Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
Nope, no Global Climate Change at all. Nothing to see here. Move along.
1I keep telling all the climate change deniers living in low lying areas that they better learn the difficult art of mud breathing.
2It is painful to see the destruction of those ancient towns.
3In the 1980’s, Mother Jones Magazine published an article about Congress vs. Global Warming.
Because it would cost money to address and because the scientists still thought the rise would be in a linear fashion, rather than exponential, Congress decided to do nothing. They figured they’d be home and dry [retired or dead] before things went south and it would be someone else’s problem.
These days, every time there’s a major flood or wildfire or drought or 500 year storm 15 years after the last one, I want to collar a Republican and ask, “How’s that saving-money thing working out for ya?”
4Mother Nature appears to have had enough of humanity destroying her planet and all things in it. I often feel like we are going to go extinct before this stops, and the rest of nature will be better off for it.
5Last week parts of Germany were deluged with a month’s worth of rain and 48 hours, sweeping away buildings drowning dozens of people in their homes, with thousands still missing. Sadly, the first signs of the catastrophe were detected at 10 days ago by a satellite orbiting 500 mi above the tranquil hills around the Rhine River. The forecast, which were incredibly accurate, indicated the Rhineland was about to be hit by extreme flooding particularly along the Erft and Ahr rivers.
An alert system raise the alarm on July 10th, 4 days before the first floods with warnings that went out to the German and Belgian governments about the high risk of flooding in the Rhine and Meuse basin. Yet despite the warnings which predicted, almost precisely, which districts would be impacted when the rains came, the flood caught many of its victims unaware. Instead of taking action, the overwhelming majority of people in the path of the floods carried on with their everyday lives, oblivious to the danger as the rivers began to rise.
The federal office for citizen protection and disaster assistance only issued alerts to the small fraction of the public who had downloaded its apps. Most people however were taken by surprise. Unlike the United States, which has siren systems and whose television stations interrupt broadcast routinely for weather alerts, Germany’s alarm system is lacking. Last September they held a national warning day where people across the country were supposed to be hit with sirens and alert messages in a simulated national disaster. It was a debacle virtually none of the technology worked.
This is a case study for why every nation and every city needs disaster preparedness and a warning system. Climate change is real, it’s here now and we need to address its root causes. Government has a role to play in this and in disaster preparation.
6Flooding has been happening in Houston for years yet we still don have up to date flood maps. Congress can’t even pass a spending or voting bill – climate is way down the list.
7I’m a serious ‘weather nut’, with a couple of weather stations and meteorology courses going back to ~1964.
I’m fairly certain that the recent TS/Hurricane Elsa, its’ remnants, are a strong contributing factor in the Northern European flooding that has been devastating them recently.
Elsa traveled right up the North American East Coast, exiting the area around the 10/11th of July. and followed the Gulf Stream past the Maritimes, Iceland, GB and onward putting the remnants into Europe right when all those recent news clip rotating weather systems graphics put it.
I’ve been trying to work in some more detailed research, but the WX Heavies haven’t published much yet [NOAA, MET, DW, etc].
Of course ‘climate change global warming’ are a major root cause of all these recent decade[s] of weird dangerous weather disasters all over [you don’t even want to know how bad the Arctic/Antarctic are doing, Greenland melting, etc.]
