King, Jr and Abraham Lincoln.

That’s nice, isn’t it?  I mean, not that either Dr. King or President Lincoln would even be allowed to attend a Republican function, much less want to, it’s nice that Republicans are offering to honor two men who stand for everything they hate.  Right?

Not so fast, Nelly.

In celebrating these two men, and the denial of the rights they fought so hard against, the Multnomah County Republican Party announces that we have started our third raffle for an AR-15 rifle (or handgun of the winner’s choice).

Whoa.  They are honoring two guys – both of them killed by guns – by raffling … of dear God … a gun.  There does not seem to be much honor here.

And their speaker at the Lincoln/King dinner?  Raphel Cruz, the crazy DNA carrier to Ted Cruz.

Has this event been registered at the American Association of Mental Health and Irony Free Living?

Thanks to Ralph for the heads up.

Be social and share!

What are they looking for? Future honorees? These folks have been off their meds for at least a month.

  2. The background graphics on their website make it look like they are based in Hell and not Multnomah. Very disturbing.

    WTH does this mean…

“and the denial of the rights they fought so hard against”

  4. Oh that hole in my head,
The whistle of my leaking brains,
To honor two men who’re dead,
    Of gunshot in their remains.
    The means to create anew,
    Martyrs of hate and cowards,
    Blinded by greed that grew,
    On weapons dealers power.

  5. The irony factor is exploding in Texas! It almost equals the same explosion here in New Jersey as Christie portrays himself as a friend of the common man.

  6. Uncle Dave says:

Back in the sixties, when he was trying to smear King as a subversive, did J. Edgar Hoover know that was a Republican?

  7. Seriously? No, SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!?!??? Indeed, Miz Juanita Jean, Mental Health and Irony Free Living indeed.

  8. Once again, they just failed a mental competency test.

  9. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Holy Gohmerts! The crazies have dropped their racist dog whistles and upgraded to blowing amplified Dixie out their gohmerts. Oregon?!??

    9
  10. So I suppose if they wanted to honor Cruz (either one) they would raffle off an encyclopedia, ‘The Origin of Species,’ and an American birth certificate.

    10
  11. What a travesty and a complete insult to the memories of these heroes.

  12. Marge Wood says:

Listen, honey, when you’re fund-raising for an event like that you hafta take whatever stores are willing to donate. It ain’t easy.

    12
  13. It is happening more often… I am speechless.

Is this what Repubs call humor? I call it sick.

    Good Grief.

Most of the commenters in Portland’s newspaper, The Oregonian, feel the same way, especially considering that the two “honorees” were killed by assassins’ bullets.

My favorite is: “Raffling an assault rifle in honor of Dr. King is like hosting a giant anonymous swingers orgy in honor of Jesus.”

    15
  16. How’s that GOP outreach to minorities working out? This is JUST what they’d want as a tribute to Dr. King.

    Friends:
I threw up in my mouth when I just discovered this information in Juanita Jean’s forum about this abomination about to happen in my own town. Rest assured, I will spread the word far and wide. I will assure them the biggest turnout EVER, but not necessarily one they will be happy about. Everything about this is repulsive and deserves to have a strong light shone on it. I will tell you all about it later.

  18. UmptyDump says:

Good for you, Mark, but the Rethugs may be setting things up for just such a conflict. Don’t let ’em get you arrested!

  19. Mark Schlemmer says:

UmptyDump. thanks. Only as a last resort! This event is listed at being at a Greek Orthodox Church so I immediately wrote them a plea to reconsider the use of their facility for such an unChristian purpose. Waiting for a response. I also wrote the Multnomah Republicans website and asked them to tell me how this event is supposed to “honor” two men who were killed by guns. Always good to hear in their own words what they are thinking, ya’ know. Finally, if y’all closer at hand to the wisdom of Mr. Cruz, father of YOUR senator would be so kind as to send me links to himself, in his own words, it might make for some most excellent signage to be used at an appropriate time and place yet to be determined.

My husband and I are celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary today…. Martin Luther King’s Birthday was specifically chosen because it was a 3 day holiday, we were both in banking, and could always count on having a long weekend to slip away for a holiday/anniversary celebration. When we married, Skip was a Republican. A PhD Banker Boy in the fiscal conservative/Philadelphia suburban mode. He’s now a raging Liberal, Progressive Democrat. If not a wedding celebration today… let’s celebrate that he’s honoring Lincoln and Dr. King, and being a good Dem, ala wifey. Hip Hip Hooray!
