  1. I must admit that the news show where the people of West expressed disgust at the insensitivity of that business is booming cartoon made me wonder how many interviews were not aired.

Even Perry cannot argue with this one. No innocent victims to hide behind in this one, Gover-NOT.

  3. The one with Perry is perfect – made me laugh too.

  4. Ralph Wiggam says:

I live in McLennan County, NOT near West, and I have been shocked by the local reaction. Many people here consider the fertilizer plant owner to be a sympathetic character. When I point out that he broke more laws, killed more people and destroyed more property than the Boston Marathon bombers, I become the villain.

Apparently killing for religion is OK if your religion is Capitalism not Islam.

I’m just too cynical for Texas.

  5. scottybeamer says:

Ralph Wiggam……..you aren’t the only one who feels that way, I assure you. I don’t live anywhere near that area, and I can’t imagine a single one of them being sympathetic.
We’ll find out just how sympathetic they are when the lawsuits are all announced. I rather doubt sympathy will play a big part in gazillion dollar lawsuits……but I could be wrong. Frankly, I’m really getting tired of hearing about Boston. It’s as though nothing else in the world has ever happened. Me cynical?………….nah………………:)

  6. You can depend that insurance companies for the damaged homes, apartments, etc., in West will go after the fertilizer plant and owner, in an attempt to re-coop the money they have to pay out because of the explosion. I understand several lawsuits have already been filed. Insurance companies will show no sympathy and shouldn’t in this case.

I’m sure those people who are sympathetic were either not affected or are people who are still stunned and grieving. Anger will appear when they realize that this wasn’t “an act of God,” but was caused by greed and ignorance.

  7. UmptyDump says:

Now we will wait for an outraged Ricky to write the Houston Chron demanding that they fire Nick Anderson, their cartoonist. Oh wait; maybe not. That would cost another Texas job, and the town of West lost too damn many already within the last month. Ricky thinks that if Texas can just get rid of some more of those oppressive safety regs …

  8. My sympathies ya’ll…Even Gawgia isn’t that bad. Butif it weren’t for Atlanta and GA’s large black population voting, we might well be. The wingnuts here woulda loved Perry, and many did, if they hadn’t been hoping for Huckabee and the slithery Newt!

  9. Maggie says:

Ralph and scottybeamer, right after 9/11 I was talking with someone on the phone who was in the middle of the middle of the country. As far as they were concerned what happened in New YOrk City, D.C. and a pasture in Pennsylvania were all east coast “things” and since those parts of the US of A are populated by strange people why shouldn’t they happen there. In sum, a local experience where as the middle of the middle of the country is God’s country and never suffers any such thing. And then came Timothy McVeigh . . .

  10. Corinne Sabo says:

Well, since I had a taco this morning, does that mean I’m not Catholic anymore?
