Can I Stay Informed Without Going Nuts?

August 30, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

President Trump posted 89 (!) tweets or retweets between midnight and 8:04 am DC time this morning.

Busy, laser focused on making America great again, again. Literally working his fingers to the phone.
.
My guess is, he stayed up much of the night, relishing the Portland chaos, unleashed by his thugs and brownshirts. Add that to some bad internal polling and a heavy dose of Adderall or whatever drug he’s on.
.
When cornered like a frightened and desperate rat, he tweets all night long.
.
He’s going to Kenosha on Tuesday simply to stir up more violence.  He’s relying on Republican hired gun Alex Conant’s advice.
.

“If the election is about the pandemic, he’s going to lose. If the election is about who is better equipped to handle urban riots, you’ve got to like Trump’s chances.”

However, a Wall StreeJournal / NBC News survey this month found crime to be well behind the economy, coronavirus and other matters as a top concern for voters.
.
He can’t win on the pandemic or the economy.  Violence is his only hope.
..
Thanks to Deb T for the heads up.

Be social and share!

Trumpf has wanted a civil war so he can have a statue of himself. He’s doing everything possible to get one going.
His slogan that he’s the president of peace is so much bullshit, like everything else in his administration. His cult buys into it. Hopefully no one else is being fooled.
I’ve been fired up since this morning when I read and saw the pictures of Trumpf’s civilian militia roaring thru downtown Portland. I need a glass of wine to calm me down. It must be 5 o’clock somewhere.

“Portland chaos, unleashed by his thugs and brownshirts”

This has set my anxiety on high. I was considering relocating to Portlandia but the recent history has me rethinking my plans.

Plus, the same graphics on the cars in that line from Camas, WA to Portland are easily seen all over Bastrop.

  3. It’s a constant source of bewilderment how an incumbent who created the underlying discord now roiling out across the country, wants to run on a platform of stopping the violence he generated.

Couldn’t he stop it now? I mean really, why wait until after the election?

If Trump thinks he can quash the protests by ‘cracking down,’ he’s doomed to failure.

If he thinks he can quell the ‘riots’ by getting the white nationalists involved, he’s staring an explosion in the face.

If he thinks a ‘tough on the Left’ policy will win the election, he ain’t been paying attention.

  5. Texas Expat in CA says:

The slogan “no justice, no peace” isn’t a threat, it’s a statement of cause and effect. We’ll have no peace in this country until there is justice for ALL people. Trump and other authoritarians think they can simply suppress dissent and protests about injustice, through policing and militarism and arrests and incarceration. That’s their idea of “order.” Suppression has never brought peace or lasting order, and it won’t work now.

BTW: Portland’s mayor just made a powerful statement about Trump’s responsibility for the violence in his city.

  6. DonA in Pennsyssisippi says:

The agents of provocation will be at your peaceful demonstration. Be prepared to walk away. Take pictures if you can but don’t stick around for the violence.

  7. WA Skeptic says:

Well, fear and violence worked for Joseph Goebbels and Hitler. It only took massive violence to get those guys out of our world, but there’s obviously an entrancing appeal to the message, one which other Fascists can work to their advantage.

  8. Sam in Superior says:

Trump is going in order to stir up violence just as he did with his tweets. The more disorder he creates, the more he blames it on Biden while innocent people get hurt.

  9. Sam,
Thanks for that link to Wis Examiner. With reporters from The Progressive & Isthmus they certainly have a solid background in progressive Wisconsin politics. I added them to my Twitter feed as it looks like there will be more news from the southeast part of the state next week.

It was the GOP who started the Southern Strategy. His majesty is still trying to divide us, just across the whole nation!

  12. Steve from Beaverton says:

FYI, thanks to Texas xpat in Ca. If you’re interested, google mayor Ted Wheeler and listen to his message to Trumpf. It’s the best speech I’ve heard him give and exactly what I think, and I live where this is happening.
It’s not going to stop the nightly violence, but it puts the blame where it belongs. A real leader could set a tone to heal this country, but it’ll take an election to make it happen. Democrats, get out the god damned vote. Our democracy depends on it.

    12
  13. Listen to Putin’s comments on Belarus, they are identical to Trump’s tweets about Portland. He is jonesing to call out the military and his Civil War pre-enactors have gotten the message loud and clear.

  14. thatotherjean says:

I’m betting on an all-night, Adderall-fueled binge by Trump, in the face of frustration over his poll numbers. He needs meds for his Alzheimer’s/cognitive impairment/whatever, but he’ll never take them, because that would be admitting weakness. He needs to be gone. Vote like your life depended on it; it does.

  15. To all you folks in the area hit by the hurricane, how much of the recovery can be expected from local and state, and how much can Boss Tweet’s utterances be tied around his neck to show his ability as a leader/administrator? I think pointing out how effective state and local has been to the overall recovery might be a good place to start.

I sincerely hope for a miracle that things return to normal quickly, but expect another failure from BLOATUS…

  16. Harry Eagar says:

    Steve @ 1:

Yep. I don’t think many Americans think Mussolini is worth studying any more but I do. I recommend the books of Denis Mack Smith, especially “Mussolini’s Roman Empire.”

It is remarkable how closely Trump mimics Mussolini. Not a case of deliberate imitation obviously but an example of convergent evolution or of the very limited repertoire of behaviors we humans have.

Even the move from left to right mimics Mussolini.

The only significant differences are that Mussolini grew up very poor (his family gathered weeds from he ditches to eat) and Mussolini was pretty well read (his father was a school teacher) and eloquent to a degree.

    16
  17. @ Texas Expat: Beautifully said. Thanks.

@ Harry Eager: Of course not “deliberate imitation.” You have to be aware of a thing to imitate it deliberately, and Boss Tweet isn’t aware of anything beyond himself.

On retaining sanity if you are a FB user using Chrome:

There is a wonderful add-on called Social Fixer for Chrome which allows control of your FB feed. Many different filters and layout options not provided by FB – Natch! No ads, no nothing you don’t want to see. Also, FB recently switched to a new look which breaks SF – but not for long. See below.

Have you been forced into Facebook’s new layout but don’t like it? Now you can go back! https://OldLayout.com
“Old Layout for Facebook” is a simple browser extension that makes FB send you to the old layout, even if you’ve been switched to the new and not given the option to go back.

Disclaimer: SF is so good I have donated twice!

  20. “… who is better equipped to handle urban riots…”

You know, if we had a different chief of state, I’d bet those riots wouldn’t even happen. It’s worth asking ourselves why we even need to handle those “riots.”
