Election Day

November 03, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, we’ll be staying open all day today.  If you want to email me pictures of your voting locations or activities, please do so.  Ask me for my email address by clicking the Tell Juanita at the top.

I will be in and out all day with my two shifts as a poll watcher (the outside kind) and the traditional drive around the polls with Bubba.  Also, I will be bringing local results on a couple of Zoom rooms for people who haven’t figured out how to use the county’s reporting data.

I have been sitting on some secret internal data of the people who have voted early and I will tell you that it will be close in Texas but nationally, it’s gonna be a landslide.  No reason to take a nap today – James Carville and I say we’ll know by 10:30.  And, this “Trump movement” will last about as long as the Tea Party did.

Above is VeeGee in VT, who says, “I’m a voter in Vermont (safely blue) and have been writing to likely Dem voters since June.  Here’s my last batch of postcards, mailed on 10/25.”

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ms. Juanita Jean Herownself! Your optimism is much appreciated today. We’ll be watching particularly for any trends indicating Donnie is going down and taking the Senate with him.

Democrats win when voter participation and enthusiasm are high. On that metric alone 2020 should be a landslide.

  3. From your lips to God’s ears!

  4. Indeed, you bring joy to my heart this morning. My kids are pretty safe in Juneau these days, and I have forbidden them to even think of coming south, but I have a black grandson and a transgender son up there (he and his wife recently moved north from Seattle), and believe me, I have worried a lot.

As Jake Tapper, chief Washington correspondent for CNN, pointed out, any premature claim of victory would be electorally meaningless, the equivalent of a football coach bragging about having won at half-time. “That’s not how it works and it’s not up to him,” Tapper said in a tweet.

It would seem, based on yesterday’s results and today’s start, that the stock market is Very Happy with the prospects of a Biden win.

    6
  7. The Trumpistas are the shambling zombie of the Tea Party. These astroturf movements will never die as long as racism and the longing to preserve white privilege exist along with the politicians who seek to ride that pale horse to office and people like Koch to line the path with $$$.

    7
  8. Jane & PKM says:

Early yet, but never too early for good news. Exit polls in GA: Jon Ossoff is giving a chicken lickin’ drubbing to Perdue and may win sufficiently big to avoid a run-off.

Jump ball in Alabama, but Doug Jones is at better than 50-50 to beat conspiracy nut and birther, Tommy Tuberville.

    8
  9. Harry Eagar says:

    Here is what I’m watching:

Yesterday’s USC Dornsife Daybreak poll found that 90.8% of Democrats are enthused for Biden but only 80% of Republicans are enthused for Trump?

    This seems significant to me.

    9
  10. It’s a little past noon on the east coast. Has Trump declared victory yet?

    10
  11. CT Sec. of State at midday reporting 75% turnout. Has never seen that much before. I voted in person (arrived at 5:30AM already a substantial line) was in and out in short order.

Also Judge Sullivan is preparing to issue an order for OIG inspectors to sweep USPS processing facilities today that had low processing scores for ballots delivered yesterday — including in Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania — to make sure no mail-in ballots are left behind. @MMineiro_CNS

    11
  12. Here in southeastern Pennsylvania we had record mail-in ballots, but I still saw long lines at two voting places this morning. Hopeful sign!

    12
  13. It’s just after noon and as usual super quiet in this rural neighborhood. (Lots of Trumpers around, but not on this cul de sac.) Two military helicopters flew overhead, kind of strange. CT isn’t usually a hotspot. Our votes were cast and received 10-9 so we’re just chilling. (Literally, low 40s and windy) To avoid election stuff, I’m switching to my work laptop and trying to concentrate on Friday’s webinar. Stay safe everyone!

    13
  14. I’m kinda hoping that the Biden landslide will also work well for Mark Kelly, the astronaut running for Senator and husband of Gabby Gifford. The last I heard he was neck and neck with his opponent.

    14
  15. thatotherjean says:

I’m with Jill Ann at #2. Both of us have already voted, so now we wait. No matter what Trump wants, it’s not over until the last votes are counted–but I’m hoping for a Biden blowout.

    15
  16. Elizabeth Moon says:

Husband and I voted by mail, the day after our ballots arrived in the box. Adult son in Austin, first week of early voting. Our day has been one of getting a car inspected, fixing a toilet, and waiting for the appliance repair folks to come deal with washing machine inlet hoses because we’re not strong enough now to move the washer out of the clever arrangement that happened when I put a laundry sink in.

And prayer. Lots and lots of prayer. “Lead me not into temptation…” kind of prayer because I sure am tempted a lot by what’s gone on and is going on. Marine Corps mentality has not yet aged out of my otherwise aged brain.

  17. Jane & PKM says:

maggie @14, like what we’re seeing out of AZ:

    https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/senate/arizona/

Sorry. Can’t get the AP live link to screen shot. But Kelly looks like a +9. Even conservative newspaper AZCentral: “McSally trailed Kelly in 41 out of 42 publicly released polls conducted this year.”

Differences may be due to same day exit polls which favor GOP in AZ, while the early vote tallies Democratic.

