Bloomberg 2020?

November 07, 2019 By: El Jefe Category: Uncategorized

Michael Bloomberg has dispatched staff to file for the Democratic 2020 primary in Alabama.  The deadline is Friday, and it looks like he’s going to keep his options open.  If he jumps in, he’ll turn the field on its head.  He’s been quoted as saying Trump must be beaten in 2020, and him making this move says that he’s not happy with the present field on the Dem side.

IF he jumps in, he’ll Hoover up the business community and mainstream Dems.  The party faithful will hate it,  but you have to admit that he (along with maybe Bill Gates) is the only American who can go toe toe financially.  He’s also actually experienced in running government, unlike His Orangeness.

This little development could make 2020 interesting again.

  1. Remember the only loyalty the rich and powerful have is to the rich and powerful.
    bloomberg would be a disaster.
Would he try to do to the US Constitition what he did to NYC law that stated he could only have 2 terms until he bought enough council members to change the law so he could get 3 terms.
    Bloombergs loyalties are to:
    1) Money
    2: Power
    3) Others with money and power
    4) His PR image
and some where in the back 40 would be his loyalty to humanity and the country. And even then that would be open to negoitations.
Only good thing is he would knock biden, klobacher, bullock and other thuglican lites out of the race.

    1
  2. Nah. This is a vanity project by somebody who was a Democrat, a Republican, and Independent and, once again, a Democrat. I don’t care how much money he has, this won’t fly.

    2
  3. addedendum
Remember mikey was elected mayor of NYC as a thuglican and welcomed 2004 RNC convention in NYC while his semi trained goon squad was out beating and illegally, court ruling, detaining citizens on the street.
According to old turd blossom ( the twits nickname for rove) he raised an a–full of money for thuglicans and candinates that cycle.
So the D’s are expected to nominaite another lierman on national ticket to take a dive in the name of profits?

    3
  4. This thing ain’t goin nowhere.

    4
  5. Quoting myself, “The party faithful will hate it…” I rest my case.

  6. The base might revolt and like the dccc’s reaction to huge gains in 2016 by black balling anyone who worked for progressive challengers such as AOC the apperachek of the party may just decide that a billionaire is more important then the base.
Wouldn’t be the first time the d’s sold out the base.
Remember Cegalis primary in I’ll. When r@hm air dropped his personal minion to lose to thuglican incumbent rather then let a progressive win. Just one example of all to many sad episodes.
Wonder if the DSCC and/ or the DNC are applying same sanctions against Kennedy’s challenge to sitting D senator?

  7. It seems there are rumors that Eric Holder May jump in as well.

  8. Despite Front Seat to Last Four Decades of US Politics, Biden Repeats Claim That GOP ‘Epiphany’ Coming Soon

Would that be just before or after the Rapture?

    Edit: “Make it stop.

“With Donald Trump out of the way, you’re going to see a number of my Republican colleagues have an epiphany,” said Biden. “Mark my words. Mark my words.”

Biden’s comments came as part of a longer soliloquy on rival Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who Biden has been hammering since the senator suggested last week the former vice president was in the wrong party’s primary.

Blogger Atrios immediately pounced on Biden’s rosy view of the GOP

“Explain why they never had this epiphany when your best friend was president,” Atrios tweeted, referring to Republican behavior for the only eight years the U.S. has thus far had a black man in the White House. “Come on.”

It’s not the first time Biden has made such comments. On May 14, Biden told reporters that once Trump was out of office, “You will see an epiphany occur among many of my Republican friends.”

Oh look, a poll – not an election, just a poll, like the morning fog.
New Monmouth National poll from the comments section of the link.

    ALL VOTERS
Biden 23% (-2) Joe: “Nothing will fundamentally change.”

    Warren 23% (-5)
    Sanders 20% (+5)

A plutocracy is what we need to leave in the dust. And if you think black women will vote for him, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale!

    9
  10. What K said.
And if the party faithful hate him, who do you imagine will vote for him? Republicans?

    10
  11. joel hanes says:

Bloomberg’s candidacy has the same goal as Steyer’s: to prevent a Warren or Sanders victory, even if that means that Trump wins.

