Chaos. They Love Chaos.
Texas Bozo Congressman Chip Roy let the cat out of the bag. Someone secretly recorded him saying that this whole bipartisanship thingy is hogwash.

It’s just so nice when you have them on tape.
A large percentage of both sides use “bipartisanship” mainly as a fund-raising issue instead of what it’s supposed to do.
1Mike, I think the Republicans have made it a policy to avoid bipartisanship. Look what happened with the last stimulus and the attempt to start an investigation into the Jan 6 insurrection. This is a case where “both sides” just doesn’t cut it. We have one party trying to govern and do their job, while the other just wants power and money, and regard demonizing their opponents as a tool for winning.
Here’s the scary thing about what Roy said: probably a majority of the voters in his district are saying “hell yeah, that’s what we need”.
2Professor, I am not! Just got off the phone with Ryan Duncan, a young man who answers phones at Chip Roy’s San Antonio office.
I told him I had just seen Roy say this in a video and that he is absolutely not representing his district or the people of Texas.
More angry stuff from me, then I told Ryan that I presumed he was a nice young man (ha) but that he works for a monster.
3Sayin’ it out loud! They have no shame!
4Texas has some really bad pretend legislators in congress, but it’s not the lone state in that regard. The mitch mcconnell playbook in both chambers. They’re only accomplished in regurgitating all the repugnantican buzz words and phrases, many outlined in Nick’s piece above. And to think we pay them to do it (nothing). What a fricking waste.
5Virginia, i’m glad you not only disagree with Roy but are willing to contact his office to complain. I said “a majority of the voters in his district” but that doesn’t mean all of them … and probably none of the folks that hang out at the WMDBS here.
But in any case, I did not mean to cast aspersions on you.
6The Surly Professor & Virginia, Chip Roy’s TX-21 District is a gerrymandered solid R+5 MAGAotland between Austin and San Antonio stretching far west, heavily Anglo and fairly wealthy suburbs and rural.
It was Rethug Lamar Smith’s lair for ~32 years.
When Smith retired in 2018 Roy beat a very competent Democrat, Joe Kopser by 3 points. In 2020 Roy beat Wendy Davis by almost 7 points.
The much larger adjacent TX-23rd, R+1, to the south and west, Hispanic majority, was/is still Rethug too. Will Hurd managed to hang on to it despite strong Democratic opponents, then in 2020 Rethug Tony Gonzales took over [the 23rd was thought to be the most ‘flippable’ US district for Dems].
Despite all the Republican shit of the last years and decades, the Rethugs are gaining among Texas Hispanics. The damned Democrats had effening better wake the F up and come up with a counter-offensive to reverse this trend and start winning in Texas.

Sandridge@7: You hit the nail on the head. I was shocked when I heard that so many Texan Hispanics vote Republican. Then I discovered that my next door neighbors who immigrated from I forget which Central American country years ago are solid Red Trumpies. He wore his MAGA hat around until Jan. 6 and then went to just a red hat. We hoped he’d seen a glimmer of light. However, he still works in his garage listening to all the hate radio stations. These are otherwise kind, good-hearted neighbors. My husband asked him once how he could support Trump considering his views on Hispanic immigrants and he said THEY immigrated the right and legal way and all those others at the border are trying to get in illegally and deserve what they get. I suspect it has not occurred to him that Trump and Republicans don’t much care about how he got here; their brown skin and fluent Spanish make them as much their target as any of those swimming the Rio Grande.
The Dems need to focus on this group of people if we are to ever gain any ground in this state, or any other state with sizeable Hispanic populations. It makes no sense that Hispanics are supporting Republicans.
