Asking For Help Again. It’s Free!

August 05, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The Texas State Historical Association is sponsoring a virtual Race Across Texas.  It’s an online contest on Texas trivia.  There are weekly prizes.

Couple this with Glen Maxey and I raising money for the ballot by mail application program for Texas Democrats that you, yes you!, help get done every election year with your generous donations.

Glen wants to win this contest real bad because he fancies himself some kind of expert on Texas Trivia and would like a title to prove it.  The better part of Glen’s ego-quest is that we will auction-off every prize he wins and put that money directly into the ballot by mail program.

Here’s how you can help.  Glen gets 25 points for every person he can get to join the contest.  It’s free and you can unsubscribe after the contest is over.  You do NOT have to join the Texas State Historical Association for Glen to get the points, you only have to sign-up for the contest.

Plus, then Glen gets extra points every time you answer one of the trivia questions correctly.  (I’ll help with hints if you need them.)

Through Facebook, he’s already gotten 85 people to sign up.  I promised him at least 15 more.  Don’t make me go stand under a street light in a floozy dress to get more people to join.

Just click right here.

Be sure to click the small box beside the “Send These Credentials Via Email” before you click the big green START THE RACE bar.

Click Start the Race to get your email.

It’s a good way to RESIST without having to get out of your pajamas.

Thank you, guys.

Be social and share!

  1. Sam in St Paul says:

    I’m in.

    1
  2. Larry from Colorado says:

I think I signed up, but did not yet receive an email

    2
  3. Like Larry, I think I signed up but not certain. At least I filled in all the blanks.

    4
  4. Marc Davis says:

Signed up, will need help . . . only been in Texas since Dec 2015.

    5
  5. Austinhatlady says:

I also signed up, but couldn’t find a “done” button. Also have not received an email but perhaps that occurs only on work days. In any case, go Glen Maxey!

    6
  6. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

I’ll ask Glen if he got a notice. Be sure you check the small box next to Send these credentials via email, right above the green START THE RACE!

  7. Lunargent says:

Waall, the only time I was ever in Texas was in 1972. Our university choral group’s chartered plane landed at DFW to pick up another group on our way to Europe. And we never deplaned, so technically I’ve never set foot there.

But what the hey – I’m in!

  8. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

IMPORTANT: if you didn’t get an email back, you’re not registered. Go look at the graphic I just put on the front page. You should get an email within minutes of signing up.

    9
  9. Thanks, Team! We’re at 112 team members. As much as I can understand from the rules, you’re going to get an email each day with a trivia question. If you answer it correctly, I’ll get 25 points. No clue if we ALL get the same questions, or if they’ll be random. I THINK they will be multiple choice. Use their website (Texas State Historical Association) or the google machine before you answer. Or ask Juanita Jean! Or me. We aren’t below feeding answers (the rules don’t prohibit). So it’s like an open book test.

Just so you know: The first provisional President of Texas was David G Burnet. The first President was Sam Houston, then Mirabeau Lamar, then Sam Houston again, and then Anson Jones.

Lamar created the guaranteed public education system for the chillens of Texas. Republicans have been destroying it ever since.

  10. If I “complete my profile for another 200 points,” is that just me giving away more of my dwindling privacy, or does Glen get any of those points? They already snagged my avatar photo without asking.

    11
  11. Ok, call me paranoid (or stupid) but why does it want my password to sign up? Is it asking for my email password or does it want me to create a password for this contest? I’d be glad to help but need to know about the password first. Good luck to Glen.

    12
  12. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

Merry, Make up a password. It is for this game only. To open your page, you will need your email address and your password you wrote when you signed up.

    13
  13. Chloe Bear says:

    I signed up!

    14
  14. I signed up but didn’t check Send these Credentials via E-mail.

Was I bad? What will they do to me?

    15
  15. Jane & PKM says:

Ms. JJ and Mr. Maxey we’re in and will definitely take you up on your kind offer of assistance. We trust the two of you way more than the google machine. However, if at any time the help we require exceeds the benefit of points we can toss your way, please exercise your option to “bench” us. 😀

    16
  16. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

Lynn, You have to do it again to get the email to set up the account.

