Fun With Guns: Realenactment Edition

October 19, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

This weekend a reenactment became a realenactment at the, no kidding about this, O.K. Corral.

Yep, in Tombstone, Arizona, they reenact the gunfight with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday taking on some scoundrels.  They claim to have been doing it since 1947 and that they have properly impressed the audiences they draw.

Then, oops.

A reenactment near the O.K. Corral got too real when a Tombstone Vigilantes actor shot himself in the upper thigh on Sunday afternoon, the Cochise County Sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Sure ‘nuf, a live round was is one of the actors’ guns and he shot himself in the hmmmmm … embarrassing.

Everyone claims that this has never happened before and they take all manner of precautions and checks to make sure this doesn’t ever happen but, personally, I think the Earp brother got themselves some revenge on overacting.

Thanks to Claudia for the heads up.

On the bright side, the thigh is a good place to git shot. Only one bone and one major artery to miss.

  2. Yeah much better than a sucking chest wound. Although as a matter of opinion, all gunshot wounds suck, regardless of the body part involved.

  3. The least harmful of all for this guy might have been a head shot since there was little chance of brain damage.

He brought a gun loaded with live rounds to an event where he knew he was going to fire it. He fired five times and wounded himself and a bystander. This goes beyond stupid. But I’m sure they’ll let him keep his guns.

  4. Actually, this is a real mess for the event producers. BUT like all good smart producers they carry insurance. Don’t they?

  5. Here’s the story: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/gunfight-re-enactment-goes-awry-in-tombstone-arizona/ My best friend and her husband used to be members of that group but left several years ago because of idiocy…

  6. Why would you EVER put live ammunition in a gun used in a performance?

Bruce Lee’s son,Brandon, was killed with a gun and a loaded blank. Previous to the scene where he is shot, the crew loaded a cartridge with a live primer,a bullet and no powder. The live primer forced the bullet into the barrel and was never removed. When they actually inserted a blank with powder and primer with no bullet and fired it,the stuck bullet flew out at nearly the same velocity as a loaded cartridge. Lee was struck in the chest and dies after six hours of surgery. The gun was less than four feet fron Lee when he was shoy.

Why do Republicons hate children? Most of the “Wild West” shows are for the entertainment of children. Where are the legislators and law enforcement demanding that yahoo be arrested for child endangerment?

It wasn’t the shooter who was injured. It was the actor he was supposedly fake-firing at. Also put bullets into two nearby business as well as injuring a tourist (hit by shrapnel).

Was a joke once upon a time where the studio used live ammo so they wouldn’t have to waste money paying the extras. It was humorous at that time.

Thanks for the link Elizabeth, but the details sadden me even more. I don’t carry health insurance because I feel in my gut some wacko will blow me away while I’m walking out of a store, or pumping gas, or seeing a movie… sigh.
