Florida: It Makes the South More Southern
The esteemed county of Citrus, on the Gulf side of the Florida appendage, is home to 142,000 souls. And no New York Times.
The county commissioners of Citrus County appear to be all male and all white. The library requested an online subscription to the New York Times. The county commissioners, calling the New York Times “fake news,” denied the request. They thought it was funny that it was even requested.
I will bet that the commissioners don’t have much education and even less teeth.
According to Wikipedia, the citizens of Citrus County can rely on the Groundhog News, Citrus Daily, Real News Real Fast, Sunshine Standard, Citrus Times Online, and the Alligator Bites Vivid Description Report for their important world news. Okay, so I made up the last one, but you would have, too.
God bless Uhmerka..
Thanks to Kary for the heads up.
Perhaps the better citizens could pitch in?
1And they get the big print, small word versions of those estimable periodicals.
2I keep telling people that “Idiocracy” is a documentary.
3Well, I don’t take the NYT either! I take WaPo, so there!
4Shouldn’t that be DUHmerica?
5I live in Citrus County and it is 60% Republican registered voters. All our county workers are Republican. We Democrats try hard but it’s hard to get a foot in the door. The Citrus Chronicle is a good paper and it tries to stay non partisan. They still get accused both ways. The Tampa and St. Pete papers are delivered here daily. It really is a red county with average age about 65.
6My parents lived in Inverness. Dad was shocked that he had to pay bribes to county employees to get anything done. Florida is so corrupt!
7More like God bless Dumbmerica. Jesus, deliver us from stupid.
8They have a library?
9Buttermilk Sky. They have a very nice library and not all the books have been colored. Ran out of Crayons
10My hope is some outraged Democrat will put the NYT on his/her own credit card and start a donated subscription to the local library. It isn’t all that expensive, especially as the paper runs “new subscriber” deals occasionally. That is how I started mine a couple of years ago. I have the e-versions of both the NYT and the Washington Post. After the holidays, I plan to drop my Sundays only plus online subscription to the Houston Chronicle as it has priced itself WAY beyond those other two ESTEEMED, PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING publications. Anyway, I hope a local reader will donate a subscription to the Florida library just to spite those knuckle-dragging Trumpsters.
11Lawdamawcy! That’s just 3 counties north of where I sit!
If I can find eleven people to join me, I’ll subscribe to the NYT and give my address as whatever that library’s address is. Any takers?
12Am I surprised NOPE! from wikipedia ” The racial makeup of the county was 95.05% White, 2.36% Black or African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. About 2.66% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos of any race …” “The median income for a household in the county was $31,000…”