    17
  18. Brad in Dallas says:

Thanks for all you’ve done JJ. You’ve helped keep me within shouting distance of sanity, let me vent, kept me informed and made me laugh. Air hugs and long distance high fives to you ma’am.

    18
  19. We had 3 inches of snow last night.
But 1st presidential election with early voting.
    It was heavy.
I don’t think this little amount of snow will deter anybody.
I guess they got more in the mountains.

    19
  20. Steve from Beaverton says:

JJ, thanks for everything you do for us likeminded folks! This will be my go to place for reading today. I’m talking to myself telling me to remain calm and positive. Not an easy task- just ask my wife.

That’s from the “very stable genius” earlier today.

I’m staying as far away from election coverage as I can; thank heavens for being able to stream Downton Abbey.

    23
  24. Sam in Superior says:

We voted by mail in Sept so it has been a waiting game. Our area of Wisconsin is heavily Blue but is surrounded by a sea of red. We are taking steps to change Wisconsin by voting for Joe Biden now and against Ron Johnson in 2022.

    24
  25. Opinionated Hussy says:

I’m hearing reports of light voting today in our neck of the Appalachians…which is actually good news. Dems here vote early, GOPers on Election Day. Fingers crossed for all our folks up and down the ballot.

    25
  26. So….
What’s with the additional fencing & barricades around the White House? Is Trump paranoid? Or I am the one who should be worried about what he’s cooking up in there?

Rick @26, Orange Foolius has no friends. But we’re holding out a scintilla of hope that as Donnie cowers in the bunker at least one Secret Service agent has an iota of compassion for the fu king moron and lends him a weapon. Hey now, I despise Covidiot 45 as most who are sentient do. But dang, he’s 74, never had a second in his life as a man much less a decent man, so yeah. Can’t begrudge him a final moment with decency. 1x74x60x60x24x365, so yeah, give his foolishness a second. Just don’t forget to scratch back all the money he stole, right down to Messy’s last plastic surgery.

    27
  28. A parody acct on Twitter posted as Beto O’Rourke last nite: ‘i will drop all my nudes if Texas goes blue’. weeeeeelllllll I laughed myself silly. Thought Beto has a really great sense of humor. Then I found out it was a parody acct. Dang. Still hoping Beto sees that as a challenge and is taking lots of pics now to surprise us if Tx goes blue. A girl can dream…….

    28
  29. I don’t have any documentation for this other than that a friend told me, but I heard that Precinct 2 in Philadelphia shut down early because every registered voter in the precinct had voted.

    29
  30. Does anybody know of a good site with live updates on Texas races?

    30
  31. Just got home from grocery store, recycle, and a couple other places. Came right to this site, and may I say the comments here make me very happy. Thanks everyone.

    31
  32. I was thinking about GOP voter suppression yesterday. It’s really a two part process. Part 1 is convincing lot’s of people that their vote is not important. Part 2 is all the things that make it a little bit harder to vote. Taken together, many just don’t bother. While this year’s GOP is hammering part 2 more than ever, part 1 has collapsed. Long lines and pandemics don’t stop people prepared to crawl across broken glass to get to the polls.

The water is receeding from the GOP beach. And that means the tsunami is coming.

    32
  33. Mari,
Just saw the USPS “declined” the judge’s order. Can anyone do that? Hearing tomorrow- hope DeJoy is held in contempt.

Looks good in Texas, so far, have no idea what areas have reported :
    https://apps.texastribune.org/features/2020/general-election-results/

An estimated 50.1% of votes have already been counted,

    Joseph R. Biden 2,987,181 55.0%
    Donald J. Trump Incumbent 2,371,584 43.7

    Mary “MJ” Hegar 2,978,225 51.0%
    John Cornyn Incumbent 2,724,398 46.7

    34
  35. Sandridge says:

I’m headed for an effing MI/stroke/PE/NB… need a drink bad, ah, ice in the glass, pouring in a minute …

    35
  36. I’m actually a lot calmer than I was in 2016. Things are messed up it is what it is and I hope for something good to happen anyway. I’m not sure what I’ll do if it doesn’t. I’m too old and poor to move to another country. And old and tired which is probably why I’m not currently stressing. At least consciously. Under the surface I may well be going bananas. We’ll see based on how I feel in the morning.

    36
  37. And I still say it’s stupid to be talking about it now unless the mail-in votes have already been counted.

    37
  38. Well it’s 3:04 a.m. and Trump has already said that we shouldn’t count anymore votes and declare him the winner. Nevermind there are a TON of absentee votes to be counted because that’s what people did that to avoid the Corovirus. I’ll be SOOOOO happy to see this fool dragged out of the White House by his ears. And sent to the State of New York to face all his lawsuits.

Election 2020 live updates and results: Trump falsely asserts election fraud, claims a victory – The Washington Post

Trump threatened to ask the Supreme Court to intervene in the election process, saying voting had to stop and falsely claiming that by continuing to count votes already cast, the Democrats would be stealing the election. Polls have closed and no more votes are being cast, only tallied.
