Breaking News: Rat Leaves Ship

January 29, 2018 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Another Republican House member jumps ship.

Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.), the chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, announced Monday that he will not seek reelection in an increasingly competitive district.

This makes him the 9th Republican committee chairman to announce retirement in the 115th Congress.  Let’s go for 10!

The Democratic candidate will more than likely be Mikie Sherrill—a former federal prosecutor and Navy veteran—was identified by the DCCC as part of the “Red to Blue” program, “an initiative by the campaign committee to flip Republican districts nationwide.”  That means they will spend money on this race.

I will say one thing, if Republicans keep dropping out, they sure are making it hard for Russia to win this election.

  1. OK, time for my usual spiel.

Help everyone you can to register and vote. This may mean a small gift (masquerading as a loan if it will save face) of cash, or access to your high-speed internet to help track down documents. It may mean driving someone to the DMV to get photo ID, or driving her/him to the polls.

Get creative. Perhaps you know someone with a big van or mini-bus, and you can organize a trip from and to a local nursing home to the polls (snacks would make it a festive occasion). WE have the numbers, almost everywhere. We MUST out-vote them in every district where that’s possible. V-O-T-E.

  2. “will not seek reelection in an increasingly competitive district.”

In other words, if I can’t skate in easy with all the big donations, manipulations, and cheating, if I have to actually *compete for votes*, that’s hard and I’m outa here.

I’ve got the popcorn if you snacilbupeR have your surrender shoes on.

Guess even a bare chested Putin can’t get rats elected.

  5. That’s my critter who quit. And good riddance!

Instead of calling his office weekly, writing emails, faxing, I can work on special elections until the June primary for NJ11, then work on turning NJ11 indigo, not just blue.

We’re a sorry gerrymandered mess, once represented by Bill Pascrell. But blue is blue, and deep blue is better than merely blue.

  6. Frelinghuysen? Wow! He’s been around for a long time! Who’d a thunk it! His ancestors had a very big reputation inasmuch as the not only funded schools but founded them as well. Then one of them just had to go into politics! Cheese whiz!

  7. The Frelinghuysen political dynasty goes all the way back to the Declaration of Independence.

Courtesy of Wikipedia, one of his ancestors (many of whom have served in the US Government):

“Frederick Frelinghuysen (April 13, 1753 – April 13, 1804) was an American lawyer, soldier, and senator from New Jersey. A graduate of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), Frederick went on to become an officer during the American Revolutionary War. In addition, he served as a delegate to the Continental Congress. He was a United States Senator from New Jersey from 1793 until 1796, and served as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey in 1801.”

  8. To James: Yup. And Rodney’s father, Peter, Sr, stood up to Joe McCarthy. But Rodney turned tail and courted the right-wing nut jobs. His vote on the SALT bill (we are so very overtaxed in NJ11) and the healthcare bill put the final nails in his representative coffin. He has refused to hold a town hall since his reelection in 2016. He was doomed and has only himself to blame. He knew his newly shaped district was much bluer than the previous one.
