Creepy as Hell
During a debate last night the four candidates running for the GOP nomination for Lt. Governor of Damn Texas agreed that abortion should not be allowed in any case – including cases of rape or incest.
Dan Patrick, the creepiest man in Texas, said that in the case of the life of the mother, “Most mothers would say to let my baby live.” I feel sure he would want to add, “You know, especially if it’s a white male baby.”
These guys are still pissed off about Eve and the apple and they are coming after hooter toters with intent to freekin’ rape and kill us.
I’ve made no bones out of the fact that Leticia Van De Putte is my favorite candidate running this year. So, march your butt over to her website and contribute even $5 today. I’m not saying that Wendy is not wonderful and grand. She is. But, this is the race we have to win and Leticia is the woman to do it. The Lt. Governor in Texas is the one with all the power.
Leticia was the woman who set off the people’s filibuster that night. She is my hero.

I’ve got a link to her ACT BLUE page so I can send her a few bucks with just 3 clicks every time I get a whiff of Dan Patrick.

1Any of you who have ever heard Patrick’s radio rants know just how dangerous he really is. If he makes it to Lt. Governor, I promise you he will promote laws that will make present-day Texas look progressive by comparison. Get behind Leticia with all your might.
2Dan P. has a reputation outside of TX as a hater.
3@JJ: Taking issue with “Dan Patrick, the creepiest man in Texas,” IMHO as long as Steve Stockman is hiding out in Texas Dan Patrick can’t be a number 1. He’s a number 2.
4Miz Juanita Jean, I was watching (not being able to be there in person that night) when Miz Leticia got to the TX Senate floor straight from her father’s funeral (God bless her) and started giving them what for. Starting with, “Please update me on what happened while I was not here,” and not letting them brush her off until they gave her an answer, and ending with her wonderful speech about what it takes for a female senator to get recognized over a male one, I was completely enthralled.
She was also completely awesome the previous Thursday at the hearings when they tried to close them early and we refused to leave. She was the one who kept coming out, encouraging us, and keeping us informed about what was happening behind those closed doors. I fell in love with her that day. It became a forever love the following week.
FYI – I just did a Google search on her name. Google gives you possible suggestions as you type. Her name came up first. Second was her name plus the word “quote.” So many people are still after that quote that it rises to the top of the search. That’s awesome, but perhaps we need to do a little judicious work so her run for Lt. Governor is 2nd instead of 3rd? At least it pops up high!
5Thanks for the link Ralph. Wendy has my monthly donation–my first consistent political donation…since I am from a foreign state, my next donation was going to be national, but Texas needs to go Blue, and it’s past time for the 51% to have that much representation in our government. Leticia gets it. Not much, but more than I can truly afford, and I’ll be eating my fair portion a of beans and rice to stand in solidarity with all of the poor in our Republic. Turn the country Blue!
6Y’all been reading about the Munoz family and the dead woman being used as an incubator [shiver]? The judge finally told the hospital to pull the plug and they did on Sunday.
Well, Patrick wants to tighten the law that allowed the judge to make that decision. I guess he thinks that he’s going to make points with a new Zombie Mommy law because, By Gawd, she’s gonna carry that kid whether she’s alive or dead!
That’ll show them wimmin!
7Kate, the thing that really gets me about that case is that the baby wasn’t viable. The fetus was only 14 weeks along when the mother died. As they kept her corpse going, it was determined that the baby had severe deformities and wasn’t developing normally otherwise. I’ve read opinions where “if they’d only kept her alive another two weeks the baby could have survived.” I think those folks should be willing to adopt the baby and pay all of its medical bills.
I came across a really interesting article looking at it from the fetal point of view. One line stood out to me in particular, “The average IQ of a fetus delivered after 24 weeks is 70, he said. And for a fetus with the difficulties described in the Muñoz case, the prognosis could be even more challenging.”

8Well that’s real nice of Dan Patrick to decide for us women what we’d do. You know, my little lady head is just so full of nonsense like recipes and cleaning tips and the latest nail colors at the salon that I’m sure I couldn’t decide if I were faced with a life ending pregnancy just WHAT to do! Why I do declare, these complicated life or death matters are just TOO MUCH for a little ol’ gal like myself.
AMIRIGHT LADIES????
9“These guys are still pissed off about Eve and the apple ….”
No, actually, that’s not it, honey. It’s the control. It’s the dominance. It’s the eternal battle over who is more important: men or women.
Clearly women are more important to the perpetuation of the species. Sorry guys but it’s true. It’s why our genitalia isn’t flying around outside our bodies where any fungus or knife or saber tooth tiger or other accident can render us evolutionarily irrelevant at the flick of an eye.
I wrote about this a long, long time ago (here, for any interested: http://southernbeale.wordpress.com/2011/02/07/time-for-us-women-to-cut-you-boys-off/)
10This was a long time ago. I had a difficult pregnancy after my 3rd child, who was very premature, died.
I developed complications, which were not life threatening at the time, but could have been if I continued the same meds to stop contractions.
I chose to start a different medication which helped me to stay pregnant until my son was born.
I had a choice and I chose my life over that of the baby. I had 2 young children and a husband at home who needed me.
Perhaps Mr. Patrick can be so cavalier with a woman’s life because he will NEVER be in that position to make that choice. Has he heard from fathers? Would they let their wife die so they could have the baby?
11Even rick santorum saved his wife over his baby.
But yet he would allow other men wives to die for his religious views.
I am glad I am not married to that jerk and would never vote for him.
Southern Beale,
“These guys are still pissed off about Eve and the apple ….”
Yeah, Eve gives Adam the apple that will give wisdom and when god discovers he ate it, he whines…she made me do it.
Even when I was a kid I thought this was a lame story, and BTW, in ancient mythology, snakes were symbols of wisdom and most of the gods of wisdom were female!
12Men need to STFU about women’s health care. Period, full stop.
13BTW – how are they situated on the death penalty?
14Sharon, I expect they love it.
15Every time a Repug makes a statement about women’s health, he should be punched in the mouth. Over time, this might help him associate pain with pronouncements, followed by avoidance. Volunteers for the puncher position anyone?
16maryelle, Boehner and Priebus would be happy to hold the miscreants, while you ladies administer the slap fest. Grumpy McGrampy would probably like to land a few punches on them, too. Ms Lindsey Beauregard declines for fear of chipping a nail.
17Just a reminder that we’ll need a few more democrats in the senate, as well. The power of the lite gov to name committee chairs, assign bills to committee, etc., is granted by vote of the senators on senate rules at the beginning new session. Leticia could be left virtually powerless, with only ceremonial duties. At least that is my memory from high school and college civics classes.
18I could not watch much of that…four plastic white men bragging on how they were going to rule everybody else.
