Cheap Dates and Small Men

March 05, 2019 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

This morning, Jennifer Rubin laments to loss of dignity and honor among Republican men.  You know those guys – Cruz, Rubio, Graham, and the other pathetic men who know for a fact that they would have had a conniption fit if Barack Obama had pulled any emergency powers stunt like Trump, but they are too scared to say anything.

After all, a Trump scorned calls people names. It’s easier not to be called names than to stand up to man who favors dictators over Americans.

Rubin writes —

Unfortunately, if they are remembered at all, it will be for their docility in the face of an authoritarian president and for their willingness to disregard their oaths for the security of another term or a gig on Fox News after retirement or a cheesy award from some right-wing group. These are cheap dates and small men.

Which brings me to why I am afraid of impeachment. Do we really want the smallest man of them all – Mike Pence – stepping into that slot with all the power he would inherit from Trump coupled with his religious fervor?

And I am especially grateful that my Party has people with guts, and that merrily, many of them standing toward the front are young women of color.  No cheap dates or small anything among them.

  1. I fear Pence too. I think it would be better to keep Trump but remove his fangs- make him ineffectual.

  2. I can imagine the Republican heads exploding if Obama had had a private meeting with Putin, took the interpreter’s notes, and swore the interpreter to secrecy. They would have tried to impeach him immediately. What a bunch of hypocrites.

  3. Have no idea why Pence would advance if there is an impeachment inasmuch as the Official Ding Sweeper Upper, he is also damn well complicit! Both of these guys have to go!

Robert Reich makes a convincing argument in favor. Pence won’t blow the world up out of spite. Trump might just do that.

If we’re real lucky, impeachment will happen close enough to the election that it won’t make a darn bit of difference.

If Trump doesn’t blow us up by then.

    I end it with
You will be remembered more for what you failed to do then any of your accomplishments.

While annoying, hypocrisy is the lesser of their crimes. These Republicon apologists are worried what investigations of Donnie and Russia will reveal about their own guilty crimes. Remember when Kevin McCarty hot mic confessed to knowing about Dana Rohrabacher’s Russian ties? How soon they forget that now rat and liar Michael Cohen worked for the RNC.

  7. Jennifer Rubin writes usually half a dozen excellent columns a day, only one of which makes it to the Wash. Post front page. I just check her blog site daily so that I can read them all.

I still like the slow bleed strategy. He is destroying the Republican party and I think we should let him.

@Ralph Wiggam Good point. Democrats will make far more hay on investigations than crossing swords with GOP over impeachment… to wit:

  10. I’m wondering how many of these bozos will be memorialized pejoratively like Quizling and others whose names have become adjectives and synonyms for low-lifes worthless do-nothings.

  11. Impeachment gets rid of Trump.
The 2020 election, against a severely weakened Trump, and Mr. Invisible Pence (nothing going on here – for now) – – gets rid of them both.

If both Trump and Pence are impeached and/or indicted,
Nancy Pelosi becomes the first woman president. If I’m not
mistaken, The Speaker of the House is 3rd in line.
Let’s hope the Dems turn up lots of smoking guns quickly.
Pence had to know what was going on.
