Chechnya?

April 19, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

What a disappointment this must be to Louie Gohmert (who thought it was Islamic terrorists trying to act like Mexicans) and Ted Cruz (who thought it must be space aliens or liberals).

  1. According to NBC news the brothers lived in Turkey and then moved to the US. They are legal residents and have live in America for at least six years.

  2. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

Fear not, Chechnya has many Muslims living there so Louie and Glen and Michelle etc. can still hate to their hearts’ content.

    2
  3. First, Louie Gohmert has probably never heard of Chechnya.
Second, if he has heard of it, he can’t pronounce it.
Third, he is going to be surprised that there are Muslims who are ‘white’ in this world. There goes ‘profiling’ out the window Louie.

I can’t wait for the the comments regarding this issue from the esteemed Republican U.S. Representative from Texas’s First Congressional District.

  4. There was a shoot out – I wonder where the brothers got the guns – background checks? Registered guns?

Al Quaeda? Maybe. Acting Hispanic? Not unless you count the baseball caps as sombreros. Camped along the Mexican border? Waaaaaaaaay off.
Thank God we have law enforcement officers who know what they’re doing!

  6. The report I read, according to their uncle, said the 2 young men came to America in 2000 or 2001. Their parents are living in Russia. The Uncle declares neither of these 2 deserve to live. Evidently the now deceased brother had explosives strapped to his body and when the other brother fled the scene, he actually ran over his brother’s body … it’s a wonder the explosives didn’t explode when he did that … maybe he was hoping they’d be blown to bits!

I simply do not understand people anymore …

  7. I’ve read so much on this I’m to the saturation point. Most of it has been “Breaking News” that has been “Breaking” since I turned my computer on at about 5:00 a.m.

They had a “Facebook” page in Russian. Somebody who deciphered all that…. posted that they were not that crazy about Islam, and were more Chechnyan Nationalist types. I also read this morning that according to their daddy who still lives in a place I can’t spell or pronounce in Chechnya that his baby is an “angel” and if he is killed “All hell will break loose.” Well….. we’ve been there done that all week long, in one form or another. So Dad. Bring It. I think, if you do, you may meet some drones. Just a guess.

They stole a car. License number is up every where. Made some poor guy withdraw $800 from his bank account at an ATM. I’m hoping they find him quick. More than him, I’m hoping they find the stuff he makes bombs out of, before he has a chance to make another one.

Kid is 19. Big Brother was 26. And, probably got him into more mess than he thought possible.

@Marcia, you probably are right. He was probably hoping to blow himself up. His choices on how he meets his Maker, are getting to be fewer, and fewer.

Just after 11 in the morning in Boston. Watertown, just outside Boston, is ground zero of the biggest police/military action anybody around here has ever seen this side of Afghanistan or Iraq. The entire city of Boston and several surrounding communities are in “shelter in place” mode–please stay indoors, lock doors/windows, no travel. MBTA mass transit was abruptly shut down around 5:30 this morning. No taxi service, either. No-fly zone over Watertown.

Most of the staff where I work is stuck in the secured area, but those of us just outside of it made it in (office is also outside the secured zone). Most of what we’re doing is reassuring colleagues from around the country we’re okay.

A young police officer at MIT is dead, shot allegedly by the suspects. He may have saved countless lives.

I’m a native Bostonian. I’m tough. I’ll link to this very, very funny blog from a blogger north of the city (Juanita, please forgive me, the fella’s kind of salty, but if you can stand the language, he give out-of-towners the best description of Boston you ever saw.) We’ll get through this but whoa, is this something.

Keep a good thought for us?

  9. Marcia, I don’t know what type of explosives they were carrying. My updates at work haven’t said (and I couldn’t tell you if they did, most likely). A lot of explosives are incredibly stable. Many need either a strong electrical current or another explosion to trigger them. Just running over him is unlikely to cause that.

As mentioned before, my college roommate made TATB for a living, one of the world’s most stable explosives. You could burn it, break it, shape it on a lathe. It took another high explosive to set it off. Fortunately it is REALLY hard to manufacture, taking many steps and proper reactors.

FYI – I took one look at their last name and thought “Russian.” I don’t know what the addition of “naev” means, but “tsar” was the king.

Being on Pacific Time, I knew there was drama when I went to bed. All I could think was, my family and friends there would wake up to another shock. Watertown is next to where I grew up in Waltham. We lived close to the Watertown line. I spent many hours waiting for buses and trolleys in Watertown Sq, and many hours shopping at Arsenal Mall. Had a text when I got up that my daughter was safely locked down in her apt on the Red Line Davis Sq stop. No school to teach today. Friends and family safe. Sister Linda, an ER nurse at Beth Israel, is coming home today from her trip to China. What a mess to return to! I’ll bet her coworkers are ready for some relief. God bless all the medical and law enforcement people.

  11. I am amazed by the police work in identifying these guys. Right out of a movie.

  12. I just listened to the Uncle … reporters and microphones all in his face but he is so ashamed of his nephews … so angry about the shame these two have brought upon ALL Chechnians … he has nothing to do with his brother’s family and has kept his family away from them. Said he last spoke to his brother in 2009. Implored the 19 year old to give himself up and ask for forgiveness from EVERYONE!! His statements were powerful and quite moving!!

@SusanF … I heard/read earlier this morning that police requested all residents in Watertown and the surrounding areas to shut off their cell phones in case the explosives strapped to the now deceased 26 year old could be triggered by the phone … from what I’ve been hearing on TV, they can’t tell if the 19-year-old has explosives strapped to his body or not! I believe the Uncle did say one or both of these guys were born in some province of Russia .. but I could be wrong on that. It’s all moving so fast and a lot of info gets jumbled!!

    12
  13. Marcia, it would be quite rare for a stray cell phone to set off a device. You usually need to call the correct number. Much better to shut down the towers if you are that worried as you won’t get full compliance, let alone get the word to everyone. Then again, if you do that, you might miss valuable communication if someone sees the suspect.

I expect it might just be the police’s way of keeping the cell phone bandwidth clear so that it can be used for emergencies instead of getting completely choked up as it did on Monday. But that’s just a guess on my part.

Since a friends family was so impacted by their son losing both legs and his wife her foot, my hometown is abuzz with so much sorrow and anger–a death in another family is considered patient zero by a know nothing in southern Ca who wants to make political hay against gays–and my friend whose son was savagely beaten by 3 bullies for no reason (he was walking on the other side of the street) is having a breakdown…then things like explosions kill so many innocent people–we are a huge country, bound by sorrow, pain and anger for such senseless events…we need to stop with brave faces and hold these gutless politicos to the fire, to get the things we can have some control over handled. I’m so sick of holding wounded, crying friends because America has a love affair with rape, guns and violence, to the land, the children and families–we need to stop the insanity…

  15. Gidget, thanks for the Jim Dowd article. That’s great!

    15
  16. @Gidget, I too, want to thank you for the Jim Dowd article.

It is the first time I have smiled all week long.

From the East Coast, to West, Texas…… it’s not been a good week.

    Brilliant article. Thanks!

  17. @Gidget Thanks for sharing! The few I know from Boston are exactly as described!!
Thanks for some sorely needed humor!

  18. This is just horrid, but the news reporters have made it worse – I have come to hate the word “exclusive” coming from a news announcer’s mouth~

So, Looney Louie is still quiet? He must be “investigatin'” this along with Carnival CruzBoy~