Either of them could have done the nation some real good by funding Democratic GOTV in Texas, or Georgia. Or re-founding an equivalent to ACORN. Or contributing millions to down-ballot Dems. Or contributing a couple hundred thou to each of the state Democratic party organizations.

But they don’t intend to actually help the nation: they intend to stroke their own egos, and to ensure that their heirs and assigns remain billionaires into the indefinite future.

    11
  12. Jefe: who, exactly are “the party faithful”? And who are they supporting?

    12
  13. Warren throws shade at Bloomberg on Twitter:

Welcome to the race, @MikeBloomberg! If you’re looking for policy plans that will make a huge difference for working people and which are very popular, start here: https://t.co/6UMSAf90NT

  14. charles phillips says:

F@#K Michael-come-lately! Haven’t we all had enough of “not a democrat” running as Democrats? I for sure have. Mikey, dude, pick a damn party and stick to it! You’re not Winston Churchill!

Sorry for the angry tone and wordage, Mz Juanita, I just couldn’t help myself.

    14
  15. @ multiple folks – My, my. Such vitriol. You can put Bloomberg in the billionaire box, but he’s not a Trump. He gives hundreds of millions to causes like solving gun violence, and social justice. He knows Trump is a cancer, but he also understands arithmetic that apparently many Dem faithful don’t. Warren can talk about her “plan for that” all she wants, but if she can’t win in NC, Wisconsin, PA, Michigan, or Florida, her plans are going to go nowhere. Bloomberg will take the center from both sides. If Bloomberg is actually in, it will be an interesting primary season. Focus here, folks. The reality here is that the Dem candidate must WIN. Plans and policy are secondary. We’re in Maslow’s territory now – this is the time for keeping a roof over our heads and family fed, not self actualizing.

    15
  16. J. Elsome says:

Sorry El Jefe, but Bloomberg is a tool of the 0.1% and nothing will change that, ever.

“But he’s not a Trump”? That’s _NO_ reason to vote for him.

If the (D) want to lose my 50-year, life-long vote for president, nominate anyone from the Clinton/Wall Street/Neocon wing and I’ll vote down ballot but f!ck the presidential vote. I’m past voting for the “lesser” evil.

    16
  17. RepubAnon says:

Bloomberg is yet another “Republican Lite” candidate. Might have been a good choice in 2016, doesn’t stand a chance in 2020.

I’ll vote for any Democrat over Trump, but a billionaire vs.billionaire race isn’t going to solve our country’s woes.

    17
  18. What Joel said. ditto

Can the Democratic party prevent people who are not democrats from filing?

I had a hard time with the Bernie supporters who did damage to Hillary. Was told by someone who was all over the convention floor that Bernie didn’t even have floor leaders. His delegates would tell anybody who’d listen to them abut the crooked democratic party. We don’t need anymore of this shit.

    18
  19. @ multiple – Yeah, well, I’m about winning. Warren, Sanders, and/or Buttigieg won’t. It’s arithmetic.

    19
  20. charles phillips says:

Too soon to count votes, Jefe, leave the math in your locker and fight for the best candidate, not the easiest one.

    20
  21. @charles – And THAT is why Dems lose the big races most of the time. It’s all about math. The “best candidate” is the one that has the highest probability of beating Trump, not the one with a big file cabinet.

    21
  22. charles phillips says:

And Jefe, THAT is why our party doesn’t generate any enthusiasm for decent people at the national level; counting votes a WHOLE DAMN YEAR before election day.

    I’m damned surprised Obama won…twice!

  23. Buttermilk Sky says:

A very good explanation of why this won’t happen:

    https://nomoremister.blogspot.com/2019/11/buying-democratic-nomination-its-not.html

And anyway, Kanye West is running in 2024, by which time America will be Great Again and he will easily win.

This ends the Presidential Fantasy portion of our program.

  24. thatotherjean says:

I hope BarbinDC is right. We don’t need another billionaire, even if this one’s real. We’ve already got Tom Steyer, although he’s not going anywhere, either. Both of them are in it for whatever motivates billionaires to run. Public attention? Boredom? It doesn’t seem to be because they have great, practical ideas about what’s wrong with the country and how to fix it. I’d rather vote for someone who does.
