Biden Insults Neanderthals

March 04, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Abbott, Coronavirus

Yesterday, Biden responded to Greg Abbott’s and Mississippi governor Tate Reeves’ announcements lifting all state restrictions that protect their citizens from Coronavirus infections.  In his response, Biden said,

“We are on the cusp of being able to fundamentally change the nature of this disease because of the way in which we’re able to get vaccines in people’s arms. … The last thing, the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking — that, ‘In the meantime, everything’s fine. Take off your mask. Forget it.’ It still matters.”

How dare Biden denigrate the memory of neanderthals so insensitively.  Their thinking was much more developed than today’s rightwing knuckle draggers.  He should be more careful with his rhetoric.

    Indeed:

“People who survive a bout of Covid-19 with mild symptoms or even no symptoms may be able to thank their Neanderthal ancestors, a new study suggests.

Researchers found a genetic mutation that reduces the risk of severe Covid-19 infection by about 22%. It was found in all the samples they took of Neanderthal DNA, and in about 30% of samples from people of European and Asian origin.
The genetic region involved affects the body’s immune response to RNA viruses such as the coronavirus…”.

  2. I can think of several other names that fit as well.

The correct analogy would be closer to the fictional Morlocks domination over the Eloi.

    No masks mean no masks!

  4. My 1st coarse in diversity was “you are what you were when…” So with Biden saying that shows me his education has not increased to modern levels and he is what he was in high school, when it was assumed by many that Neanderthals where not too bright!

El Jefe, rofl, when President Biden becomes “fighting Joe” at least he’s on the correct side an issue. He may have misused and abused Neanderthal, but wow an actual President who uses multisyllabic words and complete sentences.

PBJ-46 wasn’t our first choice, nor the second or third to be honest. But he does have a way of growing on you like a favorite uncle, gaffes and all. Albeit if he wants to be a real crowd pleaser steam rolling over Moscow Mitch and the QOP in the Senate could move a whole lotta love in PJB’s direction.

Wouldn’t a better analogy be to “Bread and circuses”? The Wikipedia article paints a depressing picture of Ancient Rome and it’s populace that fits GOPs and their supporters:

  7. At least Neanderthals could see the handwriting on the wall. They painted it there. Not like our QOP, heads under the pillow. Hiding from imaginary monsters. Needing an useless wall to feel safe behind.

Not really–the Romans got to eat. The Republicans seem not to care if Americans starve.

    Yes!
Had Trump tried using the descriptor Neanderthal, he would have subbed ‘cave man’ or more likely ‘Fred Flintstone.’

  10. Bob Boland says:

Oh, come on. Give the guy a break. The term “Neanderthal” at least would be one most of the QOP would have at least a passing awareness of. The more accurate terms, “Homo Erectus” or “Homo Heidelbergensis” would have left the QOP knuckle draggers scratching their heads.

  11. Lunargent says:

No, the use of Homo Erectus would have set the entire Right Wing Media ablaze, with everyone accusing Biden of promoting gay orgies. Worse yet, not even sarcastically.

Since I’m having trouble getting an appointment for the vaccine, I’m comforted by the reports on the mutation, because I’m pretty sure I’ve got a chunk of Neanderthal heritage. Short, thick limbs and a big head, though happily I lack the prefrontal ridge. Finally, an advantage to not being tall and willowy!

Joe meant well. Could have used a lot of terms to describe abbott and others that are acting like they never heard of science. Stupid would be one.
They have a death wish for their constituents, even if those constituents can’t see it. Better triple mask for those of you that are not one of those science deniers because the air is going to be dangerous to breath.

  13. Steve from Beaverton says:

As expected, abbott would, like a schoolyard kid, call Biden a Neanderthal back. He’s blaming Biden and calling him a Neanderthal for the covid infection spiking because he’s sent migrants with it into texas. And I guess if that’s true, his logic of opening up Texas 100% is he’ll show Biden. Stupid is as stupid does, and as I mentioned above, abbott is stupid. Good luck texas.

    Jane & PKM @5 …

When you referred to PBJ-46, for some reason my mind inserted an ampersand, making it PB&J-46 — which no doubt is a special of the house at some trendy Peanut Butter cafe.
