Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
Hope you are creating great family moments during your Thanksgiving holiday and having a good & well deserved rest.
Marge Wood, I have another bumper sticker for Democrats. We are the party of “Peace and Prosperity.”
1Darn, I will have to shut up. My thoughts on the GOP representative who spoke out about Planned Parenthood would offend mama no matter what day it would be.
2Linda Phipps, you can do this. We can do this and stay on the safe side of Mama. Like spraying Holy Water on the devil, bury the snacilbupeR in facts.
Let’s go after Snarly Failurina for her lies and all the snacilbupeR for their insanity. Trust in Cecile Richards and PP for our facts. http://www.getnetworth.com/tag/planned-parenthood-federation-of-america-mission-statement/
Another great source is NARAL Pro-Choice America. http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/
Maybe the Forced Birther morons would like to take on the US military. Thought my parents had done a decent job of giving me a sex education. But there’s nothing like the military for explaining STDs. My parents were good, but the USAF made me a better man, husband and father.
As Micr would say, im<ho, but facts will bury bs. We only need to become louder and keep our message clear. Never forget that we are the good guys and gals.
3As some one who has been asking for a regular open thread once a week, I should have been more involved this weekend.
But
after recuperating from Thanksgiving — which has become pretty much the only Holiday I celebrate (and between the Mets and Hillary’s near certain victory, I really had something this year) —
the usual family static that comes between my wife and myself once a week or so (thank heaven for cats, the world’s greatest eacemakers, and ours are particularly good at showing us how dumb we are both being),
and finally a day long argument on RELIGION DISPATCHES (usually a pretty liberal and reasonable site, that believers and atheists like myself can both enjoy( over porn, which I was defending — this was the Catholic specialist, so I even had to defend masturbation, not against the article writer but against some commenters,
I just didn’t get the chance. (And after the Planned Parenthood shooting I was pretty speechless, keeping my own instincts in check. Mamma might have let me get away with a couple of words above, but if she came near my mind after the shooting, she would have coated me in soap and made me lick myself out of it.)
Still one thing I’ve hoped we might do is work on the blog list. The ones there are good, and I particularly want to thank JJ for introducing me to Jobsanger, which has become a daily read, But I am sure we all have a bunch of small, less visited blogs like it that deserve to be better known. As well as better known ones like RD that still would be worth checking out.
I won’t post specific links, which might get Cousin Carl doin’ his spamin’ slamin’ thing. just the state, the name, and any special reasons for the individual blog.
First has to be TN’s SOUTHERN BEALE, a long time favorite that has become the go-to site for news of gun fails, shooting accidents, and other gun nut stupidity.
Somebody HAS to collect her ‘2nd Amendment Hero’ series and make it into a booklet, You lose the impact if you don’t see it all gathered together in one place, and see how shootings, dropped gun firings, kids discovering new toys that don’t just go ‘BANG!” and the ‘responsible gun owners’ that have enough guns that when they are burglarized the whole community could get one a piece — and these things are not rarities but are in the news almost every day.
More suggestions in a new comment, and maybe my grammar will return to her family, and I can change Manglish to English by that time
4Linda Phipps: What did you expect? Miss Carly just towed the snacilpubeR line… read right from the script. She was talking to the base because in reality that’s all they have left. Do you believe for a minute that any moderates are buying this crap? And of course the left isn’t listening.
This is what desperation looks like as seen through the lens of mendacity. This is win at all costs… truth and fairness be damned. This is ego run rampant. This is the dark side. This is “I’m right and no one can tell me different.” This is the history of every megalomaniac… ever. This is Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin… and a host of others. This is hate… and ignorance… and fear. This is weakness masked as power. This is not America.
5I hope everyone had a delicious Thanksgiving.
The Dem talking points we all enjoy apparently the Rs were oblivious. Just one more thing on the long list. Republicans were actually complaining/whining about the fact that there are talking points in the first place: http://www.salon.com/2015/11/26/the_conservative_freakout_over_thanksgiving_debates_heres_why_the_right_is_melting_down_this_time/.
6Whenever I am tempted to state (or yell) something I might not be able to back up, I try to remember the GOP horrible example, which they’ve been leaning on since at least 1980: “Reality is whatever I say it is, and I’ll scream down and suppress anybody who tries to present the facts.” Examples too numerous to list but include climate change, birth control, guns, Bible quotations, and almost anything else they’ve ever mentioned.
I’ll also try to remember that JJ’s isn’t The Guardian and I’ll keep it clean. (Someone who complained about too much swearing on The Guardian’s comment pages was balanced out by someone who complained that there wasn’t enough.)
7It’s not been a good week for police officers responding to calls. In addition to the Colorado Springs “incident”, a Pennsylvania State police officer was killed while responding to a domestic disturbance in Westmoreland County last night. Thanks NRA.
8Thanksgiving here in Pittsburgh was like a Spring Day, with sunny skies and 65 degrees. I saw more people out walking on that day than any day I can remember. I met neighbors I didn’t know I had and since I am out walking my dog twice a day, every day, I was quite surprised.
9Of course, now we’re in the thirties and the streets are once again deserted, except for the odd, bundled-up dog walker in a hurry to get things done and get home.
I guess, knowing that the beautiful day was probably the last one for months, people were spurred to treasure and share it with others. We take these things for granted until we are threatened with loss.
If only we could help people to see what will happen if immediate steps aren’t taken to preserve this beautiful earth and its inhabitants, if only for our children’s sake. Even if the Paris Summit succeeds, President Obama will face the R-Klan in order to finance the much needed improvements. Their ignorance and greed will not allow him to succeed. Bernie is right about needing a revolution.
our earth’s beauty and
Sorry, that last phrase should be deleted.
10PKM, you ordering a batch of those bumper stickers? I’ll buy one or two if you do. If you sell at cost plus shipping, I’ll buy a handful.
11Marge
Don’t get to visit The Salon as often as I would like but when I do, I’m oh SO thankful there is a place where I can get a dose of sanity, humor and a reminder that I am not alone with my proud progressive and liberal mindset! Hope each and everyone of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and here’s to a safe Peaceful Holiday season!
12Marge Wood, generally we don’t use a commercial printing service. Our home/office printer handles bumper stickers.
However, if Mrs. B and/or Glen Maxey approve, we’d be happy to send some on down to Texas. We were thinking white background, large red “Peace and Prosperity,” with a blue line beneath: vote Democratic.
The reason I’m not printing as I type is a flicker of trademark concern. Maybe someone here can set me straight. Did the Sanders campaign already TM “Peace and Prosperity”?
“Thought” that one up on my own the other day, but it doesn’t ‘feel’ original.
If we can clear the TM hurdle, we’d be happy to provide at no cost. Would Texas prefer the blue line read: “Turn Texas Blue, Vote Democratic” ?
13“Peace and Prosperity” is a slogan for the Ron Paul group!
Let’s try something else! I agree with “Turn Texas Blue, Vote Democratic”
14WA Skeptic, thank you, thank you, thank you for pulling my bacon out of the fire on this one. Unbelievable that it was the Ron Paul cabal using that slogan. It really is more suitable for Senator Sanders and other Democrats. The ‘originality’ didn’t feel right in my gut, so you cannot believe how happy I am that I asked and that you answered.
