Fun With Guns: Airborne Division
What could possibly go wrong?
Sometimes we folks in Texas take neighborhood patrol seriously. Very seriously.
It’s a frightening sight to some Denton County neighbors: an armed gunman in a helicopter, hovering near North Texas homes. A gun range allows target practice from the air; the shooter hangs out of a helicopter, firing close to homes near Aubrey.
The owner of the helicopter charges $795 per person for 15 minutes. Make your reservations right here. He is quick to assure people in nearby neighborhoods that it is very quiet and will not disturb their everyday lives. You know, unless somebody accidentally shoots you. M
It appears that no mental health certification is required for the pilot or gunners. That’s nice because we wouldn’t want to make this difficult.
Thanks to Irene for the heads up.
Is there no end to the madness and stupidity?
1If someone wants to be a door gunner, let them enlist.
2The problem about the statement of fools and money is that it begs the question “How did the fool get the money in the first place?”
Oh, shades of a certain Alaskan shooting wolves from the air! MG, they never quit, do they! All of this takes money and they want to make sure the rest of the penny pinched world knows they have it! Ah, good feelings all around!
And JJ, what about that idiot congress critter and his compadres ginning up another anti-abortion bill and his comments on rape and pregnancy? Another shot heard round the world in the war against women!
3Not to condone violence or anything. I bet shooting back costs less than the helicopter ride.
4Good grief. What is WRONG with them?
5Hope they’re paid up on their mutilation insurance.
6Now, JJ, you’re getting things all confused again.
The NRA wants us to believe the problem is mental health care—which we *absolutely do not want Obamacare* to provide—but then if you say you have to show mental competence before you (a) own a gun or (b) rent out your helicopter to allow gunners to shoot from it, then you’re *definitely* invading their privacy and infringing on their gun rights.
You just write this as if it could make sense even in a perfect world…
Thank you for being so much like Molly Ivins…maybe someday folks will start saying she was a lot like you!
7What could possibly go wrong with allowing gunmen to engage in target training, I mean practice, from the vantage point of a helicopter? There are so many applications in the real world: prison brake outs, bank robbery getaway by air, the list goes on…
8Just what I would want to see in my neighborhood.
9Give these guys credit for doing something both dumb and unexpected. Reminiscent of the scene in the Jackass movie, where the kid takes a dump in the display toilet on the floor of the Home Depot plumbing department.
10You’re forgettin’ that Zombie Apocalypse, Rick.
11What’s the problem? It’s not like shooting ranges ever have accidents, or anything! Besides, the bullets are probably only lethal for the first half mile…
12What happens when they miss & hit someone?
13I’m nominating the first guy that falls out for a Darwin Award.
14$795 and they’ve got to supply their own ammo. Lots of potential for lead poisoning out there.
15Well, if someone is going to get shot, I hope it is someone at the gun range and not some kid playing in his backyard. I also hope the gun range, the helicopter owner and pilot, as well as the shooters have a lot of insurance.
16Does Texas have a “Stand-your-ground” law? ‘Cause if someone in a helicopter is shooting near a house I think the homeowner could certainly argue that he gets to shoot back.
17Oh, Hell No! Is this made up? Today is not April 1st. The military trains for air assaults. Maybe SWAT Teams as well? Why does Citizen Squirrel Brain need to do so?
If I could I’d jerk that chopper owner’s / pilot’s license so fast that he would think that his head was spinning as fast as one of the rotors.
