But, Y’all, He’s Kinda Slow

Moscow Mitch finally admits that Joe Biden won this election so many time that he can be president for the next twenty years or so.

“The electoral college has spoken. So today I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden,” McConnell said in remarks on the Senate floor.

So, generally Trump would have fired him on the spot, but Mitch did some bigly butt kissing.

McConnell said Trump had “shored up our footing on the world stage” and had reshaped the federal judiciary, including his three Supreme Court picks.

“It would take far more than one speech to catalogue all the major accomplishments of this administration,” McConnell said, adding that Trump and Vice President Pence “deserve our thanks and our gratitude for their tireless work.”

No, you could do it in one speech but two hours of that speech would be the things he screwed up. And another hour recounting all the whining. And you can’t discount all the self congratulatory statements and the time spent on the golf course.  And we can thank Trump for not getting us all killed because he sure gave it his damnest.

Please, we gotta win Georgia and say bye-bye to Mitch.

Notably, #MoscowMitch waited until AFTER Putin had congratulated President-elect Biden because, you know, it’s not polite to step in front of the boss.

  2. Well said, AlanInAustin, McConnell also waited until he could hide behind the electoral college before he chose to acknowledge reality. God help us in Georgia as Trump World is stocking up on “second amendment supplies.”

  3. Finally, a sigh of relief.

  4. Best case scenario is a Senate split 50-50 with VP Harris casting the deciding vote. Fun times ahead; not. Time for “Boxing Joe” Biden to bloody Moscow Mitch’s nose. Daily. Anyone really think Chuck Schumer is up to taking Joe Manchin to the woodshed when Manchin stinks up the legislative plans?

  5. “… catalogue all the major accomplishments”

I agree Trump was the first President to get away with so many crimes, misdemeanors, and general impropriety while in office. But don’t be modest Mitch, give yourself some credit for that.

    Well, bless his heart.

Here’s why Mitch is more dangerous than people are giving him credit for:

He has stiffly opposed aid to cities and states, and has advocated, publicly and on the record, that they should just file bankruptcy.

If cities or states file bankruptcy, elected officials are no longer in charge. Judges will be in charge. And who got all these judges their jobs? Bankruptcy means drastic austerity or elimination of every progressive or middle-of-the-road piece of government, though I suspect corporate welfare might still be available.

I think Dems should cave on the legal liability thing. I can’t imagine how you can prove in a court of law exactly where you got a virus anyway. But stand firm on aide to cities and states.

Wyatt, I don’t know what “people” aren’t giving Moscow Mitch credit for being dangerous, but every Democrat I know definitely considers him poison to the core.

It is possible to tell where you got a virus IF you have limited sources of infection, you and all your household are tested early after a possible contact, and if others in the same contact situation are also tested. Viruses mutate in their hops from person to person, and if this country had put the time & money into testing and contact tracing (as NZ did) we’d know more and be better able to explain & prove who gave it to whom, and where *they* caught it.

That takes money and intelligence in the medical and political communities that did not (does not) exist here. Instead we’ve got communities like Quinter, KS and the county it’s in. Gove County has the highest Covid death rate in the country–one out of every 132 as of last Thursday. But instead of everyone agreeing that yeah, really, we should all wear masks, they started out hoping the axe would fall on others. Nobody should tell them what to do. If you die, that’s what God meant to happen. And anyway, all those people in the long-care home were old and would die sometime…

They miss the chocolate cake with fudge icing one of those old women made for the community every year, and they miss the old guy who had the whole county history in his head and told interesting stories, but…none of this is their fault. We’ll never know how they got the virus or who gave it to whom, but they’ll blame somebody else from somewhere else all the way to the grave.

The worst instincts of the repugnantican party (white privilege, supremacists, racist, party of exclusion and voter suppression, hate mongers and much more) has been around for a long time, but when Obama was elected, Moscow Mitch lit the match to get it really burning. Even before Obama’s inauguration, Mitch fanned the flames so that now, the darkest part of his party are flat out running his party. In addition to all the ugly parts of the party, they are now openly the party of lies and conspiracy theories. Being in his position, Mitch’s cowardly silence on the election just made all the election fraud conspiracies mainstream repugnantican. Repugnantican politicians have backed themselves into a corner now and have to cater to the darkest part of their party. Look for Mitch to do everything he can to try and sabotage Biden-Harris and the 80+ million that voted against Trumpf. Georgia is now equally as important as it was to get Trumpf out.

It will take quite a number of readings from jury boxes.