    17
  17. I tried to do it again, and when I started over, I got the message that the email was already being used (obviously from my original try) and I should use a different one. There is no different one.

    Lynne…with an “e”.

    18
  18. Jane & PKM says:

AK Lynne, always good to have a “back-up” account. Yahoo will allow you to create as many accounts as you desire. For free. https://www.yahoo.com/

    19
  19. Marcia in CO says:

Never been to Texas, so I wouldn’t be able answer any of the questions anyway … I just know there are a lot of moronic, hateful, heartless Repubs way down there!

Whoever is the loser of this contest has to do this:
“Don’t make me go stand under a street light in a floozy dress.” LOL Glen danced on a table once … LOL There will have to be pictures!!

    20
  20. I clicked “Send these credentials via email” and “Start the race,” which got me to the page about updating my profile, but I haven’t gotten an email and I don’t see any way to complete the process. I’m not giving them all my ID info and it doesn’t look like I have to unless I want the extra points. How do I move on from here? There’s no End or Done button. https://www.raceacrosstexas.com/profile/

    21
  21. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

Rhea, sit back and wait for your first Trivia question to arrive. Let’s see if you get one.

    22
  22. Thanks for signing up. I apologize for the technology issues. The sponsors are the Texas Historical Association NOT the Texas Technology Wizards. They can tell you how the crank telephone worked and explain telegrams and the Pony Express. Websites: Not big on them.

Anyway, I got over fifty new players today. Thank you to the Beauty Shop!

Now let’s do some Trivia next week.

    23
  23. I also signed up, checked the credentials box, but got no email.

    24
  24. slipstream says:

    ummmm . . . Texas?

Small state in the south, not many caribou. ‘Sabout all I know.

    26
  25. Some of the best politicians, and some of the worst. ‘Sabout all I know.

    27
  26. Yeah, I’m familiar with these empty promises. Glen said he would dance on a table naked, and I was looking forward to pics of Juanita Jean in a floozy dress, but it’s just a come-on.

Many, many years ago, my parents lived briefly in El Paso, so we visited there periodically. At the time, I told my mother it wasn’t really Texas, just Baja Oklahoma, and she cautioned me not to say that to the friends she’d made there.

I signed up hoping for the floozy-dress-thing, but I’m gonna need a lot of help here if Glen expects to win. Go Glen!

    28
  27. Marc Davis says:

For Rhea and anyone else concerned about privacy when going for the 200 extra points . . . the form doesn’t validate input very closely so I was able, for example, to put 512-XXX-XXXX as my phone number and so forth for street address.

    29
  28. Lunargent says:

    No email, but I’m resisters.
And I left lots of blank spaces on my profile, but still got the 200 points.
Is there a team page, or anything?

    30
  29. I am in. I did the race last year and had a lot of fun answering the daily questions. If you get stumped, go to the Handbook of Texas online at TSHA’s site. The answers are usually in there.

    31
  30. FWIW, I got my two hundred points. I wish to know nothing about Texas other than the condition of the Interstate through it.

    32
  31. Craig Waters says:

    Dear Miss Juanita,

I signed up, but the only thing I know about Texas history is that they keep changing countries and starting wars to keep their slaves.

    33
  32. Lunargent says:

Well, still no emails. But I clicked the link above, logged in, and got the first question and bonus question. 25 points each.
Not hard at all. There’s a link you can click that takes you to the relevant article. You don’t need any Texas knowledge if you possess basic reading comprehension skills, so we should all be fine.

I really hope Glen’s team is getting credit for this. Except for a pass-through page when I want to register, I haven’t seen any of that kind of info.

    34
  33. Wally Plahutnik says:

    I’m in. Go Glen!

    35
  34. Aggieland Liz says:

I went through your site, I clicked th box n I completed a profile for 200 pts. I used my “real” name and a more stable email though. Is that all it takes? I’m a waterlily avatar…?

    36
  35. Sean Harrington says:

    I’m in.
