Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
The ‘toons concerning the Kaepernick controversy are dead on.
1This country not only allows non-violent protest, but needs this kind of action. After the last several years of killings and not much being changed, calling attention to this travesty of justice is absolutely necessary. What better stage to use than the American obsession with a violent game, football. I hope more and more players and fans, both white and of color join this movement. Protests for a woman’s right to vote, Civil Rights and ending the Vietnam War are an integral part of our history and now we all have a responsibility to listen and act for change and the betterment of our country.
Three things:
21) Thanks for taking on the Kaepernick issue. Lots to think about there, especially about what it really means to have the freedom the sit down for what you believe.
2) The “hedge”? What more can be said … it’s so funny because it’s so true.
3) I love the “toons, and am now going to share this week’s link to my select buddies. They all have come to love them, and (though it’s tempting) I always give credit where it’s due. You are amazing. Thx again.
The Dakota Access Pipeline protest is a non-violent protest with Native Americans from across the country gathering at Standing Rock … Indians on one side, State Police on the other side … and more tribes coming in to support this protest to having another crude oil pipeline built to leak and possibly would under the Missouri River! A river that supplies water to MILLIONS … not just to the reservations!
3The Native Americans are being arrested for peacefully protesting against yet another disaster just waiting to happen!! The oil companies have no concern about anyone having clean water … by God … they just want their filthy, crude oil flowing beneath the only good source of clean water some of these reservations have access to!! Check on-line to see just how many of these filthy pipelines are already leaking! It is disgusting!
Marcia in Colo- DAP did not/does not have Corp of Engineers permission to dig on Corp land near Standing Rock Rez and they went ahead and dug anyway. They are not to be trusted on any matters relating to pipelines.
4Marcia in CO: I hear you. Oh, the stories I could tell. I worked for decades in DC as a graphic designer… oh, the things that came across my desk. One biggie for the American Petroleum Institute was a laugh riot. They really don’t see their product or industry as inherently dangerous. Sad.
As for pipelines… I’ve seen them being installed. Single-walled? Wut!!? Not double-walled and insulated? Are you people nuts?!!! Well… when you think crude oil or its distillates are no worse than Kool-Aid then disasters are just waiting to happen.
5It ticks me off big time when someone brings up Mohammed Ali’s protest against the Vietnam War is something different than Kaepernick’s response to the National Anthem. Well as someone who was very much around during that time the idiots all bent out of shape do not recall the vile names and outrage hurled at Ali and by the time the Supreme Court made its ruling real media had exposed the futility of Vietnam. Perhaps if this wasn’t the year of Trump, Tea Party, etc. the response would be less vile but sadly since the election of President Obama the vile racists have been given a “pass” and now it’s their RIGHT to be as vile and profane as they want because no one has suffered the consequences – not the police who have killed innocent black lives, Geo. Zimmerman who flaunts his smug face to the congressman who shouted “you lie” at our President. This election must be decisive, it must tell the outwardly decent GOP they need to bury their racist attitudes for another generation or two. Any person who says they are Republican and does not renounce Trump is a racist and bigot…you can tell any lie you want but those are the facts. I’ve been surprised at people I believed to be intelligent and capable of coherent thoughts are voting for Trump — because HRC has personally killed over 20 people over the years…disappeared them and they refuse to accept these are complete lies. I realized they want/need to believe them so they can square it with their so-called religious beliefs to vote for Trump.
6DAP, BlackLivesMatter, water for Flint, MI; those and so many reasons to sit down and not participate in all the flag waving. Our flag waving Freedumb Tea Baggers need daily reminders of what Freedom of Speech really means.
7Well and truly spoken, Marlene! Booyah!
8Go Marlene!
And hurray for the brave men and women who keep this in the forefront of our media.
9Go Marlene! Rolling Stone has an article about Muhammed Ali, Tommy Smith, (the other guy in ’68, name eludes me?) and Kapernick. It’s very good.
Enbridge wanted to build an oil pipeline through the pristine northern lakes and hills and Indian reservations of Minnesota but finally gave it up. MN’s Democratic governor, Mark Dayton, wouldn’t let Enbridge weasel out of any regulations and environmental approvals. Enbridge’s slimy plan didn’t meet the standards.
The pipeline planned for SD is a grave threat to the Oglala Aquifer which lies beneath most of the central Great Plains. That threat to water supplies is just as severe as the Missouri. Y’all know the Missouri empties into the Mississippi near St. Louis, right? The danger of that damn pipeline to this nation from the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachians and Canada to Texas is enormous!
SD’s governor and Koch legislature is almost, (or is it actually epo?) paying the oil company to wreck the environment. Guess which party I’m talking about? I know, too easy.
BTW, the Oglala and Rosebud Lakota have been protesting the pipeline in southwestern SD too. epo, do you know the latest status on them?
10John Carlos was the second black power guy on the podium. Peter Norman was the white Australian in the famous photo.
Haven’t heard much about the other protestors, Ms Debbo. Paul Seamans does a good job of keeping us informed about pipeline activities in SD.
11BTW, the cartoon of the others not standing is really outstanding.
