But Then You Have to Raise Money for Ammo and Lawyers at the Lincoln Day Dinner
Thank you, Arkansas Republicans, for making Louie Gohmert look sane.
The Benton County Republican Party Newsletter (who knew they could read?) says —
“We need to let those who will come in the future to represent us [know] that we are serious. The 2nd amendment means nothing unless those in power believe you would have no problem simply walking up and shooting them if they got too far out of line and stopped responding as representatives.”
No, seriously.
But at least he did say, “I don’t feel the same way about the Democrats as bullet backstops as I do about the Republicans who joined them.” Phew, that makes a lot of Democrats feel better.
They also say in that same newsletter …
I am very excited to announce confirmation of Governor Nikki R. Haley from South Carolina will be our guest speaker at our Lincoln Day Dinner Event on Monday, May 13, 2013.
Gee, I hope Nikki doesn’t hack them off, but somebody ought to warn hr just the same.
And by “representatives” he of course means those representing his own personal wants, likes, desires and prejudices 100%. Otherwise what’s the point of having a representative?
1LynnN, it’s been so long since anyone I’m eligible to vote for has actually represented me that I really don’t know what the point is…
2Sounds like they’ve been reading “A Planet for Texans” by H. Beam Piper. One of the lines from the book is this gem:
“”Apparently in New Texas, killing a politician was not ‘malum in se’ and was _malum prohibitorum_ only to the extent that what the politician got was in excess of what he deserved.”
3The 2nd Amendment says you can shoot people who don’t agree with you? JJ, when you asked “who knew they can read?” apparently the answer is, some of them can’t.
4The American Taliban is alive and well and threatening murder in Arkansas.
5Thank you, JJ, for just simply EXISTING! You give me, one of the few Democrats remaining in the Mississippi Legislature (House of Representatives), the daily recharge I need when the going gets so tough in this repuglican business brothel that I just want to throw up my hands and say to hell with it.
Today’s disclosures about Gohmert and the Ozard stupids have given me yet another boost to continue the fight, however futile it sometimes seems.
Keep up the good work!
6These are the people who cry about the danger of religious extremism in the Middle East. I think they better look closer to home.
7Ballots not bullets… Republicans are insane, failed citizens.
8Some people (NRA, etc.) Have elevated he 2nd Amendment over the Second Commandment. Good Christians or so they say….
9TalG, thanks for the H. Beam Piper “A Planet for Texans” reference – who knew that the Tea Party’s theory of government is based on a 1950’s short story.
10The people who would shoot you because they don’t like your politics are exactly the kind of people who should not be able to freely get their hands on guns. Why is it that Republicans are so bent on making it hard to vote – a Constitutionally guaranteed right – but are hell bent on seeing that everyone who wants a gun has one. Doesn’t it ever dawn on them that the NRA is the Joe McCarthy of this era – i.e., paranoid delusions of boogy men under every bed? These people justify their prejudices with rantings of Constitutionality, when they really have no idea what the Constitution really says. Sigh. Think I’ll introduce my head to the wall again – as they meet up with each other so often.
11If you can stand it, there is video of Louie

One more thing, hang in there Bob, keep fighting the good fight. I always find at times like this that it helps to remember what my Grandpa used to say, “They can’t kick you in pants, if your not out in front.” You are out in front and you do make a difference even if sometimes it feels like you are just slowing them down!
By the way, here is a link to The honorable Representative over at one of my other favorite web sites Project Vote Smart!

“no problem simply walking up and shooting them if they got too far out of line and stopped responding as representatives.”
Well, since all the writer’s beloved Republicans just killed a bill that had the support of 90% of the American people, including over 70% of NRA members, I guess they ought to be shot. Then maybe we could get some sensible gun control passed in Congress.
(I know 4 GOP senators voted with their brains, but those aren’t the writer’s beloved Republicans.)
14Sounds like the Republican version of the shootout at the OK corral. I say go for it guys. And Bob Evans, keep the faith sir.
15These guys are giving Anarchists a bad name.
16First of all, somebody please explain to me the Republican Lincoln Day Dinner Thing. Lincoln freed the slaves. What is it that Republicans find that they have in common with Lincoln?
Isn’t that an oxymoron?
Somebody on another thread having to do with Arkansas Republicans posted about an “Ozark Stupid Line.”
Seems that there is. For Sure.
17Pull up the Republican newsletter via the link… page 2 of their little newsletter, the second story down on the page. Title is “Scathing”…. OMG…. That scared the bejesus out of me. Unbelievable.
18Dear Bob: you’re a brave man to just show up in the MS lege. As a “W girl” (you’ll know what that means) I cringe every time one of those political hacks in MS opens his mouth–you know the one from Yazoo City who didn’t recall that segregation was so bad. I recently responded to a conservative relative there who complained that I was the only liberal family member saying that I became a liberal when I realized Jesus was a liberal. The resulting fireworks over MS and in my family was nothing compared to what happened on facebook. Keep the faith Bob, the color of MS is changing–my sister is there now! She’s that little blue dot in Hattiesburg.
19Word is the Benton County GOPS have pulled the newsletter. Damn!
20Thank you Deb, Marge & Carlo! To “coin a phrase”, I’ll be there as a Democrat ’til the cows come home. Even if I can only be a speed bump.
And Marge, I DO know what a “W” girl is. My wife is one. Lot of pulchritude has come from there.
Y’all made this little ole Mississippi Democratic legislator’s day!
21At this moment, the Benton County GOP home page shows an April 22 letter from the county chairman rejecting the violence theme expressed in the newsletter and pledging to exercise greater oversight in the future. It’s worth reading. If he doesn’t actually apologize, at least he tries to make amends and set things right.

How is it that we have come to this? We are on the way to an entire political party surrendering a noble American tradition of peaceful political discourse to the violent ravings of psychopaths? Of all the shameful things done in recent years in the name of the Republican Party, this is perhaps the worst. What’s next? Dropping pressure cooker bombs into the middle of Democratic Party gatherings? It may sound very far-fetched, but Democrats who gather together would be prudent to be more sensitive to possible threats in their immediate surroundings. Terrorist, is thy name Republican?
