Fun With Guns: “It’s a Two-Fer!” Edition
Gun Shows seem to be the most dangerous places on earth.
Last weekend two guys were sitting in a car in the parking lot of the International Sportsmen’s Expo in Utah.
You know what happens next.
One of the men was handing the firearm to the other man when the weapon was accidentally fired.
The bullet struck one man in the hand, ricocheted and then struck the second man in the leg.
The police say it was an accident so no charges will be filed. Had they shot a toddler walking by outside the car … oh well, accidents happen.
Thanks to Deb B for the heads up.
Negligence is not accidental.

2I read recently, could have even been here. A retired military man said you are taught ” there is no such thing as a accidental shooting”. What if there had been a child in the car would we still be laughing ( like me ) at these jerks!
3Some things are just darwinism. Glad a child of other innocent was not in peril. And now another school shooting reported. Apparently a kid called CNN while hiding in math class. Is that the norm now? Kids have CNN on speed dial?
4Maymoon, that was Jim Wright over at Stonekettle Station. Great blog.
5As long as tis country takes such a nonchalant attitude toward collateral damage, we will continue to hear at such things.
6Not a school shooting, a shooting at a school. Some kid opened fire on fellow students, a girl and a boy – apparently not random. The security officer shot (and kille) the shooter.
7People who prove themselves too stupid to handle a firearm should be added to the “No Buy” list. This should include those who “forgot” there was a weapon in their briefcase/suitcase, etc., when they go through airport security.
8There’s a website ( Stonekettle Station) run by an ex-military firearms trainer. He agrees with maryelle and others: there’s no such think as an accidental firearm discharge. There’s only negligence of varying degrees, either in handling, maintenance, or design.
Until prosecutors start filing charges against these fools, this careless behavior will continue.
9RepubAnon, you’re right on the mark: We need to remove the word “accidental” from any mention of gunfire and charge the owner and the holder of the gun with negligence. (If the owner is the holder, fine; if not, charge ’em both.) And they need to cover any cost of care for the injured.
