Damn Democrats

August 10, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Just when you began to think that there were no Democrats in Texas, along comes our Attorney General Greg Abbott to explain why we keep some around.

In answer to US Attorney General Eric Holder’s charge that Texas redistricting discriminates against minorities, Abbott’s office explains

DOJ’s accusations of racial discrimination are baseless. In 2011, both houses of the Texas Legislature were controlled by large Republican majorities, and their redistricting decisions were designed to increase the Republican Party’s electoral prospects at the expense of the Democrats. It is perfectly constitutional for a Republican-controlled legislature to make partisan districting decisions, even if there are incidental effects on minority voters who support Democratic candidates.

So, the redistricting discriminates against Democrats and, by gawd, it is not Greg Abbott’s fault that minority voters vote Democratic.

Nobody know what Greg Abbott did with the money his momma gave him to go to law school.

Thanks to Kathleen for the heads up.

It kind of fits in with Ted Cruz blaming Obama if the country goes down the tubes this fall, doesn’t it. Just curious. What IS Greg Abbott’s fault?

  4. Actually it kind of IS Greg Abbott’s fault that minorities tend to vote Dem– Abbott and Publicans like him. They’re one reason why I vote Dem too.

Mike–I, too, have yet to figure out why Rethugs act and think like they do. The nausea that comes over me forces me to stop pondering over it! Seriously. Perry, and now Ted Cruz have this sick-to-my-stomach affect on me.

    Ha Ha Ha!

I’d keep laughing, except he’s running for governor of our fair state.

I repeat, if she decides to run, I’ll be working at Wendy Davis’ Austin office day and night.

  8. OK, here it is. Rethuglicans got beat with the stoopid stick for a good, long time cuz I think they liked it! The brainlessness gives them an alibi.

  9. This is the same argument that Grep has been using in both the DC and the San Antonio cases. The DC court did not buy this crap and found that Texas Republicans engaged in intention discriminatio

  11. So let’s register blacks and Hispanics and Republicans, and get liberals to vote in Republican primaries.

Maybe all the white conservatives will switch parties again, like they started to after LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act.

  13. I’m having a trip reading this, Susan. Here’s the point where my mouth fell open; this is their “proof” that the redistricting was not racially biased:

“The district of Congressman Lloyd Doggett–the only white Democrat in the Texas congressional delegation elected in a majority-white district–was completely dismantled in an attempt to drive him from office…The district of state Senator Wendy Davis–another white Democrat–was also altered significantly in an effort to unseat her…Doggett and Davis were treated worse than the black incumbent members of Congress.” [page 24, http://sblog.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Texas-reply-on-Sec.-3-of-VRA-8-5-13.pdf%5D

Wasn’t Senator Davis’s constituency largely minority, though?
