Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.

They are going to lock us out of the room, not allow any recording, and pass it anyway!

Get outraged.

Here ya go.  They approve it nice and quietly.  And another view.

Byron Cook, the committee chairman, is a thug.

Be social and share!

  1. When I read this my stomach clenched and so did my heart muscle and my jaw … it’s like Hell No … OH, HELL NO!!! … it just makes me cry for not only the women of TX but for all the women where these ignorant, asshole men just run roughshod over women!! 2014 is coming and so is 2016 … keep up the power and strength of your momentum and I know there is going to be some serious ass whupping in the very near future in TX and, hopefully, in every state that thinks they can get away with the atrocity of NOT listening to the people and … especially … the WOMEN!! God Bless you Juanita and may He give you the strength to persevere because the women of Texas need you!!

  2. bastards.

    2
  3. I will be giving more to the 2014 elections than I did to 2012 – we have got to have a house-cleaning.

    3
  4. Well, lots and LOTS of expletives, none of which are on Momma’s approved list.

    4
  5. Miss Prissybritches says:

Just emailed that SOB a piece of my mind. Who else was on that committee?

    5
  6. austinhatlady says:

    JJ,
I was there until about 11:30. I signed up as against but not testifying. I’m in the standing-room-only crowd shot on page 12A of the Statesman today along with my friend Elizabeth. Shortly after that picture was taken, moved to the overflow room where it was much easier to hear the testimony. Texted back and forth with SusanF — goodafternoon, Susan! — who got there early enough to get a seat up front in the main room.

Miss Prissbritches: Here’s the committee members list. Please send a strong “attagirl” message to Democratic member Jessica Farrar, who did a great job of questioning the bill’s author, Rep Laubenberg, and revealing what we all already knew: the author doesn’t car about the health of Texas women.
    Chair: Rep. Byron Cook
    Vice Chair: Rep. Helen Giddings
    Members: Rep. Tom Craddick
    Rep. Jessica Farrar
    Rep. John Frullo
    Rep. Charlie Geren
    Rep. Patricia Harless
    Rep. Harvey Hilderbran
    Rep. Dan Huberty
    Rep. José Menéndez
    Rep. René Oliveira
    Rep. John T. Smithee
    Rep. Sylvester Turner
Also, about 11 p.m., we were treated by the Democratic committee members to fresh, warm cookies from Tiff’s Treats. Earlier in the evening — around 9– pizzas from East Side Pies were delivered and they were just great. Another round of pizzas turned up about an hour later. And lots of bottles of water. I believe the pizzas and water were courtesy of donations from folks around the country via Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas and Capital Area Democratic Women, possibly other organizations.

    6
  7. I was there til it was over, 3:30 or so. There’s no place I can thank the people who sent food, so I’ll do it here: thanks for the pizza, tacos, water, cookies, donuts, and coffee (hot and iced). And thanks to all the men and women who came, many of whom stayed til the bitter end. I guess we need to register voters and start raising money for the next election.

    7
  8. Attila the Blond says:

Bet the next important legislation they work on will be ways to control The People and keep them out of the Halls of Government. Wouldn’t be surprised if Scott Walker and his Capital Cop come to give them a workshop on the topic.

    8
  9. The word has come down from ALEC to just bully and push regardless of public outcry or opinion and never admit any shame regardless of how shameful and stupid the legislation. They sure are following those orders lockstep here in Wisconsin. Why do we need to elect these characters if they are just going to act as bought-and-paid-for automatons? We should just raise $$ to see who can build the most expensive soulless robot and send them to the statehouse.

    9
  10. Aggieland liz says:

Viva la revolucion y’all, time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Thinking we need to hit the message with the young ‘uns, early and often. Blue is the color of the wide skies and waters; red is the color of blood!

    10
  11. Marge Wood says:

I guess you know who’s big on ALEC? The Koch brothers. Don’t use Georgia Pacific products. For building materials use Hardie Board; it’s not from Koch brothers. And if you want more folks registered, in addition to doing it yourselves, here in Texas we are blessed to have Battleground Texas who will be registering voters all over the state. They need places to stay, hint hint. We kept two very nice ladies from Battleground Texas the other night.

    11
  12. Marge Wood says:

WHY are so many legislators all riled up over women’s issues anyway? It’s not just abortion. I mean, Planned Parenthood does all kind of lady things like birth control, mammograms etc. WHAT IS THEIR DEAL?

    12
  13. Hey, this issue is about to be on Chris Hayes.

    13
  14. Marge Wood, I lived in Alabama for six loooooooooong years, and had to join the Christian Coalition to know who to (not) vote for (candidates don’t admit their positions to the press). At least for that subset, it isn’t just abortion they hate, it is also birth control.

    14
  15. Attila the Blond says:

Koch Brothers and their kind wanna throw bones to control freaks so they will be too busy putting their noses in our lady parts to notice that the Hoarder Class is skinning them alive too.

