  1. thatotherjean says:

Rosalynn and Jimmy, VOUCHERS, and Republican Party HQ all get my vote this week, for a three-way tie.

  2. Riffing on the SpaceX-ElonM cartoon [that appears twice]:
Something directly connected to the SpaceX StarBase location at Boca Chica, TX* that Y’ALL can actually do something about!
Musk’s SpaceX StarBase complex near Boca Chica has applied for a permit to dump hundreds of thousands of gallons of ‘treated’ effluent into an extremely ecologically vulnerable small saltwater bay, South Bay, part of the larger Southern Laguna Madre bay complex.
They could very easily pipe this sewage two miles to the south into the Rio Grande River and be done with it!
The main reason that so much sewage effluent is/will be produced is that the StarBase complex has hundreds of people moving into a location that before only had a dozen or so people living in the entire area.

!!! You can each help the effort to stop this huge pollution problem by simply going to a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality website and making a short [or long] statement asking the TCEQ to deny the SpaceX permit!
Hundreds, maybe thousands already have done so [as I have].
Please consider doing this, you don’t have to be a nearby resident to do so.
I’ll give a few weblinks and quotes below.

Here is the official TCEQ citizens input weblink [not easy to find and use from scratch]:

Go to this link [read the instructions carefully, I think that they have intentionally made it hard], input this ‘permit #’ in the box ” WQ0016342001 ” to get the correct issue/permit page, hit the “Next” button, and fill out your info, then input your comment about South Bay, and submit it all. You will receive an email response shortly if they received it OK.

South Bay is a pristine, small, shallow bay at the bottom of the Laguna Madre, with Boca Chica and Brazos Island separating it from the Gulf of Mexico.
It sees relatively little human activity, and is a vital body of water for many different species, plant and animal, many of which are endangered.
I have written about the area here before. It would be a shame to see one of the last truly natural water places be despoiled by Musk’s pollution. Especially when just pumping it a short distance south to the Rio Grande River would be so easy.

    * I used to live nearby, and fished and sailed on and off Boca Chica often, and I navigated both my power and sail boats [Hobie Cat] into South Bay. It’s so shallow that I could only take the Hobie in there when the wind was light, you had the rudders kicking up constantly which is a major problem in a breeze.
See the nautical chart link below for a view of the area.:

  3. BTW: SpaceX just launched Starship2 from the Boca Chica StarBase Friday morning. It was a partial success.
Some of you might have watched or saw news of it.
Yeah, I’m a space/rocket nut, but I can’t accept the crap that I wrote about above.

Here’s a good link about this latest launch from Boca Chica, it has some nice video clips in both the story and the readers comments:

  4. Ros & Jimmy says it all. Cannot even try to gin up the same 77 years with tRump and Melania. Same for all of his co-defendants in any one of his indictments.

  5. Addendum to #2 above:
I forgot to mention that part of what makes South Bay one of very few unique waters in the world is that it is hypersaline, saltier than the Gulf and any ocean, even saltier than the rest of the hypersaline Laguna Madre..
This provides a rare environment for many species, some endangered.

The daily addition of hundreds of thousands of gallons of ‘treated’ FRESHwater effluent into a body of hypersaline water that has relatively little natural exchange* with the adjoining seawater would severely disrupt the aquatic conditions that have existed for hundreds of years.

    * A water and tidal flow study in 1997, by the USGS with the Texas Water Development Board, entitled: “Computed Discharges at Five Sites in Lower Laguna Madre Near Port Isabel, Texas, June 1997” study [link below] measured the actual tidal and other water exchanges in various parts of the Lower Laguna Madre complex. South Bay had relatively little such water exchange in comparison.
