  1. Wow! The cartoon showing Congress as the gun in the hand of the gun lobby is powerful.

    1
  2. The one about when gun control will happen is wrong!
    Example is the ‘Safe zones’ yes they happened but only for the Supreme Count where protesters can not get closer than 30yards. But this rule does NOT apply to abortion clinics!! So when Congress does have a gun battle they will just limit guns to protect themselves and no one else.

  3. All very good messages. But, sigh, Arizona wasn’t helped fast enough today via any wake up call of sanity but just another shooting at a school.

    3
  4. @Jay – Don’t know if this particular Arizona school allows guns on campus since it’s up to each governing board to decide but this is the INTENDED consequences of letting kids carry guns in colleges. Arizona has very lax firearm laws so this is not a surprise.

    Being the smarter Bush is like being the bigger Chihuahua. If you really want to be the biggest dog in the pack, better start higher up on the “big” scale.

  6. Elizabeth Moon says:

    Something I just discovered: in my browser (Firefox) there’s a little search box up top. When I entered Arizona school shooting in that box, up came a list of Arizona school shootings by year. Yup. “Arizona school shooting 2015 (today’s is top of that list), Arizona school shooting 2014, Arizona school shooting 2013…”

  7. If having more guns would reduce gun violence, then logically having more doctors trained to perform abortions would reduce abortions.

    7
  8. Now that toon about gun control happening only after legislators are picked off inside the Capitol . . . years ago during the Truman Administration something like that did happen. Some Independence for Puerto Rico people opened fire from the gallery. They went to jail and boy was country genuinely shocked when they heard about politicians getting picked off on the floor of the House. No jaded reactions then! Also, I don’t remember anyone yelling about gun control or the public being out of control on gun use. It was considered a flat out aberration. And wouldn’t happen again. Boy, were we ever so innocent?

    Want to get lawmakers attention,do this- https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1346&dat=19890613&id=B_EvAAAAIBAJ&sjid=I_0DAAAAIBAJ&pg=6976,9176558&hl=en

    Wingnut Bob Dole seen the light.

    I will be sure to use that logic next time someone brings up gun rights. I’m hoping their head will explode, but a terminal logic loop just isn’t possible with the RWNJ. They just yell Freedom or ‘Merica and start praying to their god.

    As for the cartoons, I’d give my right (insert body part here) if someone would give the bought and paid for congress a taste of their own medicine. Maybe they would unwrap their lips from around the NRA’s barrel for a minute if they were forced to duck and cover.

    I respectfully disagree with cartoon # 7:

    When Gabby Giffords [one of Congress’ own] was shot, I thought, “OK, now they’ll do something.”

    Crickets.

    Then Sandy Hook happened and I thought, OK, THIS TIME surely they’ll do something!”

    Nada.

    How many mass killings have happened since Sandy Hook?
    How many shootings – period – have happened?

    I have no idea as to either number and, I’m fairly certain, most people in this country don’t, either.

    I’ve given up. Now, when some politician – on either side of the aisle, comes on the air and prates about prayers, condolences, moments of silence and all the rest of it, I change the channel. It’s not even news any more – and I won’t participate in their charades any longer.

    11
  12. The hand -Gun Lobby- holding the gun -Congress- was almost right on the money. I think that vise like grip is on a different part of the anatomy.

    @two crows
    I had forgotten about Giffords. Keep in mind though it was the repugs that took out the hit on her in the first place. I’m sure if she had been armed things would have turned out differently.

    14
  15. two crows says:

    @Truely Texan:
    You’re right. If she had been armed, likely more bystanders would have been shot. Or, maybe not. She had no warning and was shot before she would have been able to draw her gun, had she had one.

    Aamof, she had an armed guard in attendance. Among all the confusion, he came very close to shooting the man who had just disarmed the gunman. He said, on the news, that he was very, very glad he had hesitated before firing. The gunman wasn’t severely injured and likely would have gotten control of the gun again in the ensuing scrum.