    15
  16. BarbinDC says:

@Marge Wood: Those troglodytes know that if women control our own bodies and fertility, then we will rule the world. It has always been thus. Why do you think the Taliban treat women with such disdain? The mere idea of Juanita Jean all up in their faces must give them nightmares.

    16
  17. I have two questions for these short-sighted men:
    (1) Since you believe every life is precious, as you say, then can I assume you are opposed to capital punishment?
    (2) Are you going to vote for the money to care for millions of unwanted and perhaps abused children, many (if not most) of whom will end up in foster care? Of course, they’ll be a drain on our educational resources as well, but I’m sure you’ve got that covered.

    17
  18. Rosenex says:

Ref: Marge Wood, State Farm Ins./ Ed Rust Jr. is a big MurdochianBircherKochTP supporter. ALEC is their swindle.

    18
  19. Aggieland liz says:

Dear Dinah, don’t you remember workhouses? I assure you, those elephantine ba$tards do, and wonder why they ever went out of fashion!

OT, Where do y’all think Paula Deen will land? Southern Living? Faux (a)Noyz?

    19
  20. These Repig men have so overdone the vaginal ultrasound and such to the point where they must now be wondering what the outside of the vagina looks like. People, these critters are practicing not just medicine without a license but full on in your face ha ha ha pornography and they should be taken down under those laws. And, yes, I am betting one of these good Xtian men critter politicians will be discovered wearing fishnet stockings and a miniature maid costume and hooker heels sometime between now and the next election. Film at 11.

    20
  21. Attila the Blond says:

“Best Little Whorehouse In Texas” used to be a fun musical. How times have changed.

ALEC should be branded as a crime syndicate.

    21
  22. I have a button that says “Women brought all politicians into this world, and women can take them out.”

    22
  23. Al in Arizona says:

If you desire to know more about ALEC and their latest attempt to go incognito (changing their name), I recommend you link into one of Texas’ own Bill Moyers tonight’s show on PBS. It is all about ALEC and it opened my eyes. I had heard about ALEC and read a couple of things about them, but tonight Moyers connected a lot of the dots for me.

    23
  24. I wonder if anyone of my friends in Texas watched PBS series called “Call the Midwife’ (or something like that. It depicted life in Britain in the early 50’s when women did not have birth control, or the right to abortion. Life was not pretty, in fact it was a living hell.
Is that what US men in government want us to live like?

Anyway – this is not the end, the strong women in Texas will win in the end.

I keep thinking of dear Molly Ivens & Ms Richards – what would they think of these clowns that call themselves men!

    24
  25. Joan, that PBS series is a total winner! Midwifery is just the entry for showing all of the problems in England at that time. These problems also contributed to keeping women and their families below the poverty level. Also, have you ever seen the old Dr. Christian films? If you haven’t let me tell you they are real eye openers in the same way as Call the Midwife. These old films need to be remastered and shown damn near constantly on TV.

    25
  26. I was/am totally hooked on “Call the Midwife” and, of course, “Downtown Abbey” … and look forward to their return at some point!

At least in “Call the Midwife” they finally gave in to using nitrous oxide or some type of gas to help lessen the pain of labor [not sure just what type it was]; and birth control pills were finally introduced near the end of this year’s series, too.

PBS has some of the best series on TV.

    26
  27. Rachel Maddow covered this story last night, live shots and all.
You can bet she’ll stay on it, too. She compared the Gov of Iowa, Terry Branstad, to Captain Kangaroo last week and I’m still smiling out loud! Together, folks, we’ll take ’em all on….

    27
  28. maryelle says:

This is what passes for democracy according to the Repig conservatives. It’s nothing but the American version of the Taliban.

    28
  29. The full house will take up the bill Sunday afternoon and women need to pack the gallery. There is no opportunity to speak and if you get too rowdy, the sargeant at arms will have DPS escort you out (but that would make interesting photo op).

    29
  30. Lorraine in Spring says:

Just made another donation to Planned Parenthood on behalf of the Texas Lege.

Momma, please cover your ears for a minute.

    Those #$%*$##@#$%^&^$%##@!!@(@#@%$%$&ers!

OK, Momma. I’m finished. For today.

    30
  31. May I just say….. I don’t care where Paula Deen “lands”.

Her “times were different” excuse doesn’t jell with the fact that she, and her dear brother is the subject of a lawsuit …… NOW.

JJ, if the Dems don’t run somebody for Governor next gubernatorial election year…. they have wasted the opportunity of a lifetime. And, we need to get rid of the House members who did this horrible thing to the women of Texas…… I will not send money to the Democratic Party. Like the old saying goes “Charity begins at home.” But, I will send what I can to Democrats who run against the T-Party in Texas…. I’m just sick and tired of that feeling that I have some old man’s size 16 boots on the back of my neck.

    31
  32. “are” not “is”.

    32
  33. Scum. I’m sorry, Momma, but that’s the closest thing to a polite name I can summon for these vile simulacra of humanity. From California, I say thanks to all of you who showed up at the statehouse.
