Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
In cartoon #3 if you pull the rug off Trumps head,he would look like a prized pink porker at the iowa State Fair.
1LOL @epo … and Joanie Ernst would be right there with her Ball Buster pinchers to neuter him!! Oooooh … ooooooh!!
2I hope Ivana Kuturnutzov has real dull pinchers.
3Can’t help but agree with Trump’s tirade against the GOP,
4“Stupid, stupid people…”. They bought it, they’re stuck with it.
Regarding the Gloria Steinem/Madeline Albright ‘toon. I was a little shocked when I heard Gloria on Bill Maher as was he. She shouldn’t have said it or thought it. But when I was in my 20’s I shamefully was more self centered and interested in finding a mate than voting. These are 2 ladies in their 80’s so please cut them some slack. I’m 62 and already find myself stumbling to find the right words sometimes. And yes Madeline Albright has been saying the “special place in hell” thing for decades. It goes back to a deep frustration and yes anger at the Phyliss Schaflys who told total lies about the Equal Rights Amendment for women that thanks to her and other right wingers failed to pass. Todays 20 somethings have no memory or little to no knowledge of the struggle for women’s rights.
5PS We still haven’t passed the Equal Rights Amendment though it has been reintroduced in Congress many times.
Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.[2][3]
6Lucy, hopefully we can get ERA in the Hillary Clinton Administration!
7I get the frustrations of 2nd generation feminists. It’s a generational thing and in a way, it’s nice. For millenials women have always had the level of equality they enjoy now.
Prior to 1972, Title IX, women like me fought for the opportunity to play sports in high schools. We endured ridicule and even physical attacks. Now we have professional leagues for basketball, soccer, beach volleyball and softball. Women in tennis make $millions.
I feel that us 2nd wave feminists can bask in the glory of achieving all the younger women take for granted. It’s a beautiful legacy. In the meantime, we have to trust these smart and capable young women to create their own feminist legacies.
8That puppy/monkey/baby thing is the creepiest thing, next to the snacilbupeR clown candidates, I’ve seen on tv for ages.
9Lucy and others: The ERA and the Civil Rights Act are both well-meaning but flawed legislation. The only standard for equal treatment under law should be citizenship. There is no need to create a list, i.e., race, gender, etc. If a person born in this country as a citizen cannot expect fair and equal treatment under the law, then the whole concept of citizenship is rendered moot.
