Fun With Guns: Congressional Edition

So you own an AR-15.  Where would you store it?

North Carolina Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers husband reported that an AR-15 was stolen from their unlocked garage.

The rifle had been left leaning against a gun locker in the unsecured garage after a target shooting outing, according to a police report. The report didn’t indicate whether the rifle was loaded.

Of course, Ellmers is a big Second Amendment person and her website says

Although she believes that gun owners must be responsible for the use and care of their guns, she does not want to see law-abiding gun owners penalized for the actions of criminals.

Responsible?

Screen Shot 2013-10-23 at 10.05.06 AMAnd this is the same Ellmers who voted for the government shutdown but refused to give up her salary.

As some North Carolina congressional lawmakers defer pay during the shutdown, GOP Rep. Renee Ellmers is refusing to do so — and her remarks are drawing the attention of an advocacy group.

“The thing of it is, I need my paycheck. That is the bottom line,” Ellmers told WTVD, the Raleigh ABC station, Wednesday.

But, of course, other government workers didn’t.

You gotta admire Republicans – they are so good at telling Democrats what’s best for them.

Well of course she needs that paycheck, now. Replacing that AR-15 will run her the better part of $2000, maybe more—depending on how she wants her “platform” customized (and no, that’s not lewd language, that’s just how gun obsessives talk).

Yet another Responsible Gun Owner—until she wasn’t. Gotta wonder just where that original AR-15 is, right at this moment…..

  2. When guns are criminalized only criminals will have.. Uh, wait, make that, “You can pry my gun from my cold unlocked garage.”

  3. This isn’t too surprising for NC’s GOP Reps & Senators with churches supporting them like this Southern Baptist church. Its pastor moved from SC to Charlotte to grow a new mega-church using his charisma & Christian rock music, and well, a few books. Now he’s building a huge house from advances for books he’s written or going to write, which he sells through his & other Southern Baptist churches, of course. You’ll soon see his face on national TV as the next gorgeous candidate for national office. Doesn’t he look like a rock star?

  4. Sorry I didn’t explain why this pastor’s house was relevant to this story…

Rep. Ellmers will accuse Dems of stealing her son’s AR-15, and appeal to her loyal followers for money to build a house like this pastor’s complete with an electric gated entrance like his. Otherwise she’ll never feel safe again.

Look at Ellmers’s dazed expression. Does it not remind you of some other Republicans, maybe one named Michelle?

Parents of 12 year old kid in Nevada that shot and killed a teacher and himself will face charges for allowing kid to take gun from home. Maybe this tool should be charged with being a stoopid female, stoopid enough to marry a stoopid, upright, rwnj who would leave an assault weapon in an unlocked garage. Maybe the NRA will hold a bake sale to buy her a new shooty gun with a string to tie on her finger so they don’t forget the next assault weapon.

  7. If ……. big if…… but if…… this gun is used in committing a crime, I hope this couple of second amendment nuts is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Too much trouble to put the gun in the cabinet and lock it up?

Much easier just to prop it up against the thing, and go on about your business. And leave the garage unlocked.

I hope if they have kids, they take better care.

  8. I really don’t want to sound mean – but aren’t her eyes too close together? And isn’t that a sign of something?

  9. Corinne Sabo says:

Her picture makes her look cross-eyed. And she shoots an assault rifle……..

  10. Jean Kuhn says:

Her eyes are close together but she looks kinda cross eyed to me. That may explain all the laughable garbage she spews.

My grandmother said eyes to close together meant someone was sneaky but I think she looks kind of stupid to me.

  11. you just can’t fix ignurt.

    11
  12. Reminds me of the song, Don’t “Walk Away, Renee” (you haven’t locked up that frickin’ gun.) Guess she was just too busy shuttin’ down the gubmint to worry about human life.
    No biggie.

    12
  13. You know, in less enlightened times (like teaparty world) crossed eyes meant you were from the devil.

    13
  14. OK, she has a tiddly bit of a point — oh hell, a microscopic bit of a point – her garage is not a public park or pathway. Its private property. Otherwise, she was just plain damn slipshod in her care of the weapon. Ain’t she gonna be a proud 2nd Amendie if and when that gun is used in a horrible crime. Honestly, there oughta be a law that also includes the careless/brainless gun owner who had something way more important to do than to return the weapon under lock and key. Just like when the arrest and charge the guy waiting in a car if and when an armed robbery turns lethal and he also gets the needle.

  16. I’ve always wondered where these idiotic people think criminals come by their guns when they say that if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. This is exhibit A.

    16
  17. “Leaning against a gun locker” only counts in horseshoes, dear.

    17
  18. e platypus onion says:

Her eyes aren’t close together, she is just narrow minded.

  19. What surprise me is not that the gun was stolen but that this lady actually owns a gun locker.
