Because That’s How Germs Work

March 02, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

You’ll be reassured to know that Trump says that political rallies are not only safe, they are very safe.

“Well this was set up a long time ago, and others are You could ask that to the Democrats… They’re all having rallies, that’s what they’re doing, they’re campaigning.”

He added: “I think it’s very safe.”

Trump will hold a campaign rally in North Carolina tonight.

As you well know, it’s because if you set things up a long time ago, and then it burns down, it’ll still be there for you to use because you set it up a long time ago. That’s how time works.  Now if they had set this up last night, they’d all die because there’s a virus that got here since then. That’s how germs work.

I told you he was going to get us all killed.

Updated list of US states with coronavirus:

    Washington
    Oregon
    California
    Arizona
    Wisconsin
    Illinois
    Michigan
    New York
    Florida
    Rhode Island

Are you tired of all the winning yet?

Germs can think and speak? Nevermind. You were quoting Donnie* and it is evident that he* cannot or will not think.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s his base who are most vulnerable to COVID-19.

Sooner or later, and he’s going to show up with his Darth Bone Spurs helmet to courageously face the Covid Menace in front of his Droid armies. Perhaps?

slipstream @1, Not sure about your list, is it just locally contracted cases?
Texas has about 15 quarantined positives in hospital, 100+ neutral quarantined from the cruise ship at JBSA-Lackland, in San Antonio [they will all be out of quarantine soon].
San Antonio may now have the coronavirus ‘in the wild’.
One positive, treated, quarantined lady was tested clear twice, then released in San Antonio to go home. She then stayed at an airport motel, shopped at a big mall, and was later found positive for covid-19 again [and presumably used taxis, restaurants]. She was put back in quarantine.
It has the local people and politicians furious at the feds [YKW].
A frantic mitigation scheme is being worked out. They may attempt a Chinese-style cleaning/disinfection of the whole mall and hotel.

Could be the start of something big, or hopefully worked out with minimal problems or new cases.

Every time I hear Trump say anything about Corona [or any other health matter] he puts me in mind of Frank Burns on MASH: “Nothing walks faster than a germ, mister.”

Y’all locals may recall how early on, when the feds were steamrolling the military base quarantine scheme at Lackland, we were all emphatically reassured that ‘nothing could go wrong’…

Yes, well, believing that science is not propaganda and the virus is not a hoax would certainly help, I’m sure.

  9. slipstream says:

Sandridge: correct, just locally contracted cases, not evacuees. I am using the list from CDC. Mighta shoulda attached their footnote:

    * This map represents cases detected and tested in the United States through U.S. public health surveillance systems since January 21, 2020. It does not include people who returned to the U.S. via State Department-chartered flights.

    See the website:

    9
  10. Malarkey@ 3:
Au contraire. That whole gargling-with-bleach mitigation plan has got ’em protected.
Sadly, considering where these folks get their reality, that’s only partially ironic.

  11. twocrows says:

    slipstream and Sandridge:
seeing as how we’ve got a few hundred test kits in the US and a population of 327,167,000 and growing (at the moment) we’re set up as a self-reporting system.

iow, the only thing we can be certain of is that those numbers are low.

No need to worry when Trump’s Laying On of the Argle-Bargle will heal them all.

Now y’all don’t get all in a tizzy over COVID-19. Didn’t you know that Mike Pence is in charge? And here he is, leaping into action:

There, now don’t you feel foolish about worrying?

[Although I suspect the guy casually leaning on the fireplace is wondering who farted.]

    15
  16. Old Fart says:

Sorry to remind you (all). But unfortunately, some infected & shedding virus carriers can be asymptomatic. So get used to elbow bumps and washing with soap for 1 round of “Happy Birthday”. This is going to be a difficult period ahead of us, what with the fear of death and losing everything.

    And then there’s the Covid-19 virus…

    16
  17. Buttermilk Sky says:

Trump is sure he would have charged into that Kirkland, Washington, nursing home and punched the virus in the nose. Just like a school shooter.

    Anything about viruses in Leviticus?
No? Then we’re good to go.

  19. Sandridge says:

Whelp, there goes the North Star Mall. Announced a complete ~24 hour closure while they do another cleaning op [Chinese-style this time].
I suspect that their foot traffic and sales had dwindled to about -zero- by Monday and Tuesday morning.
The woman who had been released from quarantine spent about -two hours- at the mall Saturday evening, she was re-quarantined at 2AM Sunday.
A mighty expensive shopping trip for sure.

Nirenberg, the Mayor of San Antonio, has locked the ~122 quarantined people at JBSA-Lackland in, even though they were to leave quarantine today. They will not be allowed -into- San Antonio to transit home. No others will be allowed to enter into quarantine either {they must land via military transport at Kelly Field, but travel to adjacent Lackland– no go per Nirenberg].

    What a f’ed up mess.

  20. I normally live in Zhuhai, China a small city of 1.5 million that has had 100 case of the novel coronavirus. Though I’ve been out for 6 weeks, the people I work with and many friends are still there. I don’t think many Americans are aware of the steps China took to contain this virus. While Wuhan is still completely locked down, an additional 700 million people have been under restrictions since the beginning of February that include:
Only residents allowed into apartment complexes, no visitors.
Food delivery only, no dine-in restaurants. Some are being allowed to open today, but restricted to 50% seating capacity.
    Movies closed.
Schools closed. Starting on-line classes, but no date to re-open.
Temperature check when you leave your apartment and when you return, and when you enter a store.
You can’t go outside without a mask. Monitored by drone.
Before factories could open, they had to provide the full travel history of each employee. Anyone who had left the province had to stay at home for 14 days before returning to work.
At work, everyone wears a mask.
Businesses are supposed to continue to pay employees, even if they are not open. I’m not sure if this applies to small businesses, but all big companies are required to.

Some of what China has done may be overkill, but it is impossible to limit the spread of the virus without drastically limiting person to person contact. I’m not relating this to spread panic, just awareness. If everyone would do a few simple things, we could slow the spread of the virus enough so the health care system is never overloaded.
    Wash your hands often.
Try not to touch your face.
    Avoid big crowds.
Be prepared to stay home for 2-4 weeks.
As long as the hospitals are not overloaded, the mortality rate from the virus will be fairly low, probably about 1%. OTOH, if everyone gets sick at once and the hospitals run out of beds, more people will die. That’s what happened in Wuhan, where the mortality rate has been much higher than the rest of China.

    Stay safe folks.

It seems the virus has been spreading in China since last November. The latest estimate is that it has been here in the US for up to 6 weeks, but you can bet it’s been much longer.
Viruses usually spread through schools like wildfire and the kids
take it home to share. Colds and flu at this time masked the
diagnosis, so all the coughing and sneezing could very well
have been the C virus, spreading everywhere during holiday travel in December. Testing and confirmation may be like chasing the horse after it has left the barn. Trump is responsible for our lack of preparedness, but is in the most
    vulnerable age range.

    21
  22. Joe Hill says:

Trump is addicted to the rush he gets from his rallies. He does not care one bit if any of his supporters sicken or die from them.
If this goes as I fear it will, a significant percentage o infected persons will be from his damned ‘base’.

    22
  23. maryelle says:

Take heart, if his base contracts the C virus in significant numbers, Donnie may be patient zero in DC.
